History of Tango
Back in 18th century, the streets were the favourite place for slaves, European immigrants, and lower-class people in Argentina for dancing. This dance is now popular as Tango. A man and a woman dance with erotic movements to a music also known as Tango. It is one of the most influential and famous dances of the modern world that has made its way in the category of ballroom dances.
Tumblr media
History of Tango
Tango has obscure origins and no legitimate history that can prove how it came into existence. It is known that tango was a term used for musical gathering of slaves in the River Plata region. The area had a high population of African and European immigrants. People used to gather along the ports of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Montevideo and Uruguay. The name for these gatherings began to be used synonymously with the dance and music style of those people. However, the earliest versions are not known to exist and the one in practice, The Argentine Tango, is the most popular type of the dance that managed to survive through the years.
There was a time when the government banned tango musical gatherings in 1789. From being called the music of the immigrants to becoming the most popular ballroom dance, Tango had to go through a lot. The massive influence of people from different cultures of Africa, Spain, Italy, and other native Argentinians and the rhythms and instruments they brought made up the tango as we know it today. The young immigrants who came to Argentina for a better life had a big role in popularizing the Tango initially. Their influence on the original tango was instrumental in capturing the attention of the wealthy classes who further popularized it in  “coventillos” gathering. Later, these began to be performed in theatre houses by actors. This class of rich people of Argentina helped the tango to spread across other countries they travelled. That’s how tango became an overnight sensation in the Paris of the 1900s.
Early form of tango was performed in Cuba and Spain in the mid-19th century as solo dances by women. This was more like Andalusian tango that was a mixture of tango and flamenco. This form didn’t get enough popularity and was branded as immoral and flirty.
Tango would have never been born without the immigrants of the 18th and 19th centuries. What had started in a poor slum area as a medium of entertainment, had now developed into a dance of choice. When it reached in the core Argentinian cities, people from all classes became energised with a new musical and cultural style. Tango became more and more welcome. Dancers started to appreciate the traditional tango instruments that were not given too much importance earlier. Soon enough, tango became a craze, not only in Argentina but also in other European countries and North America. Since then, there have been variations to suit the local styles without altering the mood or the basic movements of the tango.

Terms and terminology of belly dancing
To define belly dancing as a dance with belly movements might sound a little vague. This artistic dance form is much more than just that. And a long history that explains its existence. The term belly dance is itself a translation of the French term Dance du ventre. A French artist's orientalist painting of a middle-eastern woman dancing with her uncovered belly amidst a group of soldiers inspired this nickname for the dance form.
Tumblr media
This term “danse du ventre” was later used as a term for torso-articulated dances that had presumably originated in the Middle East. When Egyptian dancers performed at Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1889, the English term belly dance was first known to have been used. It is further divided into two types – the Raqs Baladi and the Raqs Sharqi. The Raqs Baladi is more informal and social dance and is considered “the dance of the country” or “the dance of folks” in Egyptian Arabic language. Basically, it comprises movements that are recognized as belly dance moves. Meanwhile, the Raqs Sharqi is a more broad category that incorporates the Raqs Baladi and other professional forms like Sa'idi, Ghawazee and Awalim. The Raqs Sharqi is highly inflenced by ballet and Latin dance and is performed mainly in cabarets and clubs.
The movements in the dance come without any names, like ant other folk dance, but some modern-day schools have introduced some names for these moves. The most common names given to these moves are  Basic Egyptian, Maya, and Turkish drop. These terms are devised by Suhaila and Jamila Salimpour – the first ones to coin names for the belly dance movements.
Maya is the name for hip movements on a vertical plane. While one hip moves up, away from the body, then down and back to centre, the other hip moves down, into the centre and then away from the body. Ghawazee is performed on all fours. The hands are perpendicular to the floor at waist height. While the dancers pushes his hands forward onto the floor, the hips are pushed backwards imitating the movement of a horse. A similar step to this is the Sa'idi. In Sa’idi, the position remains the same as Ghawazee. The only difference is that one foot steps backward and forward and the arms move to the rhythm of the moving leg. Another of the moves is termed as Zar. The dancers rotates the head in circles throwing the hair in the air. The Zar head is an imitation of the ritual in Egypt and some middle East countries that symbolise possession of a women by a spirit.
