Okay, this is kind of long, but just hear me out:
I keep seeing people say Eddie saying he ‘moves too fast’ seems out of character, but I don’t think I agree.
For one, he proposed to Shanon after she got pregnant, and when she came back in his life he immediately started sleeping with her and immediately moved to re-propose when he thought she was pregnant again.
With Ana, he did take things slower at first, but he did introduce her to Chris pretty quickly (at least I think so). Though, I will admit he didn’t introduce her without thinking about it because he did go to Bobby and Athena for advice. However, after he introduced Ana to Chris, they seemed to get a lot more serious fairly quickly. They hadn’t even said ‘I love you’ before Ana was stepping into this sort of ‘motherly’ role. After all, she was over at Eddie’s house cooking meals (ex: the dinner with/ Carla) and she looked after Chris for days during the blackout, when Abuela or Pepa could have helped out. Eddie described it as a “ready-made family”, which for me translates to ‘things went too fast and got way too serious before I knew it’. When he realized just how serious things were getting, he started panicking. She was enveloped enough in their life that Chris thought they would get married someday. And when the reality caught up to him that he was building this family unit with a woman he didn’t love, couldn’t love, it scared him and he broke it off.
Then he rushed things with M*risol and he freaked out again. The whole (admittedly stupid) nun storyline was there to show us that Eddie didn’t know anything about this woman (and that he has catholic guilt), yet he asked her to move in before he even said I love you. Why? Well, it goes back to Eddie’s age-old enemy: obligation.
For one, he feels obligated to have this permanent mother figure in Christopher’s life (and someone on here made a great post about how Eddie’s decision to ask M*risol to move in tied back to Chris’s storyline in 7x01 which I agree with with 100%). I also know that Eddie has never had a healthy romantic relationship in his life. He has never gotten with a woman without something pushing him to do it. With Shannon, it was a teen pregnancy and the church. With Ana, it was his (well-meaning) friends who pushed him to move on from Shannon. With M*risol, it was Pepa (with good intentions) who pushed him to start dating again, otherwise he might end up alone.
Marrying someone is something one does because one loves someone. Eddie proposed because he was afraid of what the church would think. Letting someone step into a mother-like role in a child’s life is something one does when one loves someone. Eddie did it because he was afraid he and Christopher were never going to be able to move on from Shannon. One asks someone to move in because they love them. Eddie did it because he was scared of having someone else walk out of his and Chris’s life.
Eddie has never followed his heart when it comes to his relationships with women. He has never dated someone casually before. He always tries to commit way before his heart is in it. He goes through these really long stints of being single, followed by relationships that do, admittedly, move really fast. He thinks he’s following his gut, but in truth, he’s following his misguided sense of duty.
The only time Eddie has made a serious commitment that wasn’t born out of obligation, was when he wrote Buck into his will. No one told him to do that. He did that because he wanted the best for Chris, sure, but more so because Eddie doesn’t trust anyone as much as he trusts Buck. And he did that knowing that his parents would disapprove. He did it despite his obligations to his blood family. Eddie followed his heart and tied himself and his son to Buck for the rest of their lives. (And notice how Buck has been a borderline co-parent to Chris for years, and that has never freaked Eddie out before)
So, yeah, I think he does move too fast in his relationships with women because he always takes serious steps before he develops serious feelings for these women. And he probably knows, deep down, that he’ll never be able to develop serious, romantic feelings for women. This is why he jumps into the deep end, because if he doesn’t, then he’ll never get there.
He has wants. He’s just not ready to acknowledge them yet. So, for now, he’ll just keep on doing what he feels he’s obligated to do.

