i'm not even sure where to start here — i just lost my job and while i'm looking for another one immediately, if it's anything like my last experience then i'm in trouble. i don't know how to ask for help, i'm not very good at it but i'm trying. because honestly, i really need the help. things have not been great lately, i'm sure plenty agree with that statement, but i'm in a position that i'm desperately seeking any help that comes my way.
if you can't help, please reblog this post so that others might be able to? to anyone who provides help in any way, thank you. really, truly, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

03. Eternal vows - Enigmatic Alliances
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
synopsis: The story revolves around two individuals, a vampire prince, Lee felix and princess _, who have been bound together in an arranged marriage since birth. As they navigate the challenges of their unique union in the modern world, they discover unexpected feelings and form a connection that transcends their initial obligations.
Pairing: Lee Felix
Genre: Angst/fluff
Word count: 4.5k previous - next
I awaken in a cold sweat, my body still acclimating to the sensation of being abruptly yanked from one reality and thrust into another. My entire frame jerks towards the ceiling, propelled by a surge of adrenaline that sets my heart pounding with the rhythm of terror. Gasping for breath, I struggle to inhale, each lungful feeling like a desperate bid to escape the haunting remnants of the nightmare. My skin is drenched in a clammy sweat, causing my pyjamas and sheets to uncomfortably adhere to my body. With wide eyes and a trembling form, I frantically scour the dimly lit room, hunting for any lingering traces of the malevolent apparitions that had tormented my dreams.
Turning my gaze to the side, I notice Felix standing on the balcony, bathed in the soft glow of the moonlight. His dark hair gleams under the lunar rays, casting an almost vampiric aura upon him. He pivots, locking his gaze onto me, and his countenance softens upon seeing my distress. I turn my head away, feeling a bit pathetic, and divert my attention to the clock above my bedroom door. It reads 6:23 in the morning. I glance back at Felix, motioning for him to join me. He regards me with a perplexed expression.
"It's nearly sunrise, Felix," I advise, my voice carrying a slight rasp from just having awakened. "Staying outside for too long could be dangerous."
As Felix steps inside, the room seems to brighten with his presence. His enigmatic aura, intensified by the moonlight, now fills the chamber. His eyes, those deep, inscrutable pools, remain fixed on me, and the softness in his expression begins to break through the initial confusion.
I shift slightly in my bed, attempting to regain some semblance of composure, though my racing heart continues to betray my lingering anxiety. It's a struggle to shake off the remnants of the nightmare that had so violently torn me from sleep.
"Are you alright, Y/n?" Felix inquires with a genuine concern that takes me by surprise. His voice, though normally neutral, carries a soothing undertone that somehow manages to calm the storm of emotions within me.
"I... I had a nightmare," I confess, my voice still trembling with residual fear. "It's been happening a lot lately. The same one, over and over again."
Felix takes a step closer to the bed, his eyes now filled with a mix of sympathy and curiosity. "Would you like to talk about it?" he offers gently.
I nod my head, pulling the sheets tighter around me as if they could shield me from the vulnerability of my own fears. “It’s already quite early, school starts soon. Get ready, princess. I’ll be waiting outside.” his cold demeanour instantly returns as he exits the room. Stretching languidly, I rise, my bare feet touching the plush carpet that cushions my every step. My loyal maids, who have been with me since childhood, are already bustling about, preparing for the day ahead. The ritual begins with a lukewarm shower, the water a mere wake-up call rather than a source of comfort. Afterward, I stand before the ornate vanity mirror, where skilled hands tend to my hair and makeup, enhancing my natural beauty in preparation for the day's duties. My wardrobe presents an array of exquisite gowns, each one chosen with efficiency rather than excitement. With the final adjustments made, I am adorned in regal elegance, ready to embark on the day's activities as both a student and a princess, my demeanour carrying the weight of my kingdom's hopes and dreams on my shoulders.
Despite my overwhelming fatigue from the events of last night, a spark of anticipation kindles within me for the day ahead. It has truly been an extended period since I last saw my friends, and their presence promises a welcome respite from the complexities of my present circumstances. The prospect of their company offers a glimmer of hope, a brief escape from the tangled web of responsibilities that has ensnared me.
As I emerge from my chamber, I am met with the sight of Felix patiently stationed in the corridor. Despite his typically reserved demeanour, there's an unexpected warmth in the expression that graces his face, a stark contrast to his chilly exterior. His deep voice and seemingly aloof attitude, elements one wouldn't anticipate from a person of his demeanour, make him all the more enigmatic.
I offer him a gentle nudge before we commence our journey to school, where the carriage awaits our arrival.
He ducked down and adjusted my tiara, ensuring it sat perfectly on my head. The unexpected gesture made me jump, and an unbidden rush of heat flooded my cheeks as I met his gaze. The awareness of our proximity intensified the already dramatic  moment. For a fleeting second, I found myself lost in his dark, enigmatic eyes, but then he broke the silence.
"I'll tell the guards to inform your father about how we overslept but should still be on time for school," Felix said, his deep voice pulling me back to reality.
