Can you believe it, Dean unintentionally delivered the punch line to a joke that he started 8 years ago ! But this is not the reason I made this gifset, and I wouldn’t read too much into this moment if the episode was written by any other writer, but this is Robbie fucking Thompson, this can’t be fortuitous.
.
See, Dean made the joke when talking to Cas on the phone as some kind of private joke, a joke that he genuinely expected Cas to understand, Dean totally forgot that Cas wasn’t there 8 years ago with him and Sam, that he hadn’t met Cas yet at the time.
Most of us have already heard or read the phrases : “I can’t remember my life before meeting him/her” or “i feel like I’ve known him/her my whole life” from a person who is deeply in love with his/her significant other.
This is,I think, what Dean feels , it’s like Cas has always been there , it’s like he has known him forever, he just can’t imagine his life, past or future, without Cas.