In 3x08, Bobby and Eddie have their first serious conversation in the firehouse loft. This was about Eddie’s fighting, or more specifically why he turned to fighting. He’d been holding all his grief, anger, guilt, and sadness in, and fighting was a way to control all that, to have an outlet. Unfortunately, it ended up being a mode of self-destruction. This conversation was about his fighting, but underneath that, it was about Shannon and about Eddie’s perpetual struggle to differentiate between obligation and want. This conversation was about his relationship with Shannon and all the complexities of it. It was about Eddie not allowing himself to feel anything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 4x06, they have a conversation that is pretty similar to 3x08 in the firehouse loft. It’s even on the same table, except it’s on the opposite side. In 3x08, Eddie was at the head, the beginning, of his grief, because he couldn’t allow himself to feel any of the complex emotions that came with grieving Shannon. In this, he’s at a new place of his, the opposite side, where he’s allowed himself to grieve, but he hasn’t let himself even entertain the idea of moving on. Which, I think, is again because of what he feels he is obligated to do. This conversation was also about Shannon, and it was about Eddie letting himself move on without feeling like he was doing a disservice to Shannon, and more particularly Christopher. Eddie thought this was a conversation about Ana Flores, which is probably why he went into that relationship, but really, this was just Bobby trying to tell Eddie he didn’t need to be stuck on Shannon’s death for the rest of his life.
Tumblr media
This still is from 7x05 (I believe). Obviously, we have no idea what this conversation entails, but given the pattern of the conversations between Bobby and Eddie in the firehouse loft, I have a feeling this is going to be about Marisol and probably Shannon. Bobby is probably going to tell Eddie not follow his gut (which will probably back fire given how wrong Eddie’s gut is when it comes to women). The synopsis for 7x05 backs this up. Given that Bobby says “I can’t tell you how to feel about this job” in the earlier promos, I thought Eddie might be considering a new job opportunity. Given what we know so far from season 7, I know that’s not it. There is a weird pitching of Bobby’s voice in those promos, though, so I think it’s likely he’s listing things and it’s been edited. He might say something along the lines of, “I can’t tell you how to feel about this job, I can’t tell you how to feel about Marisol…”.
If I go along with my theory that the placement in the loft is significant, then Bobby being at a different table means that Shanon isn’t the main issue anymore, but something in the background, something behind him now. Eddie is at a new place in his life, and he’s not so affected by the death of Shannon. However, Eddie is back to needing advice from Bobby about his life in regard to his relationships. It’s possible Eddie seeks out Bobby, but considering Bobby has cornered Eddie in every one of these conversations, I think that is more likely. This conversation is going to be about Marisol on the surface, but underneath, once again, it’s gonna be about Eddie needing to think for himself, and not let other people tell him what he should want.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we have this. I’m guessing this takes place after the talk with Bobby. Given the ladder truck in the back, it’s at least in the same shift. Buck is in his civies, so I’d wager this is at the end of the shift, and Eddie’s working out to think and maybe delay going back to deal with whatever relationship issues he has with Marisol. There’s a good chance Buck’s planning on coming out to Eddie here, but he pivots when he sees how troubled Eddie looks.
This conversation looks a lot like the one Buck and Eddie scene in 5x02, in which Buck called Eddie out for sticking it out in a relationship he didn’t want to be in. Following that conversation, Eddie broke up with Ana. So, with that in mind, I’d say these stills, and the subsequent scene, is a pretty bad omen for Eddie and Marisol. I feel like this conversation is going to come back to Eddie needing to do things because he wants to, and not because he feels like it’s his responsibility as a man and as a father. Eddie doesn’t know what he wants, not really, but I feel like his struggle between want and obligation is still prominent in his character and something I think we’ll see in this next episode.

Buck canonically is attracted to men (everyone cheered). He also canonically hadn’t known what to do with those feelings, until that kiss. He’s probably been attracted to guys his whole life, he just never knew what those feelings meant. Canonically, he acted out, in this macho, insecure, show-boaty way to get Tommy’s attention (though I’m not convinced it was ALL for Tommy’s attention, I think Buck’s still a little confused there). I’d bet my entire bank account that the reason (or at least part of the reason) Buck acted out the way he did in 2x01 is because he was attracted to Eddie. And to compensate for all those scary, unknown feelings, he got mean and jealous and tried to show off.
It makes me wonder: how many times in his life Buck felt an attraction to another guy, and he just didn’t understand what it meant? Was he in high school puffing out his chest because he felt something for another boy he couldn’t put a name to? And when he was traveling around the world, doing different jobs, meeting all kinds of different people?
Buck’s spent his whole life trying to find himself and figure himself out. The first time something clicked for him was when he joined the 118. After that? He got stuck in that hamster wheel that Oliver has mentioned a few times. He went round and round trying to figure something out, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. He probably felt like there was something he was missing, some question he didn’t have an answer to.
But then he kissed a man, and that puzzle piece just clicked into place. That thing that he was searching for, the part of him he didn’t understand was illuminated for the first time in his life. It was like “Oh. This makes sense. This feels right.” In this moment, in this kiss, all those instances in his life, when he’s felt something he couldn’t understand, started to make sense. It truly was like a big sigh of relief for him, a moment where he’s uncovered something that’s both new and not. And it’s exciting and maybe a little terrifying, but it’s good and freeing.
He gets to be more himself than he probably has been for such a long time, or maybe even ever. And I’m so happy for him.

