Luz: You really wanna help me set up Hunter and Willow?
Gus: Look, this could either be a nice romantic moment for Willow or an embarrassing humiliating travesty for Hunter
Gus: Either way, I want a front row seat!

i just want to say i think of your Massimo/ LOVE RIVAL concept at least once a week... Massimo my guy... just here to cause some drama (in a cute sort of a way, no doubt)
Tumblr media
Kwoc my beloved you’re officially the second person to show interest in my little raccoon boy which means now I’m legally obligated to write him. In the meantime, I will leave you fun Massimo tidbits.
- Massimo fences HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts), basically XV-XVII century fencing with the big medieval swords. Yes, he does have a lot of jokes about his big sword.
- Despite his cool bad boy look, Massimo is a massive sword nerd. That’s how he got Seiji to tolerate him in the first place, they just bonded immediately over their insane amount of fencing history knowledge; Seiji on olympic/épée fencing and Massimo on his medieval swords and treaties.
- His full name is Massimo Angelo Bongiovanni. Nick keeps referring to him by pasta names (“Rigattoni”, “Linguini”, “Fetuccini”, “Ravioli”).
- Massimo takes a very bold and direct approach to flirting with Seiji, he is not subtle nor is he discrete. He’s also very hands on.
- Nick also keeps referring to HEMA as Hiccup fencing, out of spite. He actually thinks it’s really cool, he just doesn’t like Massimo.
- Nick liked Massimo at first until he started paying all too much attention to Seiji.
- Jesse would like to maul him.
- Nick and Jesse find Massimo’s bold approach to Seiji so offensive, they actually team up to sabotage his attempts.
- Massimo is actually either a Junior or a Senior, haven’t decided yet. I just find it funnier that way.
- Seiji actually finds all his sword facts so fascinating he is willing to overlook all the unnecessary proximity. He assumes it’s an italian thing and moves on with his life.
- Massimo likes to hang out with Seiji even if Seiji isn’t romantically interested in him.
- They all meet in a sort of fencing varieties camp where a bunch of kids from different fencing disciplines are put together so they can learn the other disciplines and get to try the different weapons. I’m not sure if this is a thing that gets done, I made it up for fic reasons.
- Massimo also likes to wake up at the crack of dawn to train, which leads to him sharing the space with Seiji in the mornings. He also keeps trying to get Seiji’s attention so he keeps distracting him, which annoys Dmytro. Dmytro and Massimo’s coach spend most of the camp cussing each other out (very funny to me personally). Massimo has a lot of Romeo and Juliet jokes about himself and Seiji that he finds very funny.
- I was listening to “Rock you like a Hurricane” while drawing this, so that is now his theme song.

I love thinking of how complex and convoluted Jesse and Seiji's relationship had been and how terrible of a heartbreak Seiji must have endured to run all the way to france but honestly? Considering they were 14?? Big chances of it having gone down like
J: Hey, did you tell [name] we're dating?
S: Yes?
J: Why?
S: Because we are?
J: Dude, no we are not lol?
And if I were 14 and that happened to me and I had the chance I WOULD have gone off to France for a year and then changed schools. With Seiji's ego I'd never recover from it lmao

@atomimperatrix asked about the clothes in this drawing and I said i would make a post about it. Months later, here it is.
Harvard is the only one who wears clothes that don't show off despite being rich too, and Seiji is not showing his wealth as obviously as Jesse, Aiden or Bobby, but then the watch betrays him.

Johanna the Mad and CS Pacat are truly masters of their crafts, and I really believe that every aspect of Fence and the symbolism we see in it is intentional. Each detail was deliberately put in–there’s a reason for everything. So why make the crests of MacRob and Lowther such a perfect match for each other if not to hint at a romance across the two teams?
Tumblr media
They’re literally broadcasting their intention to us, I mean come on, a bird and a tree? A TREE? A place where birds find refuge?? It’s so obvious. And the only characters that make sense to feature in this titular romance are, of course, Hector and Kyle. Think about it.

