clark kent spring break week day seven - when the stars come to earth
in which an encounter in centennial park brings back a memory clark thought he'd long lost. for the prompt springtime in the city.
here we are, the final day of clark kent week! i can't believe i actually managed to complete this, and it feels fantastic! i leave you with this super fluffy fic based on a post i made a while ago.
without further ado, enjoy!
cw: insects.
🌃🌃🌃
the sun had mostly set beyond the horizon as clark took his walk through centennial park.
despite what the news crews might've portrayed, the daily planet included, metropolis wasn't a constant hotbed for criminal masterminds and alien invasions. on the contrary, at times like this, it could feel like a paradise city. sure, clark was more aware than anyone of the looming dangers in this city. if lex luthor found himself in a rotten mood, or more aliens decided to come for krypton's last son, or anyone had the bright idea to make everyone's day worse, he would be the one to spring into action and prevent everything from spiraling into an even worse chaos.
but in these moments, alone at the park as the pink and orange sky faded to velvet purple, clark could forget about all of that. he could let superman rest and simply exist, as if it was what he was always meant to do.
the fresh air swirled around him as a light breeze flitted among the trees. all around, in different directions, clark could hear a smattering of people, couples going on romantic walks, parents taking their children out for a fun night, or people like himself who just wanted to be alone. songbirds and their chicks had all started tucking in for the night, settling into their nests. nights like this were much needed for clark. when he couldn't get to the fortress of solitude to be alone, it was here clark could find peace.
as clark admired the color shifting sky above him, something caught his attention. out of the corner of his eye, he saw a little blinking light flicker, then vanish. for a moment, clark wondered if it was a passing satellite far off in the distance. then, the light blinked again, this time closer. soon, there were two, then three, hovering around clark with a sort of curiosity.
it took clark a moment to realize that these weren't satellites in the distance, but fireflies, ready to join the nocturnal dance. clark felt himself start to smile as he lifted his hand up to them. one of them landed on the back of his hand, and clark moved his hand to get a closer look, watching it blink its little light up at him.
the sight of the firefly's blinking light sent clark back through time into a memory, something he'd thought he'd lost forever...
"mama! mama, look out there!"
clark eagerly bounced on his toes to try and peek his little head over the windowsill, pointing outside at the flickering lights outside. martha, sensing her son's excitement, paused doing the dishes to see what clark was looking at.
"oh, look at that!" she said happily. "the fireflies are out!"
"fireflies?" clark asked. "what are those?"
"they're little bugs that can light up," martha explained. "they come out at the end of may, it's a beautiful thing to see."
clark "oooh"ed softly as he went back to watching the fireflies. he didn't even notice martha going back to doing the dishes, laser focused on the blinking lights. he had to get a closer look.
toddling over to the door, clark managed to fiddle open the handle and eagerly ran outside, off of the porch, and into the grassy yard around him. he spun around in circles as he watched the fireflies, trying to watch all of them at once, but even this wasn't enough. he needed to get even closer.
clark knew mama and papa had always told him to be careful about his powers, but no one else was around. he could do this just once, right?
calling upon his powers, clark jumped as high as his tiny legs would allow him and began to hover above the ground. he smiled as brightly as the light the fireflies produced around him as he began to float, chasing the fireflies over the grass and through the air. the fireflies almost appeared to be playing with them, fluttering close to clark before darting away, back and forth over and over.
he didn't notice that martha had started watching him until he turned back around towards the house. for a moment, he thought he was in trouble for using his powers, until he saw the smile on martha's face, the love in her eyes as she watched her son chasing fireflies.
reassured by his mother's kindness, clark giggled and waved at her before returning to flying around, following the fireflies through the air, chasing the little flickering stars through the night...
clark felt the small smile on his face grow as he remembered his childhood. his childhood felt more and more distant as he grew up, but here, it was like the universe had blessed him with one single moment where he could reach backwards in time and pull his memories into the present.
the firefly flitted off of clark's hand to rejoin its insect kin. clark lowered his hand back to his side, his eyes wistful as he watched them blinking in and out all around him.
he made a mental note to reach out to martha when he got back to his apartment, both for a wellness check and a chance to reminisce on his childhood. for now, though, clark took a seat on a park bench to watch the fireflies, grateful for this one moment of peace.