I swiftly remembered his true role and the secrecy of our predicament. "You're insufferable," I muttered weakly, my frustration mounting.
"Hmm, perhaps," he replied with a smirk. "I haven't had the chance to eat breakfast today." He reached into his backpack, extracting something unexpected. "Also, if they'd take away my cape, do you think they'd take away this?" From his bag, he pulled out an elaborate, ancient-looking sword, its hilt adorned with intricate engravings and jewels.
His eyes sparkled with mischief as he glanced at me. However, he seemed to think better of it, placing the weapon back in his bag and zipping it shut. Then he looked back at me, his smile undeterred. "Shall we?" he asked, gesturing toward the carriage.
Unwilling to dignify his antics with a response, I grabbed my royal satchel and stormed out of the hallway, with the enigmatic vampire prince following closely behind.
Felix, in a gesture of courtesy that catches me by surprise, takes the lead, graciously holding the carriage door open. I respond with a modest curtsy before accepting his hand for assistance as I step into the awaiting carriage. With a graceful manoeuvre, he follows suit, joining me inside.
We stepped out of the carriage and approached the grand entrance of the royal school, it became painfully evident that our arrival was no ordinary event. The students who milled about the entrance plaza turned their heads in unison, their eyes fixed on us with a mixture of curiosity, speculation, and perhaps even a hint of amusement. It was as if the entire school had been alerted to our presence, and the scrutinising gazes bore down on us like the weight of a thousand judgments.
My footsteps felt heavier, more deliberate, as I walked beside Felix, the enigmatic vampire prince who had become an unexpected part of my life. He, too, seemed acutely aware of the collective attention directed our way. With his dark attire and air of intrigue, he cut a figure that was impossible to ignore.
A hushed murmur seemed to ripple through the student body like a shiver passing through a crowd. Whispers exchanged behind hands and subtle nods of acknowledgment hinted that the nature of our peculiar arrangement was no secret within these walls. I couldn't help but wonder how much they truly knew or what they had heard about the princess and her mysterious new male friend.
Turning my gaze toward Felix, I noticed how his features remained cool and composed despite the weight of the collective gaze. His dark hair, contrasting with the pristine school uniforms worn by the students, seemed to possess an otherworldly luster in the morning sunlight. The aura of intrigue that surrounded him now almost echoed the vampiric allure he had exuded on that moonlit balcony.
He pivoted to meet my eyes, and for a fleeting moment, his enigmatic mask softened upon seeing the discomfort etched into my expression. I couldn't help but feel vulnerable under this intense scrutiny, and a rush of gratitude washed over me for his presence, even if it came with complexities beyond comprehension.
My gaze wavered, and I turned my head away, feeling a pang of self-consciousness. The clock above the school's entrance, a stark reminder of the inexorable march of time, seemed to mock our late arrival. It read 7:45, much later than my usual punctual arrival.
I glanced back at Felix, attempting to convey a sense of urgency through subtle gestures. He regarded me with an inscrutable expression, seemingly perplexed by my actions. The words came out in a hushed tone, my voice still carrying traces of the rasp from my just-awakened state.
"It's already quite late, Felix," I advised, my eyes darting toward the bustling school entrance. "We should make our way to the classroom without further delay."
With a reluctant nod, he complied, and together, we ventured into the grand halls of the royal school, leaving behind the whispers and the weight of their knowledge, or perhaps their assumptions, in our wake.
As I entered my first-period classroom, my gaze locked onto Yeji, my dearest friend. Her eyes flicked between me and Felix, a mischievous smirk playing on her lips. I quickly took the seat next to her, turning to face her as Felix settled into the seat to my right. His eyes roamed the unfamiliar surroundings, and I couldn't help but wonder if they had educational institutions like this back in his homeland. However, I refrained from voicing this curiosity, choosing instead to keep my inquiries to myself.
"So... is this the prince you're destined to marry?" Yeji inquired, leaning closer to me, her tone laced with excitement. "I always had a feeling you'd end up with a handsome guy!"
My response stumbled out in flustered words, "Well, wait, how do you even know about this arrangement?" My shock mirrored across my face like wildfire. Did everyone in this school already have knowledge of this royal engagement?
Just as Yeji was about to provide an answer, Felix interjected, his voice cutting through the classroom's atmosphere with its usual monotone steadiness. "Indeed, Princess, your father did publicly announce our alliance and how it will bring about prosperity to both our nations," his words echoed through the room, emphasising the significance of the union.
"Yeah, y/n! My mom was ecstatic when she heard about your boyfriend. Wait, he is your boyfriend, right?" Yeji's inquiry held a trace of uncertainty.
I shook my head vigorously, denying the notion vehemently. "No, no way. I just met him, and look at him. Why would I fall in love with someone like him?" Disgust tainted my voice as I spoke.
Glancing at Felix, I noticed a hurt expression etched onto his features, and an immediate pang of regret gripped my heart. I wished I could retract my harsh words, but the damage had already been done.
The atmosphere in the classroom seemed to hang in a suspended silence after my outburst. Yeji blinked, her enthusiasm deflating like a popped balloon, and then she cleared her throat awkwardly.