headcanon of jesse and seiji's relationship
[spoilers of some interactions in redemption and striking distance]
so first of all, Jesse Coste and Seiji Katayama. They were something, according to Seiji, and because I love these two to an unhealthy amount, I will be sharing my headcanon/theory on their relationship, past and present.
disclaimer: this is my take on their relationship and slight copium. Lots of headcanon stuff up ahead y'all.
Let's talk about Jesse Coste first. Man, this guy. I've seen buttloads of posts about how he doesn't reciprocate Seiji's feelings for him, regardless of whether or not he's aware of it. Going off of Jesse's brief monologue in Rise(I assume it was Jesse, the context fits), it was said that he'd finally found 'someone [he] could share everything with', this implies that Jesse had thought of Seiji as an equal, or a friend somewhere in their childhood. They very likely had an intimate relationship with some romance sprinkled in, but obviously there was a lack of communication that likely caused a rift between them.
Lots of people say that Jesse knows how Seiji feels about him and takes advantage of that, but I like to think that Jesse, though he's super popular, is the densest mf when it comes to romance. For example, when he and Seiji have close moments, he'll feel his heart speed up but he doesn't know why he feels funny around Seiji so he puts up a facade. He's secretly insecure when it comes to Seiji because Seiji doesn't see him as 'the number one' as much as other people, and he's afraid that he won't be enough for him. In Striking Distance, he tries to convince Seiji to go to Exton with him because though he feels insecure around Seiji, he's lonely without someone to stand besides him, and he doesn't know how to express that.
Jesse also doesn't know that his feelings aren't unrequited, but since the first time they met, Seiji's been the only one who could satisfy him and meet him at his level, and so he unconsciously puts him on a pedestal in his heart. He thinks Seiji is too good for him in some ways so he makes sure he's the best at fencing, but this turns to be slightly toxic as he then never addresses Seiji as his equal. From Seiji's POV, it obviously seems like Jesse is dismissing him because Jesse thinks Seiji will never be as good as him, but Jesse was raised with the goal of being number one so he's scared that Seiji will overtake him and leave him, and he's scared of being replaced by someone who can be more to Seiji than him.
For Seiji, he doesn't know how Jesse feels, but he admires Jesse a lot. When Jesse is asking Seiji to fence him in Redemption, Seiji looks mortified and scared- scared because he wants to say yes but he wants to know who he is without Jesse. He has/had feelings for Jesse, but he also thinks that it's unrequited and Jesse won't ever reciprocate that and see him as an equal. Obviously we don't know what happened at the match that made Seiji move to France, but miscommunication or the lack of communication on their feelings in general is likely to have caused it. They clearly share some similar sentiments about each other, but neither side is able to open up about it.
Seiji had reminisced that it was easy with Jesse. It was easy because no words were ever needed to express themselves. They knew each other so well to the point that a short match was more than enough to convey their thoughts and feelings, just not love. Seiji isn't good with social interactions, so it helped that they didn't need to talk as much since their fencing did most of the talking. If one side felt upset, they'd have a short match of first to 3 points and the other would know what's wrong by the end of it.
Then the romance came. Neither knew how to express it through fencing, and perhaps Seiji wanted to tell Jesse that "You can't keep pushing me around" and that he has feelings for him, but through a language only the both of them knew. Fencing.
Seiji's parry came late in the match, similar to how he wasn't able to speak about his opinions in time. In Rise, Seiji says that "I must have practiced that parry a thousand times". Like previously mentioned, fencing was their way of communicating and confiding in each other. Seiji practiced that parry so many times because aside from wanting to perfect that technique, he wanted to stand up for himself and also express his love, but it wasn't delivered as well as he would've liked it. He could've left because he was scared that Jesse didn't like him back, and he has doubts constantly.
When Jesse asks for him to go back, a part of Seiji wants to follow him because he wants to believe that Jesse misses him, and he does, but like I said, Jesse Coste may be the fencing champion but he's failing in figuring out his feelings. But Seiji also doesn't want to go with him because he's scared that their relationship has changed, that Jesse won't see him in the same way now because Seji left so suddenly.
TL;DR: they are both dense idiots, i love them, they love each other but no one can talk properly so their relationship is a slightly toxic, two-sided unrequited love thing with a slightly unhealthy dose of miscommunication.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk. *bows

I know how we’re familiar with the kit and kaboodle of Kaworu misconceptions, but there’s another one that flies around every so often we should address too. Kaworu’s attraction by critics under a certain lens is sometimes argued as him being attracted to ‘broken people’ which in and of itself holds other troubling implications. It vilifies the neurodivergent. It damns the people with deep mental scars and emotional baggage, because we often hold the fear that there’s no way we can be loved. Should be loved. That we’re too high maintenance. That our trauma doesn’t exist on anyone’s timetable and that we aren’t people but walking burdens.
Evangelion’s audience is suffused with people during critical periods. People processing grief. People still in abusive environments. What idea are you trying to convey when you argue that if you’re deeply traumatized that people who love you aren’t truly able to? That in a world where abuse does happen and people often get away with proverbial murder, that no one exists for you out there? Even though this is the very same material that tells you that anywhere can be paradise?  That even the little things can change someone’s world completely? That empathy is integral?  That love is a powerful thing held by anyone?
Did we not watch the same show?
