I see a lot of love for Dexter Soy and Jorge Jimenez’s illustrating Red Hood, but I think we ought not to forget Jeremy Haun, who illustrated Lost Days and issue 25 of RHATO. He’s the guy who made this page that I see floating around so often:

His style is very distinctive and very fitting for young Jason, and Lord how intense the expressions are! The eyes! And Jason looks his age!

Just realised that I dislike the idea that if Batman doesn't find Jason Todd and take him in then Jason dies on the streets, not because it's unrealistic or underestimates the character. He's 12. He's homeless. In Gotham. Its plenty realistic.
But I dislike it because its only ever brought up its to highlight the good Bruce does, the destitution of the people without him. It is, once again, making Jason Todd's death actually be about Batman.

What if “Jason would’ve died young on the streets had he not met Bruce” was something Jason tells himself as part of why he doesn’t blame Bruce for his death and why he doesn’t regret being adopted by Bruce. And then one day through comic book shenanigans Jason meets an alternate universe version of himself who didn’t meet Bruce and survived to adulthood and is doing fairly ok and suddenly has to come to terms with the fact that Bruce might’ve ruined his life for realsies

do you guys ever think about how Jason has to keep "stealing" his siblings friends because all he had was Gotham and how he never got to actually experience his teenage years, or have his own fun hero friends to hang out with, how he never got a highschool diploma or the opportunity to apply for college and how he'll never be able to get justice over his death because Bruce tampered with the crime scene so no one actually knows that the Joker killed him, or are you guys normal?

One thing that’s annoying about pit madness as a trope in fic is when people act like Jason killing people is the result of magic induced compulsion and not a fundamental philosophical difference between him and the other bats. Jason was already saying “well maybe she had a point” about a woman who killed a serial killer rapist when he was ROBIN

Any au that has Jason willingly working for the government even if it’s as a social worker has automatically kinda lost me because we’re talking about someone who distrusts the system so much that as a child he chose the streets over going into custody of social services. Jason’s lack of faith in institutions continues into adulthood (but also through his original Robin tenure low key), one of the most substantial differences between his and Bruce’s philosophy is the fact that Bruce puts his faith in the law and the criminal justice system while Jason decidedly does not in the slightest

Jason pretending to be a caricature of himself to see how inept/evil his family seriously believes him to be. Yes Tim I am going to kill babies to help poor people that is a real plan I have that I am going to do. Also help me change my Facebook status.
No one ever questions it though, and eventually it just becomes something he does- a defense mechanism. Bruce’s rejection, Dick’s barbs when he loses his cool, the others’ well-meaning comments and dismissals.. they can’t hurt him as much if they don’t really know him.

do you ever think about how red hood lost days is jason's only NEAR-LIFE experience? for a character whose story is so defined by his antecedent death (in that, if he hadn't died in such a horrific and violent fashion, his story would not have arrived to this point) and for someone who is so stubbornly pointing his new life trajectory death-ward (in that he knew on some level that bruce would NEVER allow him to kill joker, and so he would either let all three of them die together or find some way to stop jason once and for all), when talia dipped him in the lazarus pit and provided him with teachers of all disciplines to train with—when he started forming his own moral atlas and deciding where he drew the line of necessary violence and where he will wield that taught violence against his teachers should he find them immoral—THAT is when jason directed his gaze towards the future, towards growth, towards returning to a city that he could not call home but where he will DEMAND a place for himself again, instead of being a death trap pointed inward. he briefly allowed himself hope, a place talia provided for him to grow into himself, before shutting off the light and closing the door.

Literally cannot stand the fandom’s love for both Alfred Pennyworth and Tim Drake, both the biggest Jason Todd haters and yet fandom keeps making them have the “closest” relationship
honestly i understand because as fans, we wanna see more of what isn't actually there. we want to create content for "what could've been" scenarios and that's totally valid. i do that too with bruce and jason despite the obvious abusive relationship.
my only issue is when people try to play it off as canon or make it so that jason is always the villain in the situation. in most fics, he's always guilt tripped by alfred into rejoining a family that's in no way good for him. or he's treated like a devil incarnate in comparison to sweet little baby tim. that's when it becomes annoying because alfred is in no way innocent-- he played a large part in sullying jason's robin legacy. tim also was so questionable towards a dead child. these major things are ignored in fanon content to promote the idea that jason is a horrible, evil human being who has no right to be in their family but maybe he can work his way to it by begging us for forgiveness.

Troy Baker’s Jason voice in Arkham knight is so good like he really ate that up. I think the key was that he was really good at doing the “I’m angry but my voice is cracking like I’m about to cry (because I am)” thing, which is vital for any Jason voice

"you're all misunderstanding under the hood because the point is bruce picked a third option"
and that third option is functionally no different from one of the other options offered in terms of outcome
is a batarang to the throat that much better than a bullet to the head when you still leave the guy bleeding out on the floor
that's the fuckin point
there is no "third option"
not really

A Reminder:
Jason is canonically respectful of women; when he’s Robin, violence against women, as well as people viewing women as ‘less than’, unfailingly spurs him into a rage. Talia, especially, he has nothing but respect for.
There’s also plenty of canon evidence that he feels protective of children.
So why all the jokes where Jason gleefully shouts at Damian that he fucked his mother? Why on Earth would Jason feel the need to bring that up with Damian?
Even if you ignore Jason’s canon traits—why exactly would Damian respond with anger? Why would that be a sore spot for Damian? Do you think he polices his mother’s bedchambers and interrogates her fuckbuddies while holding a blade to their throat?
Do you think that Talia would allow that, even for a second?
Because if you do, I don’t think you understand Talia—or Damian—even a little. And if you think Jason would go around using a woman’s sexuality as a weapon to hurt her son—especially since this is TALIA we’re talking about here? I don’t even have words for how wrong you are.
