Ok, What in the absolute Fuck.
So, I only just recently learned about the "Kids Online Safety Act."
What. An Absolute. Load. Of BULLSHIT.
This isn't PROTECTING kids! This is putting them in more danger!
God damn, if this fucking bill ACTUALLY gets passed...
Tumblr media
Just... LOOK at this! What kind of LUNATIC thinks this will be ok? You're telling me these IDIOTS are SO stuck in the past they're going to try and CENSOR the FUCKING INTERNET? If you care SOOO much about Kids being SAFE, THEN FUCKING LEAVE THEM ALONE! GOD!
STOP KOSA. PLEASE. NOTHING GOOD IS GOING TO COME FROM THIS.

Can we win and stop the Kosa bill if we continue to fight?
If we continue to fight, say loudly that we are against the bill and don’t panic, we might be able to stop the Kosa bill.I understand everyone is afraid, but we shouldn't give up or say goodbye. If we want to save the Internet, we really will do everything possible so that the bill does not pass and become official law.
If we want to continue to protect the Internet or prevent them from banning TikTok (I don’t like tik tok, but still I’m against the ban), we must continue to fight
We must do everything we can to stop this.We must continue to call/email/fax the senator and reps.We must make a loud noise and say loudly that we are against this.

Okay so this morning I saw on the news "the government taking steps to protect children online" and I PANICKED cause I thought it was KOSA, but it wasn't KOSA! It was this thing called Know2Protect. I don't know all the details, but from what I heard on the news (CBS), Know2Protect is basically a program that's meant to TEACH children and adults how to protect themselves online (as opposed to KOSA, which wants to censor the internet). I'm not entirely certain about this thing, but! Know2Protect SOUNDS like it might be the answer to our problem! It's what we wanted, right? For the government to teach people how to protect themselves from online predators instead of censoring the internet? Edit: THIS HAS ALMOST 200 NOTES???

The main thing about KOSA that has me pretty convinced that it won’t pass is how blatantly unconstitutional it is.
It violates
A) Freedom of speech/expression
and
b) Freedom of the press (which encompasses anything published ANYWHERE including online)
ALSO judicial review plays a HUGE part in it seeing as if a law is proven to oppose the constitution, legally the constitution RULES OVER SAID LAW.
So yeah, KOSA is unconstitutional bullshit, and probably won’t pass

This is your daily reminder to stop kosa. Email your reps or go to badinternetbills.com/ and it will send the email for you. You can also edit what it will say in the email.
Also share information about kosa and how to stop it with everyone, you could reblog or just post your own post on your blog or text a friend. Even telling one person makes a difference.

Some lady named Christine McComas sent me this email begging me to sign the pro-KOSA petition, saying that one of her kids died from cyberbullying and that I should support KOSA, no matter what...to which I immediately noped the fuck out of it in addition to deleting that message because I knew better about the harmful effects of KOSA than she can ever hope to know about.
So please, if you get emails like this and the sender(s) keep begging you to support KOSA, say no and delete those messages immediately! Because it's not about protecting kids from even the nastiest of all cyberbullies; all it does instead is allow parents to control their kids and which websites the kids can and cannot access!

what also infuriates me about shit like kosa aside from how it takes away freedom of speech is that the sites these ass backwards adults want already exist. kids virtual worlds like animal jam, club penguin, moshi monsters, wizard101, that stuff existed and in some ways continues to exist.
they’re moderated by actual adults, and the most harm that actually comes out of it is kids falling for scam links.
many of the sites that used to be popular are dead and that’s worse than i think people realize. because of ipad elsagate stuff they’re unable to compete.
i hate to inform every neglectful parent ever (because let’s be honest if you’re for kosa you’re against the idea of parenting) but social media is not safe for your kid nor will it ever be. if you want them to actually be safe online, these virtual worlds encourage safety surprisingly enough. teach your kid to identify scams, how to report people, when to quit having conversations with strangers, and if your child is contacted by a creep, then fucking report it. that’s straight up why online virtual worlds succeed since they’re made to teach this stuff.
your only alternatives are kids tv channels, video games aimed at younger demographics, or no internet period. don’t go and point fingers at places whose websites aren’t made with children in mind.
and if you have a teenager on the web then just teach them basic internet safety. it’s that fucking simple.
oh and a reminder to all parents out there: censoring the internet to make it “kid friendly” means you can’t talk about your political mumbo jumbo or bash the damn liberals or post crappy facebook memes or go one minute without some lankeybox tier garbage being shoved in your face. you’ll be begging for the old internet back :)

If a worker who isn't the owner says ANYTHING similar to "I'm not really supposed to do this but-" and then does something that helps you, under no circumstances inform the business, including through reviews. You tell them that the worker was polite, professional, the very model of customer service and why you like to go there. You do not breathe a word of the rulebreaking.

I don't know how, but for bills like KOSA and related to be opposed, i think there should be a *huge* uproar against them. I feel it should have a bigger reach than the one there already is, which is quite big at the moment.
Remember what happened around 12 years ago with the SOPA bill and serveral websites expressing their opposition to the these bills, the protests and how it left the SOPA bill dead? I think there should be something similar, if it is possible.

Lemmings don’t jump off of cliffs unless they’re being chased. Frogs don’t stay in boiling water unless they’ve been lobotomized first. Crabs don’t pull each other back into the bucket unless they are desperately and randomly grabbing for anything to try to get themselves out, out of fear for their lives.
Actions taken in specific, negative conditions don’t exemplify the nature of all beings.
Before you mock a sheep for staying with the flock, ask what dogs nip at its heels when it strays too far, and what wolves wait just beyond the edge of the pasture.
