There is something comforting and feminine about Berthe Morisot’s paintings ♡
#she's probably my favourite artist and I think it's because she takes the voyeurism of impressionism and subverts it#she looked at her contemporaries paintings of women getting dressed or sleeping etc and said 'oh women existing in domestic spaces? sure'#I don't know how to explain it but her paintings feel like you are coexisting with other women in the same space peacefully#whereas so many degas or manet paintings feel like you are an unseen voyeur invading a woman's private space#or that she knows you're watching her and she's annoyed at you#is this a common interpretation amongst art scholars? am I making shit up? am I on to a revolutionary theory in the field? idk#berthe morisot#impressionism#art
