Here’s the thing:
Jaskier doesn’t have a horse. I mean yeah, technically he has Pegasus but in nw and most fanon media he doesn’t. The man walks at the same pace as a horse every day for twenty years. And I’m sure Geralt let him put SOME things on Roach, but probably not much. She’s Geralt’s horse and needs to carry his things AND Geralt, no one wants her to be over extended with bard stuff. So that means Jaskier carries all his stuff himself which is AT MINIMUM, his lute, notebooks, probably like 3 sets of relatively complex performing outfits and road clothes, all his fancy cosmetic stuff, a bedroll, and his METAL coin money. He also probably has first aid things like bandages and potions, frivolous things like baubles and jewelry, food, water, and probably other bard stuff like spare strings and such.
Yeah, Jask is depicted as traveling without bags but that’s just not possible. He probably carries his own essentials and as someone who backpacks— that alone is usually 20+ lbs. WITH modern technology aimed at making things lighter. Thats not counting all the fancy stuff he’s prone to and his career tools. Jaskier is probably hauling like 40-50lbs or more of stuff EVERY DAY while mostly roughing it off the land and keeping pace with a man on horseback. Oh, and this is WHILE SINGING AND TALKING the entire time. Can you imagine this man’s lung capacity? To sing and talk constantly while exerting himself?
This is all to say: Jaskier is strong as fuck and fit as hell. The thing is though, he probably doesn’t even recognize it. Yeah, he probably knows he’s got the muscle and such, but he still is largely perceived as a delicate person. He PROJECTS being delicate. Being fragile and pampered and in need of the finer things. He projects capable, but not strong. This. Is. Hilarious.
Jaskier, having already walked 12 miles at a moderate incline carrying 40lbs of stuff without breaking a sweat (it’s barely past midday): Geralt I am FRAGILE. I cannot POSSIBLY walk through this mud. (It’s like a 3 ft section) I’m not a rugged mountain man like you, I’m simply not BUILT for this!
Geralt, staring at Jaskier who’s as burly as most Witchers and has walked the path w/o Witcher training for over a decade: hm

I saw a post saying that Boromir looked too scruffy in FotR for a Captain of Gondor, and I tried to move on, but I’m hyperfixating. Has anyone ever solo backpacked? I have. By the end, not only did I look like shit, but by day two I was talking to myself. On another occasion I did fourteen days’ backcountry as the lone woman in a group of twelve men, no showers, no deodorant, and brother, by the end of that we were all EXTREMELY feral. You think we looked like heirs to the throne of anywhere? We were thirteen wolverines in ripstop.
My boy Boromir? Spent FOUR MONTHS in the wilderness! Alone! No roads! High floods! His horse died! I’m amazed he showed up to Imladris wearing clothes, let alone with a decent haircut. I’m fully convinced that he left Gondor looking like Richard Sharpe being presented to the Prince Regent in 1813

And then rocked up to Imladris a hundred ten days later like

steve and robin’s perfect day together:
10:00am: get breakfast at a diner (split their meals in half to share) (robin always gets orange juice and complains because her mouth tastes like toothpaste)
10:45am: talk really loudly about their personal lives (a little quieter about robin’s crush)
11:00am: get asked to leave the diner
11:35am: hangout in robin’s room to read magazines and gossip
12:40pm: take a nap in robin’s bed
1:57pm: wake up
2:00pm: bicker
2:10pm: have lunch with the buckley’s (robin mom gives steve some of her homemade soap that he will Not be using 💜)
3:00pm: go to the gas station to get snacks
3:20pm: go on a little drive (windows down, music UP)
3:22pm: bicker
3:50pm: pull over to sit on the hood of steve’s car and talk
4:40pm: grocery shopping (take turns pushing each other in the cart) (steve gets some of his shopping for free bc the grocery store ladies love him)
5:35pm: go back to steve’s house so he can cut her bangs in his bathroom
6:00pm: make dinner (no casualties!) (tastes good-ish)
7:15pm: bicker for so long they end up missing the showing of the movie they were going to see
7:30pm: lay on steve’s bedroom floor and listen to music
9:27pm: fierce rock paper scissors battle to decide who gets to shower first (robin wins, steve looks at her like 🥺 but she holds firm)
9:35pm: take turns showering (robin uses her mom’s soap and so much of steve’s shampoo)
10:36pm: steve’s skincare routine (robin ransacks his drawers for clothes while he’s distracted)
11:00pm: sleep :) (steve ends up on the floor bc robin starfishes)

Modern AU, Eddie and Steve are together and live together, Steve is a paramedic and Eddie is a bartender + fairly successful streamer. He usually plays games where you can create your own character, or at least customize it.
Steve doesn't watch any of the streams, but he's very supportive of Eddie's career.
What he doesn't know is: Eddie always creates a character based on Steve. Always.
Mass Effect? Commander Steve Shepard, brown eyes, hair and tons of bitching from Eddie during the stream that the faces are all ugly and they don't do Steve justice. He goes for the destroy ending because he'll never, EVER have Steve die in a game for good.
Dragon Age: Inquisition? Warrior Steve to the rescue. He also romances Dorian because "of course he would date a sassy gay, duh."
Baldur's Gate 3? Paladin Steven with Oath of Devotion, doing as much good as possible, keeping Gale from becoming a horrible godly being, becoming besties with Karlach and romancing Astarion because "that's just who Steve is, he believes in people even when they don't."
Steve doesn't learn about this for years. But when he does, he completely loses it at a sentence that Eddie always uses to end his stream: "Be good, guys. Always ask: WWSD - What Would Steve Do?"
And yes. There is merch with that.
