I think one of the biggest fantasy appeals of Heartstopper is not just “having a cute teenage romance”, but more specifically having that romance with a guy who unconditionally supports your coming out journey, is there for you, and has a group of queer friends who are also there for you while you’re figuring your queerness out.

The drama from Nick’s POV isn’t so much “Charlie wants us to be out” as it is “I want to be out, but I don’t know how to start.”

everything about the theo and liam vs ghost riders scene is romantic movie cliche.

like you have theo and liam the only two people with a complicated history stuck together and having to fight together and you even get scenes where despite claiming to hate each other they show they care (liam getting theo out from jail and then grabbing his hand and pulling him to safety and asking him what’s wrong when he could tell he was upset about something in the hospital).

they then get into 2 fights where liam threatens to leave him and makes references back to theo’s great betrayal (“im going to do exactly what you would do to me” and “you can do it while you’re running”) very similar to action movie couple who had a falling out and are just now able to talk through their issues due to being stuck together.

liam even saves theo and theos look of complete shock and awe (similar to when action movie couple realizes they still care) and the nonverbal communication that follows.

and then we have the almost kiss fistbump complete with a interruption

and then right after we have theo making a life changing (it seemed at the time) sacrifice for his love interest liam which even had a dramatic goodbye that was a callback to their previous conversation (“being the bait”) which is very action-romance movie trope and a frantic and dramatic no from liam to tie it all together. in conclusion, i am depressed.

2. not trusting Stiles when Theo was around and then not apologizing and just going on a "how could I not see it" rant

Apparently a lot of people get dialogue punctuation wrong despite having an otherwise solid grasp of grammar, possibly because they’re used to writing essays rather than prose. I don’t wanna be the asshole who complains about writing errors and then doesn’t offer to help, so here are the basics summarized as simply as I could manage on my phone (“dialogue tag” just refers to phrases like “he said,” “she whispered,” “they asked”):

“For most dialogue, use a comma after the sentence and don’t capitalize the next word after the quotation mark,” she said.

“But what if you’re using a question mark rather than a period?” they asked.

“When using a dialogue tag, you never capitalize the word after the quotation mark unless it’s a proper noun!” she snapped.

“When breaking up a single sentence with a dialogue tag,” she said, “use commas.”

“This is a single sentence,” she said. “Now, this is a second stand-alone sentence, so there’s no comma after ‘she said.’”

“There’s no dialogue tag after this sentence, so end it with a period rather than a comma.” She frowned, suddenly concerned that the entire post was as unasked for as it was sanctimonious.