Felix, on the other hand, remained composed, though his eyes bore a hint of sadness that pierced through his usual stoicism. He turned his gaze away from me, fixing it on some indistinct point in the classroom as if lost in thought.
I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, overwhelmed by a strange mix of guilt and irritation. Why had I been so harsh? I couldn't deny that my arranged engagement to Felix was a source of frustration for me, but he didn't deserve to bear the brunt of my anger. He was, after all, a part of this arrangement as much as I was.
Yeji broke the tense silence with an apologetic smile, trying to diffuse the awkwardness. "Well, love can be unpredictable, right? Maybe you two will surprise yourselves," she said, her words carrying a tone of encouragement.
Felix finally turned his attention back to us, his usual impassive mask in place. "Perhaps," he replied softly, his voice devoid of any resentment or disappointment.
The rest of the class period passed in relative quiet. Yeji and I exchanged occasional whispers and glances, but the earlier tension hung in the air like an unspoken truth.
When the bell rang, signaling the end of the first class, I gathered my things, ready to head to the next subject. Felix rose from his seat as well, falling into step beside me as we exited the classroom.
As we walked through the bustling corridors, I couldn't help but notice the curious glances and hushed conversations among my classmates. It was clear that news of my arranged marriage had spread like wildfire, and the topic of conversation was undoubtedly Felix, the mysterious prince from a distant land.
I felt a growing unease with every pair of eyes that fell upon us, my discomfort increasing as I realized that my private life had suddenly become very public. The weight of my royal status and the expectations of my kingdom pressed down on me, and I couldn't help but resent the circumstances that had led to this situation.
Felix, however, seemed unfazed by the attention. He walked with a calm and measured stride, his posture impeccable. It was as if he had already become accustomed to the scrutiny, or perhaps he had spent his entire life in the public eye.
As we reached our next classroom, I turned to Felix, my voice laced with frustration but also a glimmer of curiosity. "How do you handle all this... attention?" I asked, gesturing discreetly to the prying eyes and whispered conversations around us.
He glanced at me, his dark eyes unreadable. "I've been trained to adapt to various situations," he replied simply. "And besides, it's all a part of our duty, Princess."
His response, though calm and collected, left me with more questions than answers. What exactly was his background, and what kind of training had prepared him for this role? The mysteries surrounding Felix seemed to deepen with every interaction.
As we entered the classroom and took our seats, I couldn't shake the feeling that our lives had irrevocably changed, and that this arrangement, whether I liked it or not, was bound to bring more challenges and surprises than I could have ever imagined. The final school bell chimed, signaling the end of another day of classes. Felix and I gathered our things, preparing to make our way home. It had been a day filled with curious stares, gossip, and the weight of our arranged engagement hanging over us. As we headed for the exit, I noticed a familiar face from the class above waving me over.
I excused myself from Felix and walked towards the source of the beckoning. It was Lee Minho, affectionately known as Lee Know, a name we'd playfully given him over the years. Lee Know had been a constant presence in my life, like the older brother I never had. Our fathers often collaborated on various matters, and as a result, Lee Know and I had forged a deep sibling-like bond.
He had always been there for me, a pillar of support even when others let me down. I fondly remembered how, just last year, my date had abandoned me at the school dance for another girl. Despite being a year above me, Lee Know had stepped in as my replacement date, making it a memorable and fun evening. There was nothing romantic about it, but his company had taken my mind off the disappointment, and he'd offered me a shoulder to lean on when I needed it most. Without him, I wasn't sure I would have navigated the challenges of my teenage years quite as smoothly.
"So, Princess y/n, I hear you're getting married," Lee Know teased, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"Oh, Lee Know, not you too," I sighed dramatically, rolling my eyes. "I was really hoping for a cute love story, you know, straight out of those books we used to read together."
"Ah, yes, the stuff of legends," he chuckled. "I was hoping you'd become the mother of my children."
I couldn't help but giggle. "You really need to stop calling Doongie, Soongie, and Dori your children. People might start thinking you're a teenage dad."
Lee Know grinned. "Guilty as charged. But seriously, when are you going to visit my own children?"
"Speaking of love," he continued, his tone becoming more serious, "where's your lover boy?" Lee Know glanced around, searching for Felix.
"I'm not entirely sure," I replied, a soft smile on my face. "But I'm sure he'll be fine. Well, I've got to run, Lee Know. Catch you later!"
"See you later, y/n," he called after me, and with a wave. After parting ways with Lee Know, I made my way back to the grand entrance of the school, where our carriage usually waited to take us home. As I reached the designated spot, I realized that Felix was nowhere to be seen. A sense of unease settled over me, which was strange, considering I had just met him today, but it felt as if something were amiss.
Suppressing my growing worry, I decided to check inside the school first, thinking that perhaps Felix had encountered some difficulties or gotten lost in this unfamiliar place. I retraced my steps through the echoing hallways, calling his name quietly, but there was no response.
My steps quickened as I passed the classrooms, the library, and the cafeteria, all of which were now empty, with students having gone home for the day. My heart began to race, and I couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. My eyes scanned every corner and shadow as I roamed the school's corridors.