Although the dance movements do not have any names at the time of their birth, naming them to suit the conveniences of those who wish to learn can be effective indeed. The terminology of belly dancing is vast and can be only understood in the context of the cultures of the middle-eastern countries. As such, the names are also attributed to the rituals and indigenous customs.

List of National Dances
Artistic representation of a country’s customs and unique traditional features can be conveniently called a national dance. Nearly every country in the world has a recognised form of dance that represents the country’s culture.
•Zeybek (Turkey)- Each region in Turkey has its own culture that represents its traditions. Zeybek originated in the Aegean coast that involves men dancing in colourful costumes. Their movements are a symbol of heroism and bravery. Other dances are Horon and Kasik Oyunu(spoon dance).
Tumblr media
•Flamenco (Spain)- The official National Dance of Spain, Flamenco originated in the late 18th century in Andalusia in southern Spain. A form of Spanish folk dance, singing, playing the guitar, hand-clapping and dancing are what comprise Flamenco. It is equally popular in other parts of the world, so much so that there are more flamenco academies in Japan than Spain to learn the dance.
Tumblr media
•Bedouin Belly Dance (Egypt)- Widely considered as the home of belly dancing, Egypt boasts of a unique dancing style that is admired and practised by people around the world. The awe-inspiring movements of the belly are the most beautiful aspects of the dance form that differentiates it from other dances originating in the middle East.
Tumblr media
It has two main styles- Raqs Baladi and Raqs Sharqi. Raqs Baladi is based on the countryside folkloric dances. Raqs Sharqi is more of what is called the contemporary “cabaret” that became popular in the 1920s movie scenes. These two styles are more often combined for an aesthetic appeal.
•Maple Leaf Stomp (Canada)- This is the official national dance of Canada although there are other popular dances in the country. Usually a partner is required in this dance to hold hands and step to the side. Other similar dances include the Canadian Stepdance which is also the unofficial national dance.
•Jipin Dance (Brunei)- The local Brunei population is known for its jipin dance. Six men and six women perform this dance. The performance is backed by musicians playing the traditional musical instruments like dombak (a type of drum) and rebana(tambourine). Since Brunei has a strong Islamic influence, the dancing scene is somewhat of a restricted area.
•Bon Odori (Japan)- In a country that has closely held its cultural identity for centuries even in the changing culture and society, dances remain a part of the tradition. Japan has successfully embedded its cultural and traditional features in the form of dances that differ greatly from other international dance forms. One such dance is Bon Odori. It is performed in summer festivals during August to commemorate the ancestors. People wear the traditional “kimono” dress and dance to traditional music with various movements. It has a huge number of participants – both local and visitors. Even the tourists like to get involved. The dancing is public and celebratory.
Since there are various dances in any country, it becomes a difficult task to designate a national dance. That’s why, a lot of countries have no designated national dance. Even then, a higher value is attached to the traditional dances.

Belly Dancing Costumes
A lot is spoken and written on the intricacies of belly dance, carefully articulated movements of the hip, neat depiction of the dancer’s feelings through her body, etc. But when it comes to the costumes, there is only a general idea that is prevalent among the people. There are not many that actually seem to know the dressing customs of belly dancing in the indigenous way. What is portrayed in movies is only a common costume and it may or may not be worn by the professional Egyptian or Turkish belly dancers.
Tumblr media
Costume is an important part of any dance and has an equal role to play in the performing arts. In the instance of belly dancing, it is pertinent that the costumes are well-defined and eye-catching. That is why there are different styles of costumes used in belly dancing by dancers worldwide. Although the basic design remains the same, there are a few alterations done to enhance the vibe. The main parts of the costume includes a bra top and a skirt. The belly needs not to be covered. Instead, the movements of the torso should be completely visible in any type of costume. That’s probably why the belly dancers wear a bra top and a skirt.
Belly dance skirts are available in a lot of variations. The fish tail skirt is made of velvet/chiffon, the chiffon skirt is long and flowy, gypsy skirt that is made of a heavier material and is popular in tribal style. The skirts can be more or less revealing; they are made of light and almost transparent material with long slits or the ones of thicker fabric without any slit.
