harry 'good at picking names' potter
“Woss your name?” Stan persisted. “Neville Longbottom,” said Harry, saying the first name that came into his head. “So—so this bus,” he went on quickly, hoping to distract Stan, “did you say it goes anywhere?”
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
-
“This is the copy of Advanced Potion-Making that you purchased from Flourish and Blotts?” “Yes,” said Harry firmly. “Then why,” asked Snape, “does it have the name ‘Roonil Wazlib’ written inside the front cover?” Harry’s heart missed a beat. “That’s my nickname,” he said.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
-
“And your first name?” “I—Vernon. Vernon Dudley.” “Check the list, Scabior,” said Greyback, and Harry heard him move sideways to look down at Ron, instead.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
-
Harry crouched down so that Albus’s face was slightly above his own. Alone of Harry’s three children, Albus had inherited Lily’s eyes. “Albus Severus,” Harry said quietly, so that nobody but Ginny could hear, and she was tactful enough to pretend to be waving to Rose, who was now on the train, “you were named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them was a Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I ever knew.”

Tags: Non-Con, AU - Modern, Young Tom Riddle, Adult Harry Potter, Explicit Sexual Content, Extremely Underage, Obsessive Tom Riddle, Stalker Tom Riddle, Murder, Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour, Dead Dove: Do Not Eat
Summary:
It’s summer, which explains why Tom has all this free time to visit Harry’s flat and place of work, but it does not explain how Tom knows, with unerring accuracy, where Harry is at any given moment. Harry has checked with his coworkers—Tom only ever shows up at Fortescue’s when Harry is the manager on shift.
A/N: the same fic from this snippet!

Whenever I see someone thinking Harry's and Ron's grades are average or the guys are a bit dumb, I know it's coming from someone very young and unfamiliar with the British grade system of the 80s. I've just seen people complaining that Hermione received one EE as if it is horrible. Not in this specific universe!
Rowling clearly based Hogwarts' grading system on O-levels and A-levels from the 1980s, when she went to school. At that time, there was no grade inflation yet (nowadays, almost half of the year receives an A, and they have even added an A* to better differentiate).
The number of A grades was restricted to 10% at most. Students even got into universities with BBC grades, and B used to be something to be proud of.
A, B, and C assured you that you could continue with the subject at A-levels reserved for university applicants. I've seen our transfer students freaking out because of a B even though it's exceeding the expected amount of knowledge.
Hermione not receiving one O is just her not outshining everyone else in a single subject. Harry and Ron receiving that many good passes while not even studying half as much as Hermione is a tremendous achievement.
Moreover, let's remember that grades are correlated with high executive functioning skills, not high intelligence or general ability. The grade distribution was not bell-shaped the way the IQ is, even in the 80s. And the canon is pretty clear that magical power, at least at the school level, isn't either. So, the Golden Trio is brilliant; it's not 2024; they are in the UK. Let's mind the context while analyzing old books.

"if you ship this thing it's because you're too naĂŻve to understand that it's toxic and that you wouldn't like a relationship like this" actually it's because I see one of them as a mentos drop and the other as a bottle of coke zero and I want to watch the mess they'll be together

Harry is wiping down the front counter when he notices the boy staring at him.
Full blown, wide-eyed staring—an amusing expression on a precocious boy no older than twelve or thirteen at most, with warm brown irises and a head of cute, lolling curls that must have taken his mother ages to style.
“Hello,” Harry says in a friendly way, giving the boy a little wave.
No response, though a flush of pink seems to be steadily spreading across the boy’s soft, round cheeks.
“Are your parents around?” Harry asks, now cautious, glancing around the mostly deserted parlour.
The boy coughs. Clears his throat with a tiny harrumph that sounds more cricket than croak. “No.” His chest puffs up, his chin tilting with pride. “My father lets me go around on my own.”
Not a reassuring answer, though the use of ‘father’ draws Harry’s attention to the boy’s clothes—definitely posh, from his fancy branded polo shirt to his little leather loafers.
“Wow,” Harry says, pretending to be impressed. “You know, I think I used to run around my neighbourhood at your age.” The Dursleys never batted an eye if he came home late, and probably wouldn’t miss him if he never came home at all. “How old are you?”
The flush is more prominent now, a pretty pink-red that creeps towards the shirt collar.
“Fifteen.”
That’s absolutely a lie. Harry nods like this makes perfect sense, never mind that this kid probably couldn’t even sit in a booth without his feet dangling over the floor.
“Did you want some ice cream?” Harry asks. If he keeps this boy here, at least he’ll be safe until the parents show up.
“My name is Tom,” says the boy. His keen eyes narrow in on Harry’s plastic name tag. “Nice to meet you, Harry.”
The way Tom says his name—Harry—is perfectly polite. Rich kid with manners.

7 Snippet
Some fluff from the next chapter of 7! These two rot my teeth sometimes. 😅
Emotions that Harry doesn't even know how to go about putting a name to curl around his heart and squeeze. They fill him with love, until he's near to bursting with it. He presses his lips to Tom's in the gentlest of kisses, and a quiet thrill tugs at him when Tom kisses him back. Ever since this timeline resumed, Tom has been so tentative when it comes to Harry and intimate matters. He'll hold hands with Harry—he'll embrace him—he will tell Harry that he loves him. But so rarely do they kiss. And, even though they share a bed, they never
Almost—almost as if Tom is afraid his touch will corrupt Harry. Or something. Which is completely—
"Even without our bond, I can hear you thinking," Tom whispers into the only inch of space separating them. His breath is a warm, sweet wash over Harry's lips. "I miss you," Harry murmurs. "That's all." Tom could easily say, But I am right here. He doesn't. He puts his arms around Harry—tucks Harry's head beneath his chin. Harry buries his nose into the warm skin of Tom's neck. He tries not to cling, but he doesn't think he succeeds very well. He can feel Tom's heart beating against his own
Tom smells like soap, and it closes around Harry in a comforting musk
They're asleep within minutes, their gentle breathing the only sound in the room.

Just so you all realize and see it in action:
This fic was finished in 2015 and the author hadn't had a comment since 2016. They appreciated the comment even though it was just emoji hearts, they were happy and surprised to receive love on their older fic.
Don't stop commenting just because it's an old piece or because you think you can't come up with something smart, witty or thoughtful to say.
Just say anything. Just put an emoji. Just let them know you appreciate their work.