Then, just as I was about to give in to full-blown panic, I turned a corner and found him. Felix was hunched over in a quiet corner of the school, his face contorted in pain. His arm was cradled protectively against his chest, and I could see a piece of bandage dangling loosely from it.
"Felix!" I rushed over to his side, concern overtaking any remaining awkwardness from our earlier interactions. "What happened? Are you okay?"
Felix looked up, his features tight with discomfort. "I... someone bumped into me," he hissed through gritted teeth. "It unwrapped the bandage on my arm, and the sunlight..."
I knelt down beside him, gently placing a hand on his uninjured arm. "Sunlight? Can you heal yourself?"
He nodded, wincing as he carefully pulled back the torn bandage to reveal his exposed arm. It was evident that the sunlight had indeed touched his skin. A series of sizzling burns marked the places where the rays had made contact.
"Vampires can't be exposed to sunlight," he explained, his voice low and strained. "It's one of our vulnerabilities, among others."
He gestured toward a bottle positioned across the hallway, where his bag lay. I retrieved it for him, and he proceeded to apply the soothing liquid onto his burn. A sharp hiss and a low growl of discomfort escaped his lips as he did so. Afterwards, he extended his hand for me to examine the injury.
I watched in amazement as the burns seemed to heal before my eyes, his skin knitting itself back together. It was a phenomenon beyond any medical explanation I knew. My mind raced with questions and curiosity about his kind, his world, and his vulnerabilities.
Felix continued, his expression pained but determined. "There's so much more to it, to us, Princess. My kind has a long history, filled with myths and legends, some of which are true. We have our own laws, our own culture. But we're not the monsters some believe us to be. We're just... different."
As he spoke, he reached for a fresh bandage from his bag and began wrapping it carefully around his arm. It was clear that this was a routine he was all too familiar with, an intrinsic part of his existence.
"I didn't ask for this life," he added softly. "But I must fulfill my duty to your family, to our nations. Even if it means facing the pain of the sun."
I listened, captivated by his words and the mysteries he hinted at. There was more to Felix, to his world, than met the eye, and I was determined to learn more about the enigmatic vampire prince who had entered my life so suddenly.
"Shall we head back home, Lix?" The affectionate nickname slipped out of my mouth without me even realising it. I anticipated a potential objection, but instead, I was greeted with a warm smile.
We started making our way back home, the journey accompanied by comfortable silence. As we walked, I couldn't help but think about Lix's well-being, particularly in the scorching sun.
After a few moments, I turned to him and said, "Lix, you know, we should go down to town sometime soon and pick up some clothes that'll protect you from the sun. It can get pretty brutal out here."
He glanced at me, his expression thoughtful. "You think so?"
I nodded, concern etched on my face. "Absolutely. It's important to take care of your skin, especially with how harsh the sun can be. We can find you some stylish yet practical options. What do you say?"
Lix smiled appreciatively, his eyes reflecting gratitude. "That sounds like a great idea. Thanks for looking out for me."
With our plan in place, we continued our journey back home, knowing that we were taking steps to ensure Lix's well-being in the unforgiving sun.
I'm not entirely certain about the reason, but I have a strong desire to ensure his safety. After returning home and changing into a more comfortable set of clothes, I couldn't resist the temptation of a small adventure. With Felix by my side, we hatched a plan to sneak into my father's room and discreetly collect some cash. The intention was to have a bit of spending money for our upcoming trip to town. I knew my father kept a stash of money hidden away in a drawer, and I hoped he wouldn't notice its absence among his vast wealth.
Carefully and quietly, Felix and I made our way to my father's room, navigating the grand corridors of the palace with the ease that came from our shared mischievous intent. The door creaked open just enough to slip inside unnoticed. I watched as Felix, with his steady hands, gently opened the drawer where the money was rumoured to be hidden. With a deftness that left me in awe, he retrieved a modest amount of cash and handed it to me with a sly grin.
Our hearts raced with a sense of daring, knowing that this was a secret adventure, a small rebellion against the strict protocols of royal life. We slipped out of the room as quietly as we had entered, sealing our secret pact with a shared glance of triumph.
Back in the carriage, as we made our way to town, the anticipation of our day ahead combined with the thrill of our covert operation. Felix's enigmatic presence added an air of intrigue to every moment, making this journey into town feel like an exciting escape from the confines of our royal responsibilities.
I take Felix's hand in mine, relishing the connection between us as we wander through the vibrant market. The bustling scene is a sensory overload, with colorful stalls and a throng of people who graciously acknowledge our presence with nods and smiles. I return their greetings with waves and warm words, and I can't help but notice that Felix, his eyes trained on me, wears an almost awestruck expression. It's as if this lively market atmosphere is a novel experience for him.
Amidst the myriad of market stalls, Felix's sharp eye catches sight of a particularly exquisite jewelry display. He comes to a graceful stop and turns to me, his curiosity palpable. "Which one do you like, Princess?" he inquires, his voice soft amidst the market's cacophony.