The tops come in various styles and designs and are decorated with coin or beads. Some are short like a bra while others can be long enough to come just above the navel, or a short top that is tied on the front with a knot. These tops have long sleeves that are in a bell shape opening midway through the arm.
Instead of a skirt, belly dancers can also wear pantaloons. These are pants that are wide enough in a bell shape. Usually, they are tied around the ankle with an elastic band. They are left open in the tribal style. When tied, these are called harem pants or chalwar in Persian.
The cabaret costume is referred to as Bedleh. It consists of a beaded bra top, bare midriff, beaded hip belt and long skirt. The costumes made in the past were heavily beaded. But the modern fashion in Egypt has replaced it with a lighter version by using rhinestones rather than beads.
Other types of less-common costumes include the Sarongs, Beledi, etc. The dancers also wear accessories like headbands, turbans, shoes, hip scarves, wrist and arm cuffs. Just like the main dance costume, the accessories are decorated heavily with beads. This shimmer and glitz further adds to the beauty of the mesmerising and erotic movements of the female body and enhances it.

The spirituality of belly dancing
More than merely an expressionist art form, belly dance has a spiritual appeal to it. Originating in ancient Egypt, this dance form is practised across the world with some minor variations. Flexible body movements are connected to the chakras (energy centres) of the body. This is the main principle behind yoga. As such, it is not irrelevant to liken belly dance to meditation.
Tumblr media
For women, belly dancing is a celebration of their sexuality. The curves are perfectly suited for moving their body while releasing the stored tensions,  heightening awareness and supporting spiritual unfolding. What may seem like any other dance form is just another way of exploring the possibilities of the body. While meditation allows to explore the mind through relaxation, belly dancing allows the exploration of the body. Belly dancing is related to the body-gravity adjustment for attaining the correct postural alignment. This inner relaxation forms the foundation of the dance for even the most tense and energetic movements. Such relaxation can be the key to divine inspiration and an understanding in the art that comes from soul.
Emotions and thoughts expressed during the dance are a path for spiritual manifestation. The coordinated movements are meant to help the dancer reflect upon the body and soul. Dancers who believe in the soul and energy while prioritizing spirituality in their lives consider belly dancing a spiritual practice. Spirituality in belly dancing is attained when dancers let go of the worries and cares. That is when they experience connections with the world. The dance itself is known to facilitate such experiences of the soul along with the environment in which one dances.
As a spiritual activity, belly dancing quietens the mind and usually serves as a ritual or a form of worship. Apart from building the leg strength and torso muscles, it is an engaging pursuit. Those who practice it regularly find it easy to express themselves that they would not be able to in everyday language. This is chiefly characteristic of other spiritual activities like yoga and meditation. Unlike them, belly dancing sets a mood for spirituality. People are able to better connect themselves to their higher selves.
Just like any other healing process, belly dancing is known to heal illnesses of the mind. Anxiety and depression, which are not a new phenomena of today’s world, can be effectively cured with the dance form. It gives the opportunity to look deep into yourself while trying to coordinate the torso and hip movements. The liberating body moves and the unique experience give the dancer a more positive image of their body and helps them see themselves in a better light. This stream of positivity can also be experienced with other spiritual activities but the effect is magnified by the thousand times in belly dancing. Dancing distracts one from the more stressful aspects and gives him more moments of self evaluation. Thus, belly dancing is more spiritual than artistic and that has made it a cure for the matters of the soul.

How to Choose Ballroom Dance Shoes
Perhaps, you have taken a couple of ballroom dance lessons, and things are about to get more serious. Then, it is high time to consider purchasing a few ballroom dance shoes. A well-constructed and quality dance shoe would go a long way in improving your performance. To help choose suitable dance shoes for yourself, consider the following useful tips.
Tumblr media
1. Check the fitness
While the size of a shoe is one thing; fitness is another. Ensure that your new pair of dance shoes fit snugly without extra space nor pressure to your feet. In this way, you can easily control your shoes. You can consider going a half or one-inch down compared to your regular shoes.
