idgaf what cutesy shit tumblr tries to pull for April Fools, this is still the same website where the multimillionaire CEO stalked a trans woman across multiple platforms because she bruised his fragile ego, where a moderator took bribes to delete accounts, where moderation disproportionately targets black, transfem, and pro-Palestinian bloggers, where literal hardcore heterosexual pornography can be both posted without consequence and actively advertised to users while trans women posting transition timelines get hit with the banhammer, where outright hate speech goes unpunished but an obvious shitpost results in the associated account's termination, and where its leadership advertises it as the queerest site on the internet while doing all of the above. No amount of silly goofy gimmicks will change that.

Would you ever come back to Tumblr? (Say if their AI policy changes or if the other sites also succumb to it?)
I'd say no, even if they change policies, because they proven they aren't worthy of trust. If the ownership and staff changed it would be a different thing, but it doesn't seem wise to come back because people who were willing to sell out and harrass users aren't going to do it again because they pinky promise they won't.
For now I will keep my sideblog but without writing posts, because I follow many people that are posting resources and news about Palestine and I don't want to lose that connection, but I won't be commenting about fandom stuff and sure as fuck won't post drawings and writing.
Who knows, maybe I will start a blog specifically to fuck with midjourney scrapers by posting nonsense writing and images.

Update on this blog's status
After careful thought, I decided I'm moving this blog to Pillowfort and Cohost.
Tumblr has shown an astonishing lack of respect for creatives and basic human decency for its users in general. This blog is essentially a repository of ideas for the fandom, a jumping point for people interact and create. I dont want to stimulate the use of a platform that shits on the behavior I'm trying to encourage.
New platforms suffer while there isn't a solid userbase to keep the flow of posts. I believe a blog like DP can do a lot of good to encourage engagement and keep these communities alive. I cordially invite you to follow me.
Some of you may say this gesture is pointless. You are entitled to your opinion. However, I don't believe in short bursts of outrage followed by acceptance. Dishonest companies expect them and thrive on it. They know everyone will forget after two weeks. I refuse to do that. So I'm choosing a more drastic path.
Maybe Pillowfort and Cohost will fall to AI bullshit, maybe all content will be scraped regardless. But I will dig my heels and make every step as painful as possible.
So what next?
I will slowly feed old posts into the new blogs. This will give people the chance to see stuff from the very beginning , since I never self-reblog. It also serves me well for the moment, since I'm also pretty busy. Not everything will make it, of course, because some posts were made as a response to what was going on at the time. But don't worry, Tardif and the Baby Saga will return. I also don't exclude the possibility of dropping new stuff, especially if people are interacting and thus giving me ideas.
Note that I've changed the blog name to Darkest Vault. The word "prompt" now is so closely linked to AI prompting that I've been uncomfortable with the title of Darkest Prompts for a while. Now is probably the best time to change it.

ive been moving over to cohost and i like it a lot!! it includes features like asks and side blogs while also being much more homey, it reminds me of how tumblr felt like when i was younger ngl
i find it easier to like. talk to people there. it’s smaller and it encourages it more without having an algorithm or emphasis on being big
Thanks for the feedback :) From the screenshots I'd seen I thought it was a sort of weird tumblr-twitter mashup, which wasn't particularly appealing, but I'm willing to give it a whirl. I will talk about what I will do more extensively in a bit, I just didn't have the time to do anything blog-related this week.

Please be aware that the "opt-out" choice is just a way to try to appease people. But Tumblr has not been transparent about when has data been sold and shared with AI companies, and there are sources that confirm that data has already been shared before the toggle was even provided to users.
Also, it seems to include data they should not have been able to give under any circumstance, including that of deactivated blogs, private messages and conversations, stuff from private blogs, and so on.
Do not believe that "AI companies will honor the "opt-out request retroactively". Once they've got their hands on your data (and they have), they won't be "honoring" an opt-out option retroactively. There is no way to confirm or deny what data do they have: The fact they are completely opaque on what do they currently "own" and have, means that they can do whatever they want with it. How can you prove they have your data if they don't give everyone free access to see what they've stolen already?
So, yeah, opt out of data sharing, but be aware that this isn't stopping anyone from taking your data. They already have been taking it, before you were given that option. Go and go to Tumblr's Suppport and leave your Feedback on this (politely, but firmly- not everyone in the company is responsible for this.)
Finally: Opt out is not good under any circumstance. Deactivated people can't opt out. People who have lost their passwords can't opt out. People who can't access internet or computers can't opt out. People who had their content reposted can't opt out. Dead people can't opt out. When DeviantArt released their AI image generator, saying that it wasn't trained on people who didn't consent to it, it was proven it could easily replicate the styles of people who had passed away, as seen here. So, yeah. AI companies cannot be trusted to have any sort of respect for people's data and content, because this entire thing is just a data laundering scheme.
Please do reblog for awareness.

About dd2, do you think the warlord collected reynauld's ears before putting him in the cage?
I can't believe I hadn't thought of that. It's possible, it's not like we can know while he's wearing the helmet. It's equaly possible the warlord only intended to collect his "trophy" after whatever he was keeping Reynauld in a cage for - my guess is that he was planning a public, gruesome execution of "the last crusader". But it's not unlikely that he would have had a bit of fun torturing Reynauld before that. At least he got all his limbs.

