Safety Reminder/Your Kink Is Not My Kink

As the sign up start date (May 1st) looms, we just want to re-iterate our messaging around the kink list.

Some of the kinks listed in the prompt selection may indicate extreme, upsetting, triggering content, or content you personally find immoral, or that “squicks” you. You are ultimately responsible for the content you consume - if something is not for you, scroll past and/or use the necessary blocking/muting features to exclude this content from your feed.

Prompts are opt-in; when signs ups start, you will be able to choose which prompts are in the pool that will make your bingo card, meaning you can eliminate anything you don't want, or things that are too similar to each other.

When posting fills, please make sure to tag and rate all works appropriately for their content, such as using Archive of Our Own’s warning, rating and tag system, or tumblr’s ‘read more’ function.

Hello, just wondering what happens if someone gets a prompt that is a trigger ?

When signs ups open, the list of possible prompts will be opt-in, which means you self-select which prompts appear in your pool for creation of your bingo card. That means you should be able to avoid any triggers, squicks or do-no-wants.

do all my fills have to be for the same pairing?

They do not have to be the same pairing/ships for each fill.

As long as it's anchored in some way to Criminal Minds, you can use any combination of characters from the show (or the spins offs), pair them with OCs/reader inserts, with other characters from other fandoms - the only limit is your own tastes and imagination!

am i able to sign up even if i dont end up finishing the works/not getting bingo? i’m trying to get back into writing so im unsure if i’d actually be able to finish the bingo card

Absolutely!

To get a line, you only need to fill out 5 squares, so even if you don’t think you’d be able to do a full house, you can always make a line your goal! If you don’t manage to, that’s okay as well- enjoyment and creativity are the main focuses of this event, so it shouldn’t become something stressful.

Also, keep in mind that writing fills don’t need to be long at all- 500 words per piece is the minimum, so don’t feel pressured to write more if it the prompt isn’t working out.

It’s time to get kinky! Welcome to Criminal Minds Kink Bingo 2024.

The goal of a bingo challenge is to get a bingo on your card, either by crossing out one line, two lines, or a blackout (full card) by creating fanworks for the prompts randomly provided on the card.

This could be a written piece of a minimum 500 words, a piece of finished art, or another kind of fanwork of your choosing.

Please note that this challenge and blog is for people 18+ only.

Timelines/Deadlines

Until sign ups open, we are accepting kink nominations to be included as options via our ask box. We have a list already, but we will add to it if something is missing.

Sign ups start on May 1st 2024 and will be open until May 15th.

Individual cards will be issued by May 22nd, and the event officially starts on May 26th (you can start creating as soon as you receive your bingo card).

As soon as the event starts on May 26th, you can post fanworks whenever they’re created, in whatever place you prefer. You can tag your fills, bingo updates or WIPs with #cmkinkbingo2024 on tumblr. We also have a collection on AO3 for your works here.

You have until June 23rd 2024 to complete your bingos!

How Bingo Works

Lines can be made by crossing out squares in any direction - horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. To cross out a square, use the prompt on it to create and post a fanwork.

You will choose from a large list of potential prompts, marking the ones you would be happy to have generated on a 5x5 square bingo card. This will also allow you to exclude prompts you would not be happy to have to create for.

While that does mean you could create the perfect bingo card, we encourage you to select upwards of 25 prompts, to allow for some randomness in the challenge.

Every card will have a free space in the middle, where you have the option to choose a prompt yourself.

You can request additional bingo cards if you complete a line, 2 lines or a full house and want to try for a second win!

Rules/Guidelines

No plagiarism, art theft or AI generated content will be tolerated in works for this challenge. Participants/works will be excluded at our discretion in these circumstances.

You can post your fanworks wherever you prefer.

Just like kinks are not always sexual, works do not have to be explicit to be entered. As long as it relates to the prompt, SFW content is entirely allowed.

Some of the kinks utilized in this challenge will fall under “real world” kinks, and others under things considered a kink in the context of fanwork creation.

You are responsible for how much you stick to the spirit of the challenge - ultimately this is meant to be fun, and to spur people to be creative, and create content for a fandom we love!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use OC/Character (character/reader etc) pairings? Can I use crackships? Can I write crossovers?

Yes, as long as it’s anchored in some way to Criminal Minds! This includes using characters from the CM spinoffs Suspect Behaviour and Beyond Borders.

Can I interpret the prompt as ___?

Yes, you can interpret the prompt in any way you like.

Can I use multiple prompts in one fill?

You can, but in the spirit of the challenge, your word count should reflect multiple prompts. For example if you fill two prompts in one fic, it should be at least 1000 words, rather than the 500 word minimum for a single fill.

For art or other kinds of fanworks, use your best judgement as to the spirit of the challenge.

Where should I post my work? How should I track my bingo card?

Anywhere you like! Make your own link to your fics on tumblr, create a series on Archive of Our Own, do both!

You can use the bingo card we provide and edit the image with prompts stamped/marked off as you progress.

You can tag your fills, bingo updates or WIPs with #cmkinkbingo2024 on tumblr.

We also have a collection on AO3 for your works here.

Do I have to wait until the deadline to post my fills? Can I discuss my fills on tumblr/discord etc?

You can post them as you create them, the deadline is for completing 1 line, 2 lines or a blackout.

You can discuss/share your fills wherever you’d normally talk about works in progress.

I really don’t like/can’t fill a prompt I’ve got, what do I do?

If you’ve got a prompt that you are struggling with, and its inclusion is keeping you from completing a win state (1 line, 2 lines, blackout) contact us, and we will assist with modifying your card. Please only do this if you’re really stuck!

I've completed a line, do I have to black out the board before I can request a new card?

As soon as you've completed at least 1 line, you can request a new bingo card to try again for another win. Send us a message, and let us know you'd like a new card, and if you want any already completed prompts excluded from the new card.

Can I create a mix of fiction and art fills?

Yes you can.

Can I count something I've already published as a fill for my bingo?

No, works should be new for the challenge, or at least mostly new. For example, if you've written a 100 word drabble that fits a prompt that you decide to build on for a fill, this would still be in the spirit of the event.

Can I publish something for a fill that is also part of an existing series?

Yes, as long as it fits the criteria for a fill in its standalone form (500 words/finished piece).