 2. Consider open-toe against the closed-toe shoe
If you plan to perform Latin and rhythm dances such as Rumba, swing, or Salsa, then you should consider using a pair of open-toe shoes. The reason is that Latin and rhythm dances demand pointing your toes and articulating your feet. For such performances, open shoes will come handy as they would allow you to point your toes quickly and perform footwork with greater precision.
On the contrary, closed-toe shoes are best used for smooth and standard dances as they require a more conventional look. Thus, if you plan dancing the Foxtrot and Waltz in your next outing, then consider going with closed-toe shoes. However, if you are still learning several dance styles as a beginner, then you should use Latin dance shoes or open-toe shoes since they are suitable for almost every style.
 3. Consider Heel heights
For most Latin and ballroom dance shoes, the height usually ranges between 1.5 inches to 3 inches. A beginner should use a heel height that makes you feel comfortable. For those who are not accustomed to heels, then endeavour to begin with shoes having lower heels. Also, heels are available in different shapes, such as slim and flared.
Considering that flared heels give more stability, they are more popular among dancers. Men should wear 0.5-inch heel for ballroom dance performance while a 1.5-inch Cuban heel is recommendable for Latin dance styles. If you are not performing in a dance competition, then a 0.5-inch heel suffices for Latin and ballroom dances.
 4. Check out Suede Sole Shoes
Among your dance shoes, endeavour to have one or two pairs of suede sole shoes. With a suede sole shoe, you will have the right balance and control during turns and movement because it offers the perfect amount of slip and traction. However, remember to use a wire dance shoe brush to brush your suede sole once in a while – it will help maintain its roughness.
 5. In-store purchase Vs. Online purchase
Whether you intend to purchase online or from a physical store, endeavour to visit the supply store first and try on the shoes before payment. While the size number may be the same, the sizing differs among brands. Hence, you are best advised to compare different brands, models, and sizes to secure the perfect fit for yourself.
 6. Maintenance
Another vital point to consider while purchasing ballroom dance shoes is maintenance. Shoes can be easily damaged by moisture. You should get shoe trees to absorb moistures from your shoe after every performance. If you are really concerned about shoe odor, then consider getting cedar shoe trees. Although dance shoes tend not to last for years because of the construction material and manner of use, you can get two or more pairs of shoes to avoid overworking a single pair of dance shoes. Also, refrain from wearing the dance shoe outdoor or casually as the suede leather can be damaged easily by water or any harsh objects.
 7. Price
If you plan to get Latin and ballroom dance shoes, then be prepared to spend between $80 to $300 depending on the shoe quality and brand. To be specific, you can get a quality pair of dance shoes at $170. Getting a few quality dance shoes is better than purchasing many low-quality products. Aside from a long lifespan, quality shoes will offer comfort and support to your dance.
 Conclusion
Hopefully, this article will help guide your decision-making on getting your first pair of ballroom dance shoes. Endeavour to adhere to the tips discussed and get ready to deliver awe-inspiring ballroom dance performance with your quality and fitting dance shoes.

How to Make a Junior’s Competition Latin Dress
Designing a befitting dress for junior Latin dance is no rocket science as long as you can keep some important factors in mind. Importantly, you should consider the dress color, convenience of removal, and the nature of the material – preferably, you should use elastic material. Also, the adaptability of the material should not be overlooked. To make a lovely and befitting Latin dress for your little one, endeavor to keep the following basics in mind:
Tumblr media
· First off, Latin dress is designed with bare arms and an asymmetrical neckline.
· Regardless of your preferred color, ensure that the dress has a double strap on one shoulder. With two straps, the child will be able to put it on using different styles.
· Place an appealing little flower just below the collar bone of the covered shoulder. Ensure that the flower has good adjustability.
· You can also place a little bow on the wrist; however, ensure that it can be detached with ease.
· Use an easily detachable arm gauntlet that can be worn on the two arms.
· Endeavour to design the dress with a mobile waist brand to make the dancer appears shorter. Also, try to use a contrasting color for the band.
· At the back of the waistband, you should place an appealing little bow with contrasting colors as well, such as green and pink.
· For early age dancers, endeavor to use a long skirt; the use of three layers is ideal. Also, ensure that the innermost layer sticks out slightly beyond the upper layers.
· Try to make the first layer of the skirt with thin horsehair; the second with a lightweight fishing line; and the third with horsehair.
