WIP: Mastergrade Sniper II. Getting close to matte coat and pre weathering assembly. Last night was a busy one with a long session of tedious hand painting of rivets and details in the calf and elbow armor. Metallics on the rifle are done ready to be placed in the body for final seam removal. I had to fix a part which cracked when I put it back into the foot so that has delayed things a little. I originally tried to putty it but had to go back and cement the crack together. Grrrr. It wouldn't be fun if it was easy. A few items for my R2D2 project arrived today. 1206 SMDs and an Arduino. Got a roll of 0.25mm fibre optic cable coming soon also. Planning on having alternating blue/red and yellow/green lights on the front and back lenses plus a few fibre optics in the pixel bays on each side. Will be a fun little project to learn a few new tricks. WIP: Battle of Endor. Started painting the pilots tonight. This is as far as I got before I started nodding off at the bench. Still need to paint the belts and fix up the gloves and tidy up a few things that I am just noticing. The arms on these pilots are kinda shit so it’ll be a bit of guess work as the glove lines aren’t moulded in. I think the colours are close enough but I may go back and fix the seat belt colour tomorrow night. WIP: Battle of Endor. So for a bit of a challenge I decided I would paint the cock pit of AT-ST. I have never painted minis or anything with a great deal of detail before by hand so this is the result of tumbling down the learning curve at pace. This is the back portion of the clock pit and I have tried my hardest to match up the colours from screen caps of Episode VI, but have taken liberty where I have no reference. The buttons and lights were a challenge but I think one things gets a wash it will all blend together nicely. This is a pretty much zero risk activity because if I fuck it up, it's covered up anyway! All paints used were Vallejo Model Color. Handy trick I have picked up a while back. If you use a cheap ultrasonic cleaner with a plastic outer case and clean with lacquer thinner, over time it will look like mine due to splashes and spills when emptying it. Cut the top off a Mr Color Levelling Thinner bottle, and fill with your thinner (I use a hardware brand for cleaning) and carefully place your parts in. Put water in the bath itself and place the bottle in the water. Turn it on and booyah. Still a great deep clean of your airbrush and you can empty your bath without melting the case. WIP: Battle of Hoth (working title) diorama. Things are getting real now. Added some pins to the feet to secure the AT-AT to the base and found some wire that is both scale appropriate and strong enough to hold the weight of the snow speeder. Tricky part now will be to wrap this wire around so that it looks tight around the legs. Will add snow to the feet and other parts once I fix it to the base and add some foot prints behind. I also puttied up the sides of the diorama ready to sand up and paint. WIP: Battle of Hoth (working title diorama). Started some very light sponge chipping on the head. For some reason I have been a bit nervous starting the weathering process on this build. I think it's probably because I'm a little rusty (pun intended), not so familiar with the scale and that I'm consciously holding myself back from going overboard. I put so much effort into the dio that I really want the vehicles to stand up and match the quality. I also have to remind myself (again) that this is just a layer and not the final product. I have the fuzzy, soju soaked memories of chatting with @weatheredaz and @nozakuboy about this too! I'm not generally a confident guy so these are the small battles I face when I build but I have great crew and community around me. I don’t usually do shading but I thought this would be a good opportunity to use to break up the grey and add some interest. WIP: MG RX-79(G). Finished snapping this tonight. Hard not to love this kit but there are few minor annoyances. Firstly, mould lines and flashing. There was quite a lot of this across the kit but the weapons were the worst. All it cost me was a bit of time to remove them but it was getting a bit annoying toward the end of the build. Then we have the hands. These things struggle to hold the smallest weapon without it slipping. Again this can be fixed with a bit of effort but I’d expect a kit to be able to hold its weapons straight out of the box. All in all though this kit looks great and provides a great blank canvas for detailing. The flaws can be overcome with a bit of effort. Big plus for me is that there are no seam lines on the mobile suit at all! Heaps in the weapons me but that is standard.
