I could just imagine Severus finally staying one morning.
It wasn't necessarily on purpose. He wasn't the type to whisper sweet nothings to lovers in the morning. He didn't find comfort in leaving strings frayed, in opening doors he couldn't close. His woes were directed toward y/n for the night in hopes of avoiding sentimentality, something they knew all too well. And it wasn't like they ever held a grudge against him for that. Even a stranger might be able to recognize the lack of emotionality Severus displayed, the sheer apathy he was so well-known for. They of all people sensed his life was far too complicated to add more formulas to the equation, much less so risk the progress he'd built up by offering any more than moonlit closeness.
They'd learned to be content with what they'd been given. His touch could be marring one day, then soft and attentive the next, either of which was perfectly fine with them. The fact that he was willing to put his trust in someone to keep an ounce of his sanity - or the simple fact that it was them he'd chosen to bed - they knew it was worth it. They'd came to terms with it, even.
So to see Severus across the mattress beside them, still in a deep sleep, the mess of their sheets draped across his nude form? It was mesmerizing. They were so sure he'd be gone by the time they woke just like always, that he would have been long up and running before the morning sun bled through any curtains, and it was by no means the fault of anyone there, but they were so enthralled by his appearance they weren't quite sure what to do.
He looked so.. peaceful. His brows were relaxed, his jaw slack, pale lips parted, his chest rising and falling slower than they'd ever seen.
The man was a stress machine through and through; his hand was perpetually clenched most days, white-knuckled and clutching his sleeve's hem more often than not; but now they were partially open, his fingertips lighter from the early morning chill bouncing off cobbled walls.
They would've linked their hand in his to warm it if they hadn't been so afraid to wake him and ruin the moment, so instead they moved to watch him rest with sleepy movements and glass eyes, placing the blanket's edge above his torso ever so carefully so he might get some proper rest.
He would wake eventually, but they were worried to ruin this newfound trust for themselves even if it was unintentional, so for the time being it was decided that they'd just go back to sleep and hope to wake beside him once again.

I wonder if the Dursleys were gonna have another kid, and then didn't because of Harry. Like that doesn't excuse any of their behaviour, and Harry isn't at fault - but I just wonder.
Without Harry... would they be an ideal little family in their own horrible little bubble? A passionate housewife, a devoted husband, a pampered little boy - maybe another child too...
It's their own fault they couldn't have that with Harry.
...Oh my god what if they treated Harry like they treat Dudley
