Everything we learned about August in season 3 does nothing to diminish my distaste for him as a person. If anything, finding out what he went through as a first year only makes what he did 10 times worse because he knows what it felt like to be bullied, pushed around and made to feel small, and yet he did it to Simon and Alexander and even Wille while getting some sick sense of power from it.

August is a piss person. And all the "nice" things he says and does for or in defense of Sara is because it serves what he wants, which is to get her back. We have never once seen him do something selfless or remotely nice that wasn't motivated by self interest or to ease his own guilt.

So no! Your villian origin story means absolutely nothing, and understanding where you came from doesn't excuse your shitty behaviour August.

So people have been talking about it being a Cressida teaching Eloise thing, the fan waving but it is established in the canon of the show that the fan waving as a flirtation technique is about drawing your suitor’s eyes to your bosom - so by that logic Cressida who is definitely paying more attention to Eloise than to the broken fourth wall is trying to draw Eloise’s attention to her figure.

BUT - Cressida’s fan is so big that it defeats the purpose, completely covering her chest - and by extension her heart.

So Theory: Cressida is torn between wanting to draw Eloise’s attention and wanting to protect her heart from said attention.

(Because she thinks an illicit relationship would never work when they are both destined to marry noblemen? Because she is mired in comphet and doesn’t realise she is sending mixed signals? Because she doesn’t know if Eloise actually likes her back? Because she is scared of giving her heart away to anyone?? Who knows)

I think the big thing that changed between them in my fic is that what happened to Eloise forced Anthony to view her as a person and not just a duty.

Which isn’t to say that I think that Anthony doesn’t think of his siblings as people, but I do think he thinks of them as part of his duties and responsibilities. Founding out he failed to protect Eloise from harm forces Anthony to step back and realise that the systems that he puts so much stock in are flawed, and treating his siblings like a duty he must perform has systemic flaws in doing what he actually wants to do which is protect them.

At the same time it also forced Anthony to reevaluate his relationship with Eloise, as she becomes a higher priority for him.

From Eloise’s perspective I think it helps her feel closer to Anthony to learn the lengths he goes to get justice for her, like yes in some ways Anthony is fulfilling his sanctioned patriarchal duty which is not nessecarily what Eloise wants on a Macro scale but on a personal one it means that her brother cares about her and cares that she got hurt.

And also I feel like the closer presence of undeniable sexual violence to Anthony’s home forces him to reflect on the pitfalls of his misogynistic society, while also drawing him closer to an Eloise who he is taking more seriously, who can point out the misogynistic traps those around fall into.

Basically in my universe it acts as a traumatic catalyst that brings Anthony and Eloise closer. (As well as Eloise to all her brothers)

Which isn’t to say that the closeness to her brothers is a silver lining that I have created out of writing a story where horrific things have happened to Eloise, but I was trying to be as realistic as possible and sometimes trauma bonds people!

I guess you asking about what I think their dynamic is like in the show without the extra trauma/secret that I inserted into my fic that lead to a deeper relationship between them?

Mostly I think their relationship is the kind of fond confusion you have for a sibling that you love but don’t really get. Anthony won’t have spent too much time with Eloise before becoming the Viscount having spent his adolescence at Eton, so missing her childhood.

I also don’t think Anthony understands how much Eloise is actually uncomfortable/insecure/angry in and about the system. For Anthony the system is what structures his life, and defines it, for Eloise the system is what represses and distresses her.

Yet I also can’t help but think they are alike in a lot of ways, they are both stubborn and principled, and a bit too inclined to think they are right about everything, it’s just that Anthony gets away with it because those are flaws that are kind of respected in Partriarchal figures, whereas Eloise’s stubbornness and self-righteousness is viewed as something really terrible because it directly conflicts with the way women are supposed to be.

So yeah I think that Anthony loves Eloise but isn’t very close to her because she is confusing, and also he doesn’t take her totally seriously. And Eloise loves Anthony but is likely frustrated and feels distant from him due to his embrace of the systems she rails against. And because of that neither of them see how alike they are.

Of course in my fic, what happened to Eloïse serves as a catalyst to make Eloise more vulnerable and in need of support, and also forces Anthony to look at the ways in which the system is corrupt

As for season 3 - I’m interested in seeing what they do with Cressida and Eloise, and I am still holding a tiny bit of hope that Penelope will face some sort of consequence for her actions before she gets her HEA, but I am not very excited to see Colin and Penelope because I don’t feel like the writers have put very much thought into the realities of the characters so 🤷‍♀️, yeah I’m excited for more Eloise, Benedict and Kanthony. I’m also excited to really met Fran for the first time properly but I do not have very high hopes for the season. I mean besides anything the repackaged DUFF storyline seems dumb and kind of offensive to the character that Penelope has been so far. Penelope isn’t a DUFF she just hasn’t been trying because she has been to busy being Lady Whistledown and mooning after Colin.