I follow his gaze and point to a breathtaking blue gem necklace that shimmers brilliantly under the warm sunlight. Felix nods in agreement and approaches the shopkeeper, engaging in a conversation that reveals his impeccable manners and generosity. He not only purchases the necklace but does so with such elegance and grace that the shopkeeper appears genuinely delighted. As he fastens the necklace around my neck with utmost care, my cheeks flush with a subtle blush, and I find myself gazing into his eyes with gratitude and affection, an unspoken connection growing stronger between us.
Our market adventure continues, and the cheerful voices of young children playing nearby draw our attention. Among them, Yuki, a familiar face I've known since her early childhood, beckons us to join their game of hide and seek. We share a playful glance, and Felix becomes the designated seeker. The children scatter around the compound of houses, and I can hear Felix counting aloud, his voice carrying in the breeze. Just as I start to feel the thrill of successfully concealing myself, he surprises me with a triumphant "boo!" My startled scream echoes through the air, and I instinctively jump back, my heart pounding.
Amidst laughter, I find myself instinctively clinging to Felix, our shared amusement bridging the gap between us. His laughter joins mine, and for a moment, we are lost in the pure joy of the game. As a team, we embark on the quest to locate the hiding children, our camaraderie growing stronger with every discovery.
After the game concludes, we return to the market's offerings, this time focusing on selecting a few items of clothing for Felix. The atmosphere here seems to coax out a carefree side of him, and it warms my heart to see him momentarily liberated from the weight of his responsibilities. In these simple moments, I find solace in knowing that I can offer him a glimpse of a life unburdened by duty, even if it's just for a short while.
As we browse the stalls, Felix's eyes light up at the colorful fabrics and designs. "Princess, what do you think of this one?" he asks, holding up a vibrant scarf adorned with intricate patterns.
I examine it closely and nod approvingly. "It's lovely, Felix. The colors suit you perfectly. And it'll provide some protection from the sun too."
He smiles, and we purchase the scarf along with a few other clothing items. It's a simple act, but it signifies a deeper bond forming between us. We continue to chat and explore, our conversation ranging from market anecdotes to our shared experiences in this bustling place.
As the sun begins to dip below the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow over the market, I realise how much I cherish these moments with Felix. It's not just the material treasures we've acquired, but the shared laughter, the playful camaraderie, and the stolen moments of freedom that make this day unforgettable.

I take a deep breath, attempting to steady my nerves. My heart pounds in my chest as I glance at Felix, who wears a stoic expression. I can feel the weight of our responsibilities and the intensity of this moment. With a slight nod, I gesture towards the exit, no longer feeling hungry. I silently suggest that we should leave the dining hall and find a quieter place to talk.
We step outside into the castle gardens, where the moon's soft glow casts a gentle light over the blooming flowers and the fountains that sprinkle water into the night air. The rustling of leaves and the distant chirping of crickets provide a soothing background to our charged encounter.
The garden takes on a completely different persona in the darkness, transforming from a vibrant tapestry of colours to a place of enchantment and intrigue. The flowers, once bright and vivid, now appear ethereal and otherworldly, their petals reflecting the moonlight like pale ghosts. The scent of blossoms intensifies under the cool night air, a delicate dance of perfumes that seems to weave a lullaby for the senses.
As I walk along the cobblestone path, the nocturnal denizens of the garden come alive. Fireflies flit and dance, their luminescent bodies illuminating the darkness, adding a touch of magic to the scene. I follow their glowing trails, like tiny beacons guiding me deeper into the heart of this nocturnal wonderland.
The sound of water reaches my ears as I approach a moonlit pond. Felix follows closely behind, even though I despise the boy behind me I find myself showing him things that are special to me. Almost as if I wanted him to understand me. The water surface glimmers, reflecting the moon's silver radiance, and the lily pads seem to float like miniature boats adorned with fairy lanterns. Frogs croak in symphony, and their chorus adds a whimsical melody to the quietude of the night.
Under the canopy of ancient willow trees, I find a stone bench, nestled beneath the outstretched branches. The leaves overhead rustle gently in the breeze, creating a soothing, hushed whisper that seems to share secrets only the night knows. I sit, feeling the coolness of the stone beneath me, and lean back to look up at the stars, each one a tiny spark in the vastness of the universe. My eyes meet felix’s for the hundredth time tonight and I pat the spot next to me, motioning for him to take a seat next to me.
"I suppose we should start somewhere," Felix says, breaking the silence. "I am Lee Felix, Prince of Sunsuhan.”
"Y/n," I reply in a formal tone, though his eyes soften slightly. "I am well aware of your name, Felix."
He chuckles nervously. "I suppose it's only fair, considering I knew yours for the longest time."
I nods, he attempts to smile comfortingly but it's evident that conversation doesn't come easily to him. He seems guarded, as if years of living in solitude have turned him into a person of few words.
"I understand that this isn't the life you chose, nor is it one I expected," Felix admit, his voice barely above a whisper. "But we have to find a way to make the best of this situation."
"Make the best of it?" I repeat with shock, a hint of bitterness in his voice. "How can I pretend that being bound to a prince, a vampire for god sakes, is anything but a curse? Everyone knows you guys are pure evil. That you kill others."
HE flinch at the harsh words spilling out of my mouth, but I have a right to feel so resentful.. In the vampire world, binding oneself to a human is an extraordinary step and one not taken lightly. I wonder if he sees me as a mere pawn, a bargaining chip used by my father to secure an alliance and is trying to comfort me in a manner that could turn into control.
A sniffle escapes my lips causing Felix to turn his head a face me, “ The worst part of this is that I’m going to live with you forever. We are stuck we eachother till the end of time…”
Felix's gaze softens, and for the first time, I catch a glimpse of vulnerability in his eyes. "I never asked for this life. I never wanted to be a vampire. But fate had other plans, and now I am bound to you."
His words carry a mixture of resignation and sorrow, and I can't help but empathise with him. While our situations are vastly different, we both face the weight of expectations and traditions beyond our control.
"We might not have chosen this path, but we can still shape our destinies," I say, taking a step closer to him.” I would prefer if we could keep our distance, even though you are with me at all times, you, Felix, are just a promise, just a bound, not a friend, not an accomplice, not even a lover, you are nothing to me.”
Felix looks at me, seemingly taken aback by words. It's clear that he hasn't had anyone extend such an olive branch to him before and that I am just pushing him back.
“ I understand how you feel princess…”, He pauses and glances at the pond in front of us, “ It is getting rather late, I believe we should head back and get some rest.” He holds his hand out at me with a blank expression. What is up with this guy?! Does he not  have emotions? Do vampires even feel things? As I continue to ponder on such thoughts, I grab Felix’s hand to pull myself up and head through the halls of the castle.
My heart sinks as I realise the impact of my words on Felix. I didn't intend to hurt him further, but his attempt to connect seemed to have only driven us apart. The weight of my emotions makes each step feel heavier as we walk back through the halls of the castle in silence.
As we approach our respective chambers, I pause, not wanting to part on such a bitter note. "Felix, I didn't mean to dismiss you like that. It's just that... this situation is so overwhelming, and I'm struggling to come to terms with it all."
He glances at me, his expression still guarded, but I sense a glimmer of understanding in his eyes. "Princess, I've lived a long time, and my existence has been filled with solitude and duty. I've learned to distance myself from emotions and attachments. But that doesn't mean I don't feel."
It’s almost as if he read me instantly. I nod, appreciating his honesty. "I know you didn't choose this life, just as I didn't choose to be thrust into this arrangement. Maybe we can try to find some common ground, a way to coexist without resentment."
Felix seems to contemplate my words for a moment before giving a slight nod. "Perhaps... but we should proceed with caution. Our worlds are vastly different, and it won't be easy to bridge the gap between us."
We both enter my -now our- bedroom and go our separate ways. Felix sits on my chair next to my vanity and reflects, while I head into my closet and change into my nightgown. Crafted from soft cotton, my nightgown boasts a delightful hue of dreamy lavender. It holds a special place in my heart, as my father lovingly gifted it to me during the early days of his marriage to my mother. You see, it was foretold in a prophecy that they would have a daughter, and he had an intuition about my arrival.
As I step into the bathroom, my mind is a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. I can't help but wonder if everyone around me was aware of the prophecy, if that was the reason for their overwhelming care and concern. Did they see me as a potential vampire, a creature capable of causing harm? The fear of my true nature possibly hurting those I love weighs heavily on my heart.
A gentle knock from behind the door pulled me out of my thoughts. I gently commanded Felix to enter. “Is everything Alright princess? You’ve been in here for half a glass and I was starting to get…” he paused in between his words, he thought them out carefully, “concerned.” “Sorry, I was just pondering…” I say as I exit the bathroom and get into bed. As I lie there in the dimly lit chamber, the minutes seem to stretch on as I wait for Felix to join me. The soft glow of the flickering candles casts dancing shadows on the walls, and the rustling of the silk curtains adds to the quiet ambiance. The thought of sharing my bed with someone, especially someone I barely know, feels strange and unfamiliar, but I understand that this is part of the new reality I must embrace.
Finally, after what feels like an eternity, Felix emerges from the adjoining dressing room, now clad in a simple nightshirt. The moonlight filtering through the window catches the brown strands of his hair, giving him an otherworldly aura. He moves with the grace and ease of a predator, and for a moment, I'm reminded of the legends about vampires—creatures of the night with mysterious powers and alluring charm.
As he settles into the bed beside me, I can't help but feel a mix of trepidation and curiosity. We lie there in silence for a moment, each absorbed in our thoughts. The air between us feels charged with unspoken words, a palpable tension that neither of us knows how to break.

A arrangement made many many moons ago before you were even born. The kingdoms of Sunsuhan, which was led by the Lee’s and kingdom Esteria led by the the Aeryn’s. The kingdoms had been close since Esteria’s democracy turned to a monarchy when the most benevolent individuals in Esteria led the people to freedom. In order to receive protection from the kingdom of Sunsuhan, the second child of the family must marry the second child of the Lee’s. This event will unite the kingdoms and make them one, the kingdom will then be ruled by the couple.
At a young age you were told that you were going to save your kingdom and grant a blessing onto the townsfolk.