· Use a design that allows for the addition of more layers. In this way, you can increase the length as appropriate as the dancer continues to grow in size and height.
· A Latin dance dress must be removable as the dancers will have only a few minutes to change clothes in-between dances. Thus, ensure that the dress can be easily stripped off.
· Concerning the back view, it should be designed with a diagonal oval opening. And ensure that the opening is age-appropriate. This implies that it should show just the right amount of flesh as the dancer becomes taller and broader with age.
· And lastly, a stretchy knee-length chiffon skirt can be designed to replace the ankle-length skirt for older dancers. The chiffon skirts should have hooks that can be easily removed, and they must have a contrasting color with the dancer’s top.
Conclusion
Understandably, every parent wishes for his and her child to triumph in a Latin dance competition. However, remember that one of the important areas to give your child a good chance of winning is the dance dress. Hence, endeavor to design the cloth with the right materials and use the correct size. Don’t provide over-sized clothing nor a tight-fitting one; ensure that the dress makes your child feels comfortable and happy to bring home the trophy. Also Latin Shoes for you kids.Good luck!

The Power of Dance-the Impact of Dance on Mental Health
Hardly would you find a region or a specific group of people without a particular form of dance. It is safe to say that dancing is a common body language of expression throughout the world. So, understandably, you are likely familiar with the great feeling that often accomplishes a dance session. Whether you are having a nice time at a wedding, holiday parties, dance lessons, or any other ceremonies, creating different moves with your body is always lovely to watch.
Dance is even more beneficial to the dancer than the spectators. Dancing is a form of cardiorespiratory exercise that helps improve your heart and lung performance. Also, it is ideal for stretching muscle groups and working out the joints. However, more than the physical benefits, dance helps improve our mental health more than we know. To learn more about how dancing influences our psychological system, kindly read to the end.
Tumblr media
Reduces Stress and Improves Mood
Researchers have shown that while dancing, several mood-improving hormones are usually released into the body. These substances help improve the mental state of the dancer, even if it’s a single dance session. According to research conducted by a Psychology Professor at the University of Hertfordshire, there is a significant increase in happiness achieved while dancing, which often lasts for close to a week after the dance.
Additionally, a study conducted in 2007 showed that engaging hip hop dance contributes to a reduced level of stress, which is similarly achieved when one performs an aerobic exercise. Moreover, several experts explained that since dancing involves the sense of touch, making a human to human physical contact reduces the level of stress and anxiety significantly. Thus, it helps improve the overall mental health of the participant.

A Tool of Therapeutic Expression and Social Anxiety
For many years, several experts have studied the connection between dance and anxiety. Fortunately, many recent studies confirmed that it does not only reduce stress, but it is also a therapy for getting rid of social anxiety. Since dancing helps the participants to become lively and “loosen up,” it gives the freedom to express themselves publicly.
More so, therapists recommend dancing to patients who suffer from social anxiety. The idea is that while dancing, people become less-conscious when engaging others. Thus, they become freer to relate with others without any concern.
Also, it can be challenging for people who have a mental illness to express their feelings. But dancing gives such people a chance to use the artistic portal to convey their messages comfortably to others. In other words, they can use dancing to express emotions and communicate feelings freely.
Tumblr media
Eliminates Depression
In a recent study, hospitalized patients for depression were taken to recreational dance sessions. After a while, the result showed a considerable reduction in their level of depression. Also, other studies have shown that mild to moderate depression can be reduced significantly by attending a few weeks of dance and movement program. Besides, dancing is an effective way to connect and socialize, as explained earlier. As you develop relationships with other people, you are more likely to become livelier and engage different people on exciting topics. In this way, you will give depression little to no chance of affecting you.
 Conclusion
Finally, dancing is advisable for managing mental health as it is a mood and expression therapy. Whether you are young or old, making some moves to a pleasant song will help establish a good connection with others and free your mind of negative thoughts. If you like, you may consider formal dance class or exercise class to engage in some dance sessions. However, a nice dance time with your family and loved ones is always a great idea.

