Hi all! We have less than a week until contributor applications close on May 1st! Thank you so much to everyone who has applied so far! If you'd like to apply, please visit this post here

If you're still wondering if you should apply, check out the schedule for the creation period:

May 5-6th: Application Results Sent

MAY 13th: Acceptance Deadline and Pitches Open

MAY 17th: Pitches Closed

MAY 20th: Pitch Results

JUNE 17th: Check-In 1 (Sketches and outlines due)

JULY 15th: Check-In 2 (35-50% completion)

AUGUST 12th: Check-In 3 (75-90% completion)

SEPTEMBER 9th: Final Submissions!

So if you're wondering what you're going to be doing this summer (or winter in the southern hemisphere!) spending it in Gravity Falls to work on a piece for the zine would be a pretty fun activity! Already our discord is a blast and a half, and we'd love to have you join us!

Contributor Applications Close in 1 Week!

We've been getting reports that some people have been getting these bug bites on their arms that almost look like they spell something out. But "Zapply for the Zine" doesn't mean anything... does it? Maybe the Soothsquitoes should learn how to spell.

Anyway, there is only ONE WEEK LEFT to apply to be a contributor for the zine! That's right, applications close next Wednesday, May 1.(Told you it would be here before you knew it!) Last but not least, we present our awesome Graphics Mod, Vintagehoneybees!

Vintagehoneybees

Role: Graphics Mod Pronouns: She/they Specimen Records: I'm Vintagehoneybees, or just Vintage! While I wasn't there from the get go, I've been a huge fan of Gravity Falls for a long time (which coming from the person getting their crytozoology certification, probably makes sense) and the community that has come from it. If I had to pick a favorite.... I can't. It's between Mabel and Bill, two ends of the chaos spectrum.

Vintage is our Graphics Mod, which means helping Berry make gorgeous graphics for the zine and our social media posts! These beautiful journal entries were her creation!

Today we're introducing you to someone you've already interacted with but maybe didn't know it, our Head, Shipping, and Socials Mod, JadeSparrow!

Role: Head, Shipping, and Socials Mod Pronouns: She/her Specimen Records: I'm JadeSparrow/MysteryHackin, and you can call me Jade! I found Gravity Falls in 2020 and have been obsessed ever since, especially with all the incredible fanart and fanfic that’s out there! If I had to choose, Stan would be my fav, but he only wins in a photo finish (probably because he cheated).

As Head Mod, Jade helps Berry with the tough decisions, as Shipping Mod, gets to organize and send all the physical orders when they come in, and as Socials Mod, gets to tell everyone about all the awesome things that are going on with the zine (All those exclamation marks? They are sincere! And how I really talk ;) )

Today we are excited to present our Formatting Mod, Ciel!

Ciel

Role: Formatting Mod Pronouns: She/they Specimen Records: I’m Ciel and I’ve been a fan of the show since it first aired! It’s always been one of my favourite fandoms to be a part of, and I’m very excited to be a part of this zine! If I had to pick a favourite character from the series, it would probably be the mystery twins themselves, Dipper and Mabel.

As our Formatting Mod, Ciel is in charge of putting together the digital and physical zines according to the theme and manufacturer requirements. In short, she is going to make the zine be something really special!

While we get the honor of reviewing the contributor applications (open now here and closing May 1!) we thought it would be a good time to introduce you to the Mod Team!

Today, we have a very special introduction to bring you... our Head, Finance, and Graphics Mod, Berry!

Berry

Role: Head, Finance, and Co-Graphics Mod Pronouns: She/they Specimen Records: I'm Berry and I've been a huge fan of the show for a very long time! I recently found out this fandom hasn't had very many zines yet and became determined to run one for this fandom. My favourite characters are the Stan twins.

This entire zine is the brainchild of Berry, and she is the driving force in bringing it to life! As Head Mod, Berry makes the tough decisions, as Finance Mod, estimates and keeps track of the money, and as Co-Graphics Mod, created the beautiful headers you have seen on our posts and forms! (That role is now being shared with our AMAZING main Graphics Mod soon to be introduced...) That's a lot of Mod Hats, but Berry is pretty skilled at wearing them!

Today we have a couple of questions about contributor applications! Applications close May 1, so if you want to apply, you can find the links to the applications here!