So, Bi Buck is officially fucking canon. I’m sobbing uncontrollably. I’m jumping up and down. I’m squealing. I’m dancing. I’m so overjoyed. I can’t believe after 7 years we are finally getting Buck’s sexuality storyline, and I’m so excited. I can’t wait to see how this storyline goes.

On the surface, Buck thinks he is jealous that Tommy picked someone else over him - picked Eddie over him. Under all that, I really think he is bothered by the fact that Eddie is bonding with someone else. Logically, Buck knows Eddie is allowed to have other friends. Something about it stings, though. Buck has always been the guy who clings. One of his biggest fears, I think, is he’s afraid he loves people more than they love him. So, Tommy comes into the picture, and he and Eddie hang out and watch fighting matches and spar with each other, and Buck’s not included in that. Eddie has Marisol (for now) and Tommy (probably also just for now) and Buck doesn’t really have anyone else outside of the 118. And he’s afraid he’s watching Eddie fill all the spaces Buck used to occupy with other people. But Buck doesn’t know that Eddie loves him to his core and that nothing could ever replace him in Eddie’s life. He’s just afraid he’s watching one of the most important relationships in his life (which is intrinsically linked to another important relationship in his life - Christopher) slip through his fingers. I think, also, Buck subconsciously wants more with Eddie, more than work partners, more than friends, but instead, he feels like he’s getting less and less, and that is what is making him spiral.

I’m going to be overwhelmingly happy about Buck coming out as Bi, but I’d still be sad if he didn’t, at some point, end up with Eddie. They’re THE ship for me, & I’m never going to stop wanting it to happen. Them getting together makes so much sense. All the building blocks are there, and it already has such a big built in fanbase. Bi!Buck is such a big win, on multiple levels, but I’m also looking for a Buddie win at some point too, yk?
THAT BEING SAID, if you hate the idea of Buck exploring his sexuality and being with other men besides Eddie, even temporarily, then you don’t care about Bi!Buck. His bisexuality does not exist solely for Eddie (it’s Buck’s identity), just like when Eddie, hopefully, gets his coming out storyline someday, his sexuality won’t exist solely for Buck (because it’s Eddie’s identity).
I still think that Buddie canon is around the corner, but it makes so much sense that before they do get together there is some exploration beforehand. I love Eddie and Buck so much, and I really want them to get big, emotional storylines about their sexualities and identities, without people getting mad that those identities aren’t completely and singularly revolved around the other.