The History of Flamenco Dance
Over the years, different dance styles have originated from various regions of the world. Among the most notable dance styles is the flamenco dance. Traditionally, the Gypsies of Andalucia are known to be the original dancers of flamenco song and dance. However, it is worth mentioning that several scholars have debated its evolution over the years. Currently, there is no accepted explanation concerning how flamenco dance evolved due to the cultural influence of North Africa, Near and the Far East, as well as Southern Europe.
Tumblr media
As of today, flamenco dance is a popular style in Spain and beyond. In fact, it has never been more popular as a new generation of flamenco dancers have widened the appeal and performance of the dance style to the international audience. Let’s delve further into the history of Flamenco dance.
A Brief History of Flamenco Dance
During the early 19th century, flamenco dance became popular as café entertainment when it was commonly performed by the Gypsy, Andalusian, Moorish, among others. The core part of flamenco dance is the Canto (song), which comes in three forms:
· Grande: This flamenco song is usually intense and profound. Sometimes, it can have a tragic tone and imbued with Duende, which is the transformation by the depth of the emotion on the part of the musician. The form is also referred to as the Hondo (grand or profound).
· Intermedio: Here is the intermediate flamenco song. It is moderately serious, and the music may sound oriental.
· Pequeno: This word translates to small in English and represents light songs of love, nature, and exuberance.
Also, there are some individual genres. For instance, we have the light bulerias; the fandangos grandes which is a serious version of the lighter non-Gypsy genre; the more serious soleares and the alegrias, which is the lighter descendant; the malaguenas, which is a variant of the fandangos; and lastly, there are the cantos grandes like the saetas, the siguiriyas, and the gitanas.
Flamenco dance has no specific rules that bind the movements; you simply improvise during the performance. The same thing goes to the text and melody of the songs while being played with the traditional and characteristic chords and rhythms. However, when men are performing the flamenco dance, you will notice intricate toe movements and heel-clicking steps. As for the women, the traditional dance is based on the movement of the body and hand. While performing flamenco dance, rhythmic finger-snapping, shouting, and clapping may accompany the dance and song.
Historians believe that bailegrande (deep songs) has characteristics of some dances in India – a region where the Gypsies originated from. More so, it is worth mentioning that Castanets, which is found in Andalusian dance, are not originally part of flamenco. During the 19th century, most of the genres were accompanied by guitar. Consequently, many guitar solos for the dance were developed. By the 20th century, a significant aspect of the traditional flamenco dance was distorted by commercial pressure.
Nevertheless, currently, you can find the best flamenco performance in Seville in many quality shows around the year. Also, gypsies from Granada often use flamenco dance to entertain visitors coming to the cave of Sacramonte. Beyond Andalucía, the best place to watch quality flamenco performance is Madrid.

How to show dance for a wedding - Easy steps for beginners
Whether you are preparing for a wedding, life celebration, or birthday bash, knowing how to make basic dance steps is beneficial. Sometimes, dancing is a priceless method for improving one’s mood. You can even clear negative thoughts off your mind with nice music and a few simple dance steps.
If dance can help lift our moods, then what about your wedding day when you need to be in “fine form” and joyous mood? In such a moment, you should be able to pull off some subtle dance moves to entertain yourself, guests, and most notably, your spouse.
However, there are different dance styles. While some require a few complicated steps, others do not take more than a few easy steps to give a good performance. Perhaps it is only a few months at your wedding, and you would like to show dance with your lovely partner during the big moment. Then, endeavor to consider the following easy steps for beginners.
Tumblr media
1. Fundamental Side Move
Regardless of the song, the basic side step will suit any tune. More so, it is easy to learn. You can easily move your sides slowly to slower songs, or try to catch up with the tempo of the song. The basic side move allows you to swerve gently with your partner or even perform a solo dance. Whether you are dancing with your spouse or alone, you simply need to move to the beat with your feet. The more you practice side move, the better you would become.
 2. The right turn
After mastering the fundamental side move, you can proceed to the right turn. If you are performing with your spouse, it’s essential to keep to the rhythm and signal to him/her once it is time to make the turn. As the leader during the dance, ensure that you lead with confidence. With a simple right turn, you can wow your audience.
