Since graduating, have you found a job that lets you be who you are, or are you forced to conform to the old gender norms?

It's been hard, but yes! Thanks for asking!This past year+ working at a telefundraising call center where everyone is free to dress however they like AND the supervisors even try to get pronouns right! It's probably because the donors can't see us through the phone... But sometimes they call me "ma'am" over the phone, so it's been incredible for taming my dysphoria. (Even if the actual work of asking folks for charity money is super draining). But I'm actually finally leaving this job in two weeks to start a fun retail position where *bum bum bum* everyone must wear pants! Still my boss/coworkers are really quick about pronouns, and I'm allowed to do whatever makeup/hair/nails/femme tops/leggings I want! The trade off: wearing dresses & skirts fulfilling work that isn't depressing. So, yes, overall, it's a hard thing for me as a bearded person who wears dresses. I feel awful when I have to present too masc... But I put "allows nb/femme presentation" as a priority in my job search (right up there with "will afford rent"), put out a bunch of apps, put my charisma on the table, and hope for an open minded interviewer.Transgender mental health. It's important. I do a far better job when I'm not dysphoric the whole time!