"I think it's almost a feeling of searching or uneasiness, not necessarily with Eddie, but within himself," Stark, 32, exclusively told Us Weekly while promoting season 7. "And it's easier sometimes to put that onto somebody else than have to do the self-reflection and self-interrogation of, 'Hey, what am I actually feeling here?'"
.
"I think once you watch the episode, you actually realize it's not necessarily that he just doesn't quite understand what he's feeling," he said. "And this jealousy [with Eddie] is the way that it manifests itself, but it's not necessarily the root cause of his unease."
.
"And I think that's kind of the story that we're able to start to tell here, is that Buck isn't consciously aware of the thing that he's looking for or what's lacking in his life," Stark shared with Us. "And as he hopefully starts to discover that it's this cathartic, liberating feeling of just being able to ease into it and breathe out this big sigh of relief at last."
.
Everything we’ve been given in terms of promotion, interviews, and plot really feels like Buck is going to figure out he has feelings for Eddie in 7x04, and will grapple with what that means in 7x05. The episodes that follow might follow Buck as he tries to figure out more about who he is and his sexuality, and what his feelings for Eddie might mean for their friendship. Does he want to pursue that potential relationship? Does he want to go out into the world and dive deep into a part of himself he’s only just discovered or acknowledged for the first time?
This really does feel like Bi Buck is finally incoming this season, and that makes me so excited. Seeing a Bisexual character in such a massive show will be such a big deal. I think it will be such a beautiful storyline for Buck.
(Maybe by the time the finale roles around Buck will confess, and then when s8 starts up it begins with Eddie grappling with Buck’s confession and his feelings for Buck that he doesn’t understand fully. I literally can’t wait for the storyline of Eddie undoing years of repression and accepting himself and his sexuality).
I think the rest of s7 and the first half of s8 would be a great span of episodes to stretch out some angst, sexuality discoveries, and some not actually unrequited love.
Maybe I’m still delusional, but it really feels like something has shifted this time. I’m so excited to see where this all leads.

Friendly reminder not to send the 911 actors hate because you don’t like a storyline or you can’t be patient enough to see where it will go. People are already speculating on a Buck/Tommy kiss and sending Oliver hate over it. You do realize the show knows how passionate we are over Buddie. I have every faith that if they decide to have Buck come out it means Buddie is in the cards at some point. Still Oliver and Ryan are just playing a part they have little control over where the storyline is going. No matter how we end up feeling over the next few eps please don’t spend them hate because of it. Oliver in particular has been chased away from social media in the past and he’s always so good to our fandom he doesn’t deserve that crap. If you end up needing to vent that’s what we have tumblr for. And the actors aside for the love of god allow the season to play out more before you riot over one episode.

I’m actually so glad those still are from 7x05. That just means that whatever storyline unfolds, and I really think it’s finally leaning into the romance category, it’s not rushed. This whole conflict and reconciliation between Buck and Eddie is important enough not to rush. Not to mention the jealousy arc starts in an episode named after a love song, and 7x05 is possibly (not confirmed, of course) named after “You Don’t Know Me” by Ray Charles (if you haven’t, look up the lyrics because holy fuck) which is another love song. Not to mention Oliver and Ryan had only filmed up to like episode 6, and described this relationship as “closer than ever”, “beyond friendship”, “vulnerable”, “giving the audience what they want”. And Oliver said Buck was uncovering things about himself. Plus, they already established how important their friendship is within the first episode, so what new direction could they go in but romantic? The interviews, the articles, the stills, the episode titles, the writing - it is all spelling Buck and Eddie finally realizing their feelings for each other and a shift from friendship to romance.

So these stills are from 7x05. Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool.
That has to mean that the whole conflict with Eddie has to last from 7x04 to 7x05. Right? This has to be a resolution scene. (Someone said it looked like Eddie was teaching Buck how to dance, which I’m not quite delusional enough to hope for that. But I’d be very happy to be wrong about that lol) I makes me wonder if Eddie doesn’t spend those two episodes thinking about the possibility of Air Support? And him and Buck are on the outs for episodes 4 and 5. Then Eddie goes to Buck’s place to reassure him that he’s not going anywhere. And to make it clear just how important Buck is in Eddie’s life. Then they hug. (And hopefully at some point between these two episodes we get a feelings realization).
The real question is how am I going to survive two more weeks to find out exactly what is happening in this scene???

Do you know what an intimacy coordinator is required for? Like would they need one for a hug between two characters or would it have to be more physical than that such as kissing? Not asking with any motivation in mind other than genuine curiosity about how the media industry works! 😊
I'm gonna attach a video of actual intimacy coordinators talking about this and a link to an article about it. Both should be pretty helpful.
Physically, it can range from kissing to sex. It can be things that aren't physical, though, like when you're depicting things that are emotionally imitate. Sometimes, they use them because they want an outside perspective to help with a scene that's emotionally/physically intimate.
The role of an intimacy coordinator covers many things.
Anyways:
