The Beast of the Land Between the Lakes is a creature that supposedly resides on a peninsula between Kentucky and Tennessee. It is typically described as a wolfman - it stands 7 feet tall with sharply clawed hands. Most witnesses vividly remember its glowing red eyes. According to reports, there is also a rotting sort of smell that accompanies it. Its loud and eerie howl reportedly gives the feeling of intense dread and causes dogs in the area to cower in fear. The beast has many stories and reports attached to it - even some attacks where its victims have escaped with large bleeding gashes on their legs or arms.

Today I went to my favorite place! Grand Traverse Commons, formerly the Northern Michigan Asylum/Traverse City State Hospital, is a collection of shops, offices, and residential rooms. I've heard the building is super haunted, and if I was ever a millionaire I would 100% buy a condo here.

Not creepy, but tourist traps are a love of mine. Latest stop was Dinosaur Gardens in Ossineke, MI! They told us they were putting in tree houses and showers, so I will definitely be trying to come back again!

While not the longest trip for me, definitely one of the coolest. Last weekend I learned that about 30 miles from my house is the "bigfoot capital of Michigan." I would have guessed it was further north. ANYHOW, I attended an event called Bigfoot Discovery Days, which was a series of presentations about local bigfoot evidence and experiences, as well as two (!!) lectures by Dr. Jeff Meldrum! I even got an autograph and selfie because I'm a giant nerd. So yeah. Stop #1 on my cryptid roadtrip: West Branch, MI.

When this kind of fire starts, it is very hard to put out. The tender boughs of innocence burn first, and the wind rises, and then all goodness is in jeopardy.

Ghosts are real, this much I know. There are things that tie them to a place, very much like they do to us. Some remain tethered to a patch of land, a time and date, the spilling of blood, a terrible crime… There are others, others that hold onto an emotion, a drive, loss, revenge, or love. Those, they never go away.
Crimson Peak (2015) dir. Guillermo del Toro

After everything we’ve seen, there isn’t much that rattles either of us anymore. But this one… this one still haunts me.

There isn’t much to Rachel, Nevada (population: 54), the town closest to the secretive Area 51 military base. Not even a gas station. And there’s very little else to see along the Extraterrestrial Highway until you arrive here, so the lights of the Little A’Le’Inn are all that illuminate this desolate stretch of Nevada outback.
Area 51 itself is difficult to find, as it’s not listed on maps, and the faint roads leading to its encircling barrier fences are rough and muddy. A traveler can only hope to spot something unexplained in the sky, but all we saw that day were thunderclouds carrying in a heavy rainstorm.