🌃🌃🌃
the fireflies came out for the first time today, so i knew that i had to incorporate them into this fic. watching them is one of my favorite pleasures in life.
thank you to everyone who joined me in this clark kent week, and huge kudos to everyone else who participated! this has been super fun, and i look forward to doing it again!

clark kent spring break week day six - sweat it out
in which clark offers to spot for bruce at his gym session and clark gets a little distracted. for the prompt hitting the gym.
y'all know i'm kind of a gym rat, so i knew that this one would be on my list. also, i love writing big, powerful clark being fascinated by relatively more squishy and breakable humans, so there's that.
without further ado, enjoy!
🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♂️
clark didn't expect his visit to the manor to turn out like this, but he wasn't complaining.
he'd gotten a day off from the daily planet, and he decided to surprise bruce with a visit to the manor. he knew things had gotten lonely since dick had struck out for blüdhaven, so what better way to alleviate that than with a visit?
when he'd gotten to the manor, he'd been greeted by alfred, who'd curtly informed clark, "master bruce is currently in the middle of his workout. i can lead you to him, if you'd like."
"oh, sure, thanks alfred!" clark had chirped, which had prompted alfred to lead clark through the manor and into bruce's private gym.
that led to where clark was now, watching bruce doing his warm up jog on the treadmill.
"oh, hey clark!" bruce said, a small smile on his face. "what brings you over here?"
"it's my day off, so i thought i'd stop by to visit," clark said. "though i think i'm interrupting you, so i can come back later if-"
"oh no, no, you actually came at a pretty good time," bruce said as the treadmill slowed to a stop. he stepped off the treadmill and made his way over to the weight rack, where he got to work setting up the bench and adding plates onto the barbell rod.
"here, could you spot for me?" bruce asked as he positioned himself on the bench.
"uh, sure," clark said as he made his way over. "...what does that mean? i don't exactly go to the gym, so you'll have to catch me up to speed on the terminology."
"it basically means keep an eye on my form so i don't mess up, and help me out if it looks like i can't complete my lift," bruce explained. "don't worry, if there's anyone i can trust to make sure i don't break my face, it's you."
"thanks, i think," clark said with an awkward laugh as he positioned himself behind bruce on the bench. bruce smirked up at clark before focusing himself on the barbell above him. he fixed his form, reached up, and began his bench presses.
standing so close to bruce, clark could get a better look at him, and he had to admit, bruce looked attractive all sweaty like this. clark didn't normally sweat, really only doing so either when faced with kryptonite or fighting someone who matched his strength, so the concept was sort of foreign to him. humans, on the other hand, could sometimes break a sweat simply by walking quickly. it was another human thing clark found fascinating, especially on bruce.
"you alright, clark?" bruce asked as he racked the barbell.
"huh?" clark snapped out of his little daze. "oh, uh, yeah, i'm fine."
"just making sure," bruce said, sitting up and taking a swig from his water bottle.
"sorry i don't know much about this stuff," clark said, rubbing the back of his neck. "i have no idea about any of this." he chuckled and said, "i remember when lois first visited my apartment. i had a rack of weights in my bedroom, you know, some way to form an alibi for my super strength? i walked in and saw her using my heaviest ones, and she said she was surprised i had my physique when i used such small weights!"
that got a laugh out of bruce as he set his water bottle back down. "so, what do you tell people now when they ask?"
"i usually just say i did a lot of farm work," clark shrugged. "i mean, it's not a lie."
"that checks out," bruce said as he laid back down on the bench and got into proper form. clark repositioned himself behind bruce, and bruce began his second set.
watching him lift the heavy weights, clark found himself intrigued by bruce's movements. sure, it was one thing to see his own body work as he moved. it was another thing entirely to be able to see bruce exerting himself like this without his life being threatened. to be honest, clark found bruce's flexibility and strength in battle alluring, but having it on such shameless display before him made clark feel very fortunate indeed.
"clark?" bruce said as he racked the barbell for the second time. "you're zoning out on me again."
"sorry!" clark sheepishly said. "just... sorry, i just love seeing you like this."
bruce raised an eyebrow as he sat up and grabbed his water bottle. "what do you mean by that?"
clark fidgeted a bit with his own hands and said, "you're just really strong. me, i could probably lift this with one finger, but something about seeing your muscles moving, hearing your heartbeat speed up when you're exerting yourself... it's beautiful, honestly."
bruce took a drink for a bit, watching clark as he spoke. he eventually smiled, set down his water, and said, "well, i'm honored that the superpowered alien finds me strong."
he chuckled and kissed clark's cheek before returning to the bench. "i've got a few more warm up sets before my main sets, think you can handle that?"