At a young age you were told that you were going to get to meet the ‘man of your dreams’ once you reached age 14.
At a young age you were told that you were going to marry the most handsome man at age 20.
At a young age you were told that you were a sacrifice.
At a young age you were told that you were receiving a blessing.
At a young age you were told that you didn’t have a choice in life.
At a young age you learned that you didn’t have a choice…
A rather loud knock interrupted your peaceful slumber. The anonymous individual shouted your name multiple times claiming that you were going to be late. Late? Late for what?
”Yes? What do I owe the pleasure of?” I inquire sounding rather sarcastic,” clearly, not my sleep…”
”My dear princess? Oh good, you’ve awoken from your deep slumber. I hope you slept all write. Um.. what did I come here for again? Oh yes! Happy birthday Princess! Your father would like to meet you at the dining hall.” The servant blabbers on for a few more seconds before leaving me to my thoughts.
Well, as a fourteen-year-old, its best to start of this year with a ‘new-year-new-me’ deal, so might as well be productive and begin getting dressed.
You head into my bathroom and stare at myself in the mirror. Glances through my body start from your hair to your feet, you don’t look any different nor do you feel any older. You go through all of the basics, from brushing your teeth to showering to changing into the outfit laid in front of your dresser. The gown is simply breathtaking, the ensemble was designed to capture the essence of regal elegance. Crafted from the finest silk, it cascades down in a voluminous A-line silhouette, gently hugging the bodice before flowing gracefully to the floor. A shimmering, iridescent sheen graces the fabric, creating an ethereal effect as it catches the light. The gown's waist is cinched with a dainty yet opulent satin sash, adorned with embroidered motifs and tiny pearls. From the waistline, the skirt billows out in layers of cascading fabric, akin to a cascade of moonlit waterfalls. You slip it on and watch as it falls to the floor, the size is fit perfectly no adjustments needed. The measurements must have been taken last week when three maids bombarded you with questions and harshly laid a string of measurement tape around my body.
The dazed stare in your eyes in cut off as the room door opens. A knight steps inside, sir Gregory. He’s been with me since childhood, a sad smile is laced across his face. His arms open up in the direction of the door, holding it out for you. Out of curtsy, a similar smile masks over you feature and I head out the door.
Sir Gregory steps onto your gown, a rather grimacing look is now plastered onto my face, but even at 14, I know not to interfere with the guards.
After a bit of a stroll, you are met with the doors of the dining room. Two intimidating guards appear in front of you and push the door open. You head inside with expectations to see your father and hope for a small visit from your mother, however, you gaze was met by a rather young boy and his two parents. The boys gaze doesn’t meet yours and his parents stare back with a sinister smile.
”Ah! Yes, my dear daughter. I’m glad to see that you have made it.” A fake laugh leaves your father's mouth, “Let me introduce you to Your Majesties, Mr. and Mrs. Lee and their son, prince Felix.”
As if on command, prince Felix lifts his head and smiles, his eyes crinkling at the corners.
You turn your head to them and bow with a confused smile.
As your father beckons everyone to sit down, your gaze is still captured onto Felix’s. Once you find your seat, which is to the right of your fathers, you tilt your head in his direction and mumble something to him.
”Good morning father, might I inquire as to the reason for their presence?” the side of my eyes peering to the strange individuals to the left of me.
”Verily, I sought to apprise thee of this matter at a later hour; however, I deem the present moment opportune. As thou art well cognizant, Felix doth bear the princely title of Sunsuhan, whilst thou, my dear, art the esteemed princess of Esteria.” my father informs alerting the attention of the king and queen, their gaze following mine, “A myriad of years hath passed since an arrangement was forged for thou twain. To unite the nations, thy union in marriage is the decree, that as one united realm, thou shalt reign o'er the lands, ruling both nations in harmony.”
Upon hearing the revelation, a mix of emotions swirls within you. The weight of responsibility and destiny settles heavily on your young shoulders, and you find it difficult to grasp the enormity of the situation. The realization that your entire life has been leading up to this moment, the joining of two kingdoms through your marriage, is both awe-inspiring and daunting.
As your gaze returns to Felix’s you notice his brown eyes look quite different to yours. Instead of uncertainty in his eyes, you notice a flicker of fear in his yet it changes back into a neutral gaze.
Attempting to maintain composure, you give a polite nod to the visiting royals, acknowledging the significance of their presence. Your mind races with questions, a desire to know more about Felix, and whether he shares the same feelings of trepidation and confusion since you can’t read his expressions at all.
“Oh dear princess, I know it must be terrifying to know that you will become a vampire in the future, but we assure you that you have nothing to fear.” the queen replies with a look in her eyes that makes you shrink under her gaze.
“Father… what?”my heart starts pacing, a veil of dread covering my line of vision.
“Don’t test my patience just accept it as it is,” he says.  “Especially after I have constructed a compromise according to your whims, young lady.”
Your brow furrows.  You have no idea where this is going but you know you won’t like it, because you never like it.
