I'm making lamp black to add to my open stock watercolor collection. Each color is hand-mulled and cured over many weeks.
It's the most intense black I've made, and I enjoy using it almost like an ink or for dramatic moments - like the shadow under the bridge here:

This year I collected a bunch of fallen walnut fruit and made ink and stain. It was pretty easy to make - just about 20 rotten walnuts simmered for about 5 hours in water. So far I've used it to stain leather and paint in my sketchbook. I added gum arabic powder to thicken the ink and sodium benzoate to preserve it.
It's a beautiful color. Unfortunately, walnut ink is fugitive, so it's something for my sketchbook and not for the art pieces I sell.

I've been drawing elves lately. I love doodling mostly hypothetical rpg characters and elves currently have a hold on my mind.
This doodle was my attempt at a forest elf adventurer. When I showed it to Steven he was enthusiastic and said "that elf is ready to go shopping!"
That made me laugh and I had to agree this elf looks more ready for the mall than a dungeon.
So this new year I want to learn how to draw interesting weapons and armor.

I didn't get to practice my art as much last year, because I was working a stressful job that took most of my focus. I'm not sure what the new year will bring, but I'm looking forward to practicing more art.