 3. The classic Waltz
Don’t be surprised if a waltz song comes up during your wedding; it’s common. If you ever find yourself in such moments, you should perform a simple box step move, just like the PE ballroom dance during grade school. Don’t be shy to surprise your partner with a set of box steps and turning patterns such as the right turn.
 4. The Under-arm Turn
Getting your partner to turn right under your arm is one of the most exciting parts of a couple-dance. A single spin is simple and fun. Simply raise your arm over and turn your spouse around. Under-arm turn is an extension of classic Waltz, so feel free to perform this move after a few box steps – it’s a fascinating way to impress your spouse and your guests.
 5. The Dip
A fancy dip is like the cherry on your wedding cake, literarily. Endeavor to round up your exciting dance with an impressive dip. Although some tend to be fearful of getting a dip wrong, it is a fairly safe move as long as you use the right posture and position. Try the pose together with your partner before the big day; it will help boost your confidence.
Before we conclude, while dancing on your wedding day, feel free to express yourself with the basic steps above. As a beginner, you can get a dance instructor to practice the moves together with your spouse.

Samia Gamal – a famous Egyptian belly dancer and film actress in the 20th century
Over time, belly dancers have become omnipresent in movies; however, only a few have made their mark in the film industry. Notable among the few ones is Samia Gamal, who was once referred to as the Official Belly Dancer of Egypt.
Tumblr media
The real, full name of Samia Gamal was Zeinab Khalil Ibrahim Mahfouz. In 1942, Samia was born in Wana Beni Suef governorate, Egypt. During the period, BambaKashar and Shafiqa Al-Qibitiyya were the belly dancing stars in the country. At the age of 12, the talent of Samia as a belly dancer began to manifest. After the death of her father, she realized that her dream lies in Cairo.
First off, she worked as a seamstress before performing as one of the extras in BadiaMasabni dance troupe, who is the most famous artist during that time. BadiaMasabni was well-known for promoting several reputable belly dancers to stardom – and Samia was no exception. He didn’t only motivate and teach Samia, but also gave her “Samia Gamal” as her stage name. Also, Badia recommended her to the famous Isaac Dickson, who was a dance instructor. Isaac trained Samia until she emerged as one of the top dancers during the period.
Before long, Samia Gamal became an official representative of Egypt in many international forums, such as the Red Cross charity conference held in Paris during the 1940s. Among other dignitaries in the conference was King Farouk of Egypt.
It is worth mentioning that she wasn’t a traditional belly dancer as Samia Gamal distinguished herself through expressive body language and dancing. She skillfully combined the spirit of Western dancing techniques with Oriental dancing. At times, she would top them off with a few ballet movements. All of these special attributes made her performance unique among her contemporaries.
Aside from being a talented belly dancer, Samia Gamal left some remarkable legacy in the film industry. She performed the leading lady role in several Egyptian classic movies such as Red Lipstick alongside Naguib Al-Rihani (1946), Lady Ghost with Farid Al-Atrash (1949), the Hawk alongside Emad Hamdy (1950), the Count of Monte Cristo with Anwar Agdi (1950), the Monster with Anwar Wagdi (1956). Other movies where Samia performed include the Second Man (1959), SukkarHanem (1960), among others.
However, before Samia Gamal became a belly dance superstar and well-known name in the film industry, let’s consider her humble beginnings. Gamal worked as extras in the Determination (1939), a movie directed by Kamal Selim, before ever thinking of becoming an iconic actress. When she worked as extras, she would be paid only ten piastres per day. While nobody ever noticed her back then, she was using the opportunity to get familiar with the camera.
After several minor roles during the 1940S, she made the most of the opportunities that came her way as she featured in some movies such as the Triumph of Youth (1941), On the Stage of Life (1942), Love is Forbidden (1942), Les Miserables (1943), Bullet in the Heart (1944) and Who’s the Culprit (1944). By 1946, Samia Gamal has gained enough experience to act as the leading lady in movies. She performed her first leading role through an opportunity given by renowned Naguib Al-Rihani as she starred in Red Lipstick. Before long, she took another step forward when composer Farid Al-Atrash used her as the female star of Lifetime Sweetheart, a movie directed by Barakat. From there onward, Samia Gamal never stopped reaching new milestones and becoming famous both as a reputable belly dancer and a renowned actress.