"these are warm up sets?" clark asked, raising his eyebrow as he looked at the 115 lbs stacked on the barbell.
"yeah," bruce said. "i've got three more warm up sets, and then my main sets of 145."
clark just nodded as bruce settled himself on the bench and got to lifting once again. clark took his place as bruce's spotter once more and watched him lift.
he would have to come over uninvited more often if it meant getting to see bruce like this.
🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♂️
i love clark being fascinated by how humans work. the human body is a really cool thing tbh
also, the bit with lois actually happened in the comics! it was in the man of steel (1986) #4, go check it out

clark kent spring break week day five - giant of the waves
in which bruce goes on a research trip off the coast of new jersey... if hanging out with his leviathan boyfriend counts as research. for the prompt mermaid au (and possibly swimming with sharks).
oh yeah, you KNOW my monster lovin ass was all over this prompt when i saw it. some of you might remember that a while back, i posted a few sketches and ideas for a giant!mer!clark au, and this prompt is letting me play with that, so this one's gonna be a lot of fun for me.
without further ado, enjoy!
🦈🦈🦈
bruce kept his eyes on the horizon as he sailed his boat far beyond the coast. given, this area of new jersey wasn't the most popular for boating, especially while the weather was still somewhat chilly, but he had to be sure he wasn't being followed. as far as his research partners were concerned, bruce was investigating a potential new species of shark, which wasn't entirely a lie.
deciding he'd gone out far enough, bruce stopped the boat and went portside, where sat a cooler with a fresh snapper in it. he watched the water for a bit, hauled back and threw the fish overboard into the water. for a moment, nothing happened. other fish came up to nibble at the catch, but for the most part, it remained undisturbed.
then, from deep in the dark, bruce saw a huge shape rising to the surface. bruce had just enough time to back away from the edge of the boat before a massive shape snapped up the fish like it was nothing. the creature breached the water like a whale, sending up waves which mercilessly rocked bruce's boat.
and yet, bruce wasn't afraid. if anything, the look on his face said that this was exactly what he'd wanted to see.
the creature resurfaced with a spray of water around it, and bruce could finally see who he'd come to visit. he was a merman of the giant variety, a leviathan in every sense of the word. from the waist up, he resembled a great, strong man. his skin had a blue-gray tint to it, marred by the occasional scar. big, brilliant blue eyes fixed bruce with a curious expression. his mane of wavy black hair cascaded down his neck and back. finned ears twitched in different directions, paying attention to everything around him. the rest of him resembled a great white shark, complete with a tall fin on his back and a muscular tail marked with battle scars.
"hey there, clark," bruce said, looking up to meet the giant shark man's gaze. "i missed you."
he knew it wasn't exactly the most majestic name for a creature like clark, but it seemed to fit him. admittedly, bruce had chosen the name from an actor he'd had a crush on growing up. sure, it was childish, but he couldn't help himself with how beautiful clark was to him.
clark grinned down at bruce, revealing a mouthful of serrated teeth, and started to hum, a noise akin to whale song. bruce had been around clark so much that he'd started to pick up on what different songs meant, and he knew that this one was meant just for him. truth be told, bruce wasn't sure if clark could understand his language yet. the two just seemed to have a general understanding of each other, which made bruce feel like the luckiest man alive.
something about now felt off to bruce, though. peering over the side of the boat and into the water, he noticed something that looked like it was stuck to clark's tail.
"what's that?" bruce asked, pointing to the glint in the water. clark turned his head away, ears falling, before lifting part of his tail out of the water to reveal a rather large fishing hook embedded in his tail.
"ouch," bruce mumbled to himself. louder, he said, "here, let me see," as he motioned to clark's tail. clark gave bruce a nervous look, but eventually moved his tail closer to the boat, allowing bruce to reach it.
"who did this to you?" bruce murmured under his breath as he inspected it. he knew he couldn't just tug the hook out, lest it tear through clark and do more damage. an idea popped into bruce's head, and he ran to grab something from inside the cockpit. sure enough, hiding somewhere amid research equipment, was an as of yet unused tackle box. it, along with a sturdy rod, had been a gift from some of his socialite friends when he'd first gotten the boat. while bruce was never too fond of fishing, he was grateful for their gift now as he rifled through the box and found some wire cutters.
returning to the port, bruce settled himself next to clark's tail and got to work. he gingerly pulled on the hook, which made clark hiss and flare his gills, but bruce murmured an apology as he lifted a long section of hook away from the tail. then, he snapped the hook in two pieces with the wire cutters and pulled the separate parts out of clark's tail without the barb catching.
