Cinemawins is way better than Cinemasins. Idk if this take is controversial or not but theres already so much negativity surrounding media and pop culture that just hearing someone gush about the good in a movie feels so much more satisfying than hearing someone trash on one. Plus I find that the analyses of what a movie does right are usually more interesting than the analyses of what a movie does wrong. I may leave a cinemasins video with a few laughs, but a cimemawins video usually ends up teaching me something about filmography or storytelling and how the movie does that thing correctly. I dont care about what cliches are overused, I care about moments of symbolism in a movie that I never noticed before, or a type of shot zoom or cut that made a scene more impactful in a way I definitely felt but never fully registered. I love making fun of bad movies but I will ALWAYS enjoy gushing about good media more than dogging on bad media. Positivity is important.

I make a Walt Disney Animation Studios movies tier list
Tumblr media
S tier are my favourite Disney movies and I decided I would just keep it as a top five. Beauty and the Beast is good enough quality wise be S tier as well and can basically be considered number 6.
A tier are great movies that I love and rewatch a lot. A lot of them are pretty interchangeable with each other.
B tier are pretty good moves.
C tier is a mix of movies I think are just okay (ie: Lady and the Tramp, Pinocchio, Saludos Amigos, The Rescuers movies) or movies that are a mixed bag for me (the Frozens, music compilations, The Black Cauldron). And then Pocahontas gives me the ick (for obvious reasons) but I kinda like the music and animation so I wasn't fully sure where to place that one.
D tier are movies I don't really like either because they're boring (Cinderella, Sword in the Stone), problematic (Peter Pan, Raya and the Last Dragon), or sloppy (Ralph Wrecks the Internet, Home on the Range).
F tier are movies I prefer to forget exist.

Haven't watched Wish.
Gonna go out on a limb and guess that the Asha/StarBoy demo song animatics I've been watching are better than anything in the movie though.
I do have to ask though: Did Disney really take this clearly meant to be a love song, change a couple of the lyrics and make it into a weird ass mentor and apprentice song??????

People: Disney's quick/three day romances aren't realistic.
Me, inwardly: Neither are mermaids, genies, fairies, talking animals, magical transformations, ice powers, or magical healing hair. Maybe it's not always conveyed the best but it's escapist fantasy and not meant to be idolized, just enjoyed with the knowledge that it's fantasy.
Me out loud: Watch something other than Disney then.

I know what I'm about to talk about isn't Disney, so off topic from this blog, but I wasn't sure where else to talk about this and this is a big deal to me: Kung Fu Panda 4.
Tumblr media
I love the first three Kung Fu Panda movies. 1 and 2 are among my top 5 Dreamworks movies, with 2 being one of my favourite movies of all time. And while 3 isn't quite amazing, it's still really great and in my opinion, pretty underrated. Based on the first three movies, I honestly have no problem calling it my favourite animated film franchise of all time. If you'd told me four or five years ago that Kung Fu Panda 4 was happening, I would've been ecstatic, as the series was rumoured to be planned as a six film series.
But... seven years after the third movie ended, I... I guess I'm kind of over it now? I remember being absolutely ecstatic when the third movie's trailer dropped because FINALLY they were going to answer that cliffhanger that the second movie had left us on for years and while KFP3 had some issues, I still considered it a satisfying conclusion that could have and seemingly did end the franchise. But now... KFP4's trailer dropped and... I didn't experience that same endorphin rush that I did with KFP3's trailer. Maybe I'm just more world weary now than I was in 2015 (especially since it's the Christmas season right now), but something about this new trailer just felt... weird. As did the rumours about what the story was before said trailer dropped. I mean, bringing the series' past villains back from the dead to fight Po again? That just sounded... well, silly and I prayed that wouldn't actually be the plot.
Seeing the way it was actually done though with the new villain seemingly stealing the old villains' chi, which directly connects with the third movie's lore, did make it feel more natural but everything else about the trailer was just weirdly off. "Where are the Furious Five?" Was the most obvious question to me. They're Po's friends, why wouldn't they accompany him on a big dangerous journey? Are they being intentionally excluded? Why is this weird fox/wolf looking thing voiced by that one celebrity everyone hates going with him instead of Po's friends? Why does the animation look different but not in a "oh, it's been improved way!" but more like a "this looks more like those Kung Fu Panda TV shows I never bothered to watch outside of clips on YouTube" way. Is it because Ruby Gillman bombed and Dreamworks are in a tight place financially? Still haven't watched that btw is it any good? Was it a stylistic choice? I have so many questions but not the kind of questions that get me excited for the movie like I was for KFP3, they're questions that make me... concerned and confused. I love this series dearly and I want more than anything for this movie to be good but... I can easily see a universe where it sucks and bombs and ruins the series' reputation like Shrek the Third did to the Shrek series. And that would be genuinely tragic to me.
So please, Kung Fu Panda 4 be good.

So Ember fell in love first right? She fell in love during the airball game? We can all agree? That was when she felt that "first spark" so to speak?