After a tense breakfast filled with awkward silences and guarded glances, the final morsels are consumed, and the dining hall clears. As you rise from your seat, still grappling with the overwhelming revelation, your father's voice fills the room once more, commanding attention. With a somber tone, he addresses Prince Felix and his parents.
"Do not leave yet my child, as part of the unification of our realms, it is now time to acquaint you with the rest of the arrangements," he declares, his gaze lingering on you and Felix. "Henceforth, you, Princess, and Prince Felix shall share the same abode. A decision we believe will foster understanding and camaraderie between the two of you."
You don’t even bother to glance a Felix, knowing that his expression will hold no emotion.
Your father continues, "In addition, both of you shall commence your education together at the Royal Academy, a place where knowledge and friendship shall be cultivated side by side."
So, now he's taking over your life?! He’s going to be in your bed, in your school, in your everyday life for the rest of your life…
"Furthermore," your father announces, "when you both reach the age of 18, the engagement shall take place, sealing the bond that will unite our kingdoms in an unbreakable alliance. And at the age of 20, the marriage will come to fruition, symbolizing the harmony between our lands.”
After his speech, you choose to stay silent knowing that the consequences of opening your mouth could result in embarrassment and possibly harm. Cautiously, you lift up your head and peer at my father, he gives me an approving nod and requests Felix to follow behind me with his stuff. As you prepare to leave the room, you can't help but notice the king's demeanor, his expression seemingly tinged with a hint of displeasure. Politely acknowledging him with a nod, you step outside the dining hall. It strikes you that you've had only a brief interaction with Felix, a mere hour at most, hardly enough time for meaningful conversation—more like fleeting glances exchanged. Nervously, you find your hands absentmindedly fiddling with the fabric of your dress, and as you do, a loose pearl comes free, landing softly in your palm.
As your gaze fixates on the pearl, the door opens, and Felix enters the room. You half-expect him to be carrying a suitcase filled with his belongings, but all he has is a simple gray duffle bag slung over his shoulder. Deciding to keep your distance, you lead him through the castle's halls. However, as you traverse the familiar passageways, you can't help but notice an eerie absence—the knights who usually stand guard along the halls leading to your room are nowhere to be seen.
”What the? Where are all the guards?” softly, you find yourself questioning out loud.
Felix’s deep voice makes you jump, “Well princess, since I am a vampire my abilities are more enhanced then the guards that protect you, so instead, I’ll be the one protecting you instead. I hope you do not mind.”
As I spin around, our eyes meet. His gentle smile seems almost deceptive, like a mask hiding something, especially considering the unexpectedly deep voice that emanates from such a young boy. But in the blink of an eye, that warm facade dissipates, replaced by a neutral expression that only fuels my frustration. Why is he so unreadable? Does he know something I don't? Was he aware of the arrangements before I was? The questions churn within me, adding to my growing irritation.
“I do mind. You’re corrupting my life! Wherever I go you’ll be there! What ever I do you’ll be behind me! I don’t understand and I despise you.” your mind goes blank, and without thinking, I unleash a scream at him. But when I meet his gaze again, his reaction surprises me. It's not a hurt expression like I expected; instead, it appears emotionless. Feeling unsettled, I spin myself around and resume the walk to our room, enveloped in a cloud of upset silence.
As we enter the opulent room, an awkward silence hangs in the air.
"So, um, where should I put my stuff?" Felix asks hesitantly, breaking the tension.
You give a half-hearted smile, trying to act nonchalant hoping it made up slightly for your outbreak, "I'll, uh, make some space in the wardrobe." Your mind races with thoughts, but you can't find the right words to express them. The weight of the arranged marriage bears heavily on you, whereas Felix looks like he doesn’t care. As you clear a few hangers for his clothes, you can feel his gaze on me, but you dare not look back. This whole situation is just too overwhelming, and the silence between us only amplifies the uncertainty.
“Is this enough space?” you question, sparing him a side glance.
”Yes, thank you.” he mutters as he walks past me.
As night draws near, a sense of curiosity about Felix takes hold of me. The events of the day have been overwhelming, and amidst the chaos of arrangements and revelations, I can't help but wonder about the young prince who will now be a constant presence in my life. As I sit in my room, the grandeur of the castle surrounds me, but my thoughts are consumed by the enigma that is Felix.
My father summons us to join him for dinner. The atmosphere during the walk to the dining hall is heavy with an awkward silence, broken only by the sound of our footsteps echoing through the castle's corridors. Upon entering the grand dining hall, we find my father as the sole presence at the table. His keen gaze assesses both of us before gesturing for Felix and you to take your seats. A servant stands nearby, awaiting instructions.
My father clears his throat, and the room falls into silence. "I hope you both have had some time to bond over this arrangement," he begins, his tone stern and uncompromising. "You must understand that neither of you has a say in this matter, and any attempt to interfere or voice discontent will carry significant consequences. I shall retire from the room as I have already eaten. Take this opportunity to get to know each other better, for it is clear that communication between you both needs improvement."
With that, he departs, leaving us to face the weight of his words and the reality of our bound destinies. The silence in the dining hall is palpable, now filled with the unspoken tension between Felix and me. Worst. Birthday, Ever.
