Costumes for five main cast members for the upcoming Lupin III themed Kabuki stage play have been revealed - and my word, they are all looking the part!
The play, which is due to open in Japan this coming December (2023), has all-male actors for the main five (a Kabuki tradition), featuring:
Lupin III: 片岡 愛之助 (Ainosuke Kataoka)
Goemon XIII: 尾上 松也 (Matsuya Onoe)
Jigen Daisuke: 市川 笑三郎 (Saburō Ichikawa)
Fujiko Mine: 市川 笑也 (Emiya Ichikawa)
Inspector Zenigata: 市川 中車 (Chūsha Ichikawa)
The photos, which were first shared by website Natalie on Tuesday morning, show some superb shots of the gang. They all look gorgeous. Personally, I think the team behind the play have done an incredible job at incorporating modern Edo Kabuki influence in their costumes, while still resembling the main cast of the show. The level of detail is impressive - from Goemon’s Part 2 outfit colours to Zenigata’s bold, notable eyelashes.
If you are able to catch this while it runs in Japan, you will no doubt be in for a treat. Tickets are already on sale, so act quickly if you wish to secure yourself a seat!

Really love their costume design! They did a great job with it! The pattern on the fan and crown is so elaborate and beautiful!
Kyoshi Warrior is like a mix of Samurai, Geisha and Kabuki. Their armor is like a Samurai, their fighting stance is elegant like Geisha and their "mask" is like the ornate face of Kabuki, meant to intimidate.