Q: Hi! I have two questions pertaining to applying as a contributor:

1. I am a writer and an artist, is there any limit on only applying to be one kind of contributor? (I would probably prefer writing but I love drawing and if I didn’t fit as a writer but fit as an artist I’d definitely want to at least participate)

2. I have been writing Gravity Falls again, but a lot of my fics are 4+ years old. Should I only include my newer fics, or would my older fics be okay to use for examples as well? (My newest stuff has more AUs/the Stan’s when they were younger, whereas my older fics have more examples of my work with the characters in their canon ages/timeline)

A: Hello! Thank you so much for asking!

We are so excited you'd like to apply for two different contribution roles! There is no limit to which contributor roles you can apply for- if you wish, you can apply for all three (Artist, Writer, and Merch Artist)! That being said, please only apply once to each ;)

That's awesome! Please include whichever fics you feel best reflects your writing style. All we ask is that at least one of your fics features the Pines family, and that all of the works are properly tagged. We will judge samples based on characterization, grammar, punctuation, flow, and plot, so if you have fics that you are especially proud of in that regard, please include those! We have been LOVING all of your great applications; thank you so much! Applications are open until May 1, so if you are thinking about applying, please do so!

Today we have a question about our Merch Artist Applications:

Q: Hi there! could you clarify, on the additional Merch app guidelines, by "Only digital artists will be accepted for the merch artist position so please only submit digital samples." what exactly do you mean? Because my first instinct was "there is no physical merch" but then two points above you mentioned physical types of merch and the point right below mentions formatting the merch so now i'm pretty sure that assumption isn't right.

Thank you for asking! We are doing physical merch, but because of the nature of getting merch created, for merch artist applications we are only accepting digital artists (e.g. those that create art through computers/ipads/digital programs) not traditional artists (e.g. those that create art through watercolours/acrylics/oils/pencils). Since merch artists will need to format/submit their designs with certain digital specifications, scanning traditional art wouldn't work in these situations.

HOWEVER... for page art (the art that will go in the zine), works submitted can be digital or traditional as long as they are scanned in at a high quality!

This is an interest check for a Ten Year Anniversary Zine for Over the Garden Wall. The zine will have no real overarching theme, but instead will be a celebration of the series itself.

And last but certainly not least... here is the information about applications for Merch Artists!

One of the great parts of this zine is the Merch, and you (yes you!) get to design it!

SO- if that sounds like something you'd be interested in (applications open April 1st!), read below the cut (or check out our carrd) to find out what to expect!

General Application Rules

1. PLEASE tag your content!

The zine will be completely SFW and will not feature ships, but we understand some people may wish to submit ship art or content that might be less family-friendly in their portfolios.

All mods are 18+ but we don't want any surprises, so please describe your art in the boxes provided if required!

2. At least ONE of your pieces must be Gravity Falls themed or featuring Gravity Falls characters.

We would particularly like to see your work of Ford, Stan, Mabel, or Dipper, as the Pines family is the main focus of this zine!

3. Check your sharing settings!

If sharing a Google Drive folder link for your portfolio, please ensure your folder's sharing settings are set to 'allow anyone with the link to view. You can test this on an Incognito browser or a browser NOT logged into your Google account to make sure.

Mods will NOT be able to contact every person who makes this mistake to ask them to a new link to their portfolio and it is very likely your application will just be dismissed.

MERCH ARTIST APPLICATION GUIDELINES

1. Please submit 3-6 samples of finished work that best represent your style and ability. A “set” can count as one piece (for example, if you have 3 characters together in 1 sticker set, this can be counted as 1 of your 3-6 samples).

2. NSFW works will NOT be allowed in the zine (this will be a family friendly SFW zine!) but you CAN put them in your portfolio.

If your pieces require trigger warnings, feature ANY ships, or feature NSFW content there WILL be a space for you to write this on your form and we expect you to do so. All moderators are 18+ but we wish to avoid any surprises.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding (and yes, this is in here twice because it's so important!)

3. We will judge pieces based on composition, colour and/or value, understanding of form and depth, and rendering.

4. If you have the desire to create a certain type of merchandise for the zine (for example, enamel pins, acrylic charms, shaker charms, sticker sheets, washi tape, etc) it is recommended to show work examples of those types of merch. It is NOT guaranteed that any artist will be assigned any specific type of merch.

5. All examples do NOT need to be merch “items”. Full illustrations or print examples are encouraged.

6. Only digital artists will be accepted for the merch artist position so please only submit digital samples.

7. You do NOT need previous experience with formatting merch to apply as a merch artist! Our moderators have some experience with this and will provide templates and specs to ensure your work is the correct size and resolution to send to the manufacturers.