DD be like:
"Greetings! I'm Reynauld, and this is my boyfriend Dismas, and this is his girlfriend Audrey, and this is her girlfriend Paracelsus, and this is her boyfriend Baldwin, and this is his boyfriend Sarmeni, and this is his girlfriend Junia, and this-"
"And this is Barristan, he's our angry grandpa who yells a lot"
Wait, why does Barristan not get to fuck? He's old, not dead.

So, here are my thoughts so far. I encourage everyone to be vocal about Tumblr staff's mismanagement, including and not limited to the transphobia, racism, harassment and potential Midjourney deal. We should also be pressuring Automattic, the company that owns tumblr.
I will work on getting a pillowfort account. Hopefully it will be an unnecessary emergency plan. I would also like to have your opinions on this "cohost" platform I heard about.
I still want to think more calmly about the future of the blog and its focus. Please continue to provide helpful feedback.
So, about the news that Tumblr might sell content to Midjourney AI
From the beginning, Darkest Prompts was a way for me to share ideas with the fandom, to offer them inspiration so they may write and draw and just have fun. I wanted to foster creativity. To hear that this creativity could very well be used to feed genAI is incredibly disheartening. I already see people wanting to pull out of the platform.
I want to consult with you guys on what I should do going forward. Is there even anywhere to run? Is this project even worth it if "prompts" are now a shortcut to steal art instead of shared inspiration? How do we stop feeding the machine?

the friendship between Sarmenti and Amani could not even be pulled from my cold dead hands because i have superglued it to my hands. they're both entertainers that have been abused by their audience and will no longer take shit from anyone. Sarmenti can reliably get a laugh out of her and shows her some sleight-of-hand tricks she can do, Amani teaches him some of the songs and dances from her homeland, and when in a team together they dance and bleed and blight their enemies to death.
You understand my vision.
I will add: I think they both built a shell to protect themselves from the harsh world but still have a softer side, the part of them that still loves poetry and music and dance and beauty. Together they could develop an indirect language that lets them safely explore their passions again. To take back their talents for themselves, not for the pleasure of others.
Both know what is to be treated like an object and the incredible pain it took to find freedom. Both understand violence was their salvation. They are scarred and traumatized but still hanging there. I believe they can help each other <3

Apparently in DD2 the Bounty Hunter will just join the party instead of replacing someone if there's only one person left. I've imagined him spotting a lone and shaken Bonnie huddled in an inn and going full The Last Of Us with her ever since.
He'd straight up grab that kid by the scruff of the neck, put her in his backpack and proceed to kill everything in his way.

love the movie post, and i love the mental image of Reynauld and Baldwin watching the “King Baldwin Beats the Shit out of Raynald de Châtillon” scene together 💀
I should have added that they are crying for distinctly different reasons 😏

What sort of movies would the gang like watching?
Alhazred: Artsy and aesthetic movies. Sighs over "The Color of Pomegranates". Nobody else gets it.
Bigby: Historical dramas and thrillers. Liked "The Name of the Rose" but thinks the book is better.
Reynauld and Baldwin: Both enjoy historical epics. Cried watching "Kingdom of Heaven" together. Don't tell anyone.
William: Film noir, in particular John Wick movies. He's very invested in the revenge for the dog.
Junia: Watched "The Shape of Water" and found the fishman very charming. Don't tell anyone.
Bonnie and Missandei: Don't touch them. They watched "The Fox and the Hound" and are going through emotions. Have Ghibli marathons together.
Audrey and Barristan: Psychological and political dramas. Anything portraying complex social interactions.
Boudica: Usually follows anyone watching something fun and action-packed, but somehow became entranced by old Japanese samurai movies.
Josephine: Claims not to like movies, but in truth likes some real fucked up shit she hides from everyone.
Dismas: Varies from fun adventure to drama. Has a thing for pirate movies. Made a real attempt to understand Alhazred's movies.
Paracelsus: Old school horror and anything with Christopher Lee. Has marathoned "The Lord of the Rings" extended cuts and making-ofs.
Margaret: Documentaries about weapons, nature and military history.
Tardif: Westerns (or any Lone Badass story, really) and dark comedies.
Sahar: Watches swashbuckler movies just to mock the swordfighting.
Damian: Movies are of the devil.
Amani: Pays more attention to music, staging and costume design than plot.
Sarmenti: Has a fairly eclectic taste, still insults everybody else's choice just to be a little shit.

Dismas: Wow, Rey, that's a great sword you got there! Reynauld: Oh, it's not, in fact. Dismas: What? Did the blacksmith swindle you? Reynauld: By no means! It's just that it's a longsword, not a greatsword. Dismas: Did you want it to be short? Reynauld: No, I requested a longsword. It's a good sword. Dismas: Just not a great sword. Reynauld: Yes. Dismas: I don't follow. Reynauld: A longsword is not a greatsword. Dismas: Wouldn't it better to have a short sword instead, then? Reynauld: No. Dismas: Why? Reynauld: They lack reach. I much prefer longswords. Dismas: Even if they aren't great swords. Reynauld: Yes. Dismas: But short swords can be great swords? Reynauld: Of course not! What a laughable notion! Dismas: I'm about to stab you with *my* short sword. Reynauld: That's a dagger. And that's why Dismas became afflicted and tried to stab Reynauld.