"there we go," bruce said, patting clark's tail a few times. the giant shark man let out an excited trill and splashed back into the water, circling the boat. bruce felt himself start to smile, amused at such a giant creature behaving so playfully.
after a few laps around the boat, clark made his way back around to bruce and extended his webbed, clawed hand towards the edge of the boat. bruce nodded once and climbed over the edge of the boat, stepping into clark's palm. clark lifted bruce up to his chest and wrapped both hands around him in a hug, humming gently.
this was what bruce had come here for. this was an opportunity most could only experience in their dreams. here, bruce could feel this incredible creature's strength, the gentleness of his hands, the rise and fall of his chest, the might of his slow, steady heartbeat, a hum so deep bruce could feel it in his entire body.
clark leaned back in the water, floating on the surface, and began to swim in lazy loops around the boat. bruce lifted his head and saw clark watching him with a smile, eyes full of bliss. bruce smiled and rested his head against clark's chest, relaxing in his grip.
bruce knew he would have to return to the shore, but that could wait. for now, the only people in the world were bruce and his lonely leviathan, and he wouldn't have it any other way.
🦈🦈🦈
fun fact: sharks can have favorite people. more evidence as to why sharks are cool and deserve love.
i have a whole au in my head where clark is this powerful guardian protecting against eldritch horrors from the deep, but for now, have this softness between giant shark boy and his researcher bf.

clark kent spring break week day four - good boys go bad
in which clark and pete sneak into club zero - and clark runs into the one person he didn't expect. title taken from "good girls go bad" by cobra starship. for the prompt fake id.
i've been itching to write lex being his shameless freak self, not to mention i just love clark being waaaay out of his depth, so i present to you, this. keep in mind i have never been to a club before, so i'm basing all of my knowledge for this fic on the club zero episode in season one. i'm a big baby, i know
without further ado, enjoy!
🎶🎶🎶
this was a terrible idea.
clark had known it ever since it had been brought up. he had no clue how in the world pete had gotten ahold of those fake ids to begin with, and at this point, he wasn't inclined to ask. normally, any guy or girl in smallville high would've been itching to get their hands on a fake id and do something reckless. but for clark, who felt like the world was constantly watching him (because, in some ways, it was), this idea could only end badly. in the best case scenario, his mom and dad would find out about it and ground him for god knows how long. at worst, he might accidentally unleash his powers somehow, and then he'd be in the spotlight as the underage drunk alien from the middle of nowhere, kansas. yes, this was a certified bad idea.
it didn't stop him from going through with it.
just this once, he promised himself as he waited in line to reach the bouncer. just once, and then never again.
part of him hoped he'd get kicked out for having a fake id, but to his and pete's joint surprise, they managed to get in. pete had to hold in his excitement until they got a few feet inside, so as to not arouse suspicion from the bouncer.
"i can't believe this worked!" pete said in a raised whisper to clark. "dude, this place is sick!"
"it's a bit too loud for my taste," clark said with an awkward laugh. it came out as a joke, but his super hearing made the music ring in his ears.
"come on, clark, this is the perfect chance for you to get over your lana crush!" pete pointed out. "find some pretty girl, get her number..."
clark wasn't listening, trying to take in all the sounds and sights. the sea of bodies undulating around him, the pulsing of the bass, the flashing lights, the whole atmosphere blended together in an overstimulating haze, everything vying for his attention.
"hey, uh, clark?" pete said, moving back over to clark's side. "i'm gonna see if i can get this girl's number, you have fun, alright?"
"huh?" clark whirled around to face pete, but pete's eyes weren't on clark. they were looking right over his shoulder at someone behind him.
"good luck," pete said, nodding at clark before making a beeline for the bar. clark didn't realize what pete's deal was until he heard a familiar voice behind him.
"never thought i'd see you around here, clark."
clark turned around only to see lex right behind him, head tilted to one side, an amused smile on his face.
clark made a mental note to hang pete upside down from the windmill by his boxers when they got back to smallville.
"hey, lex!" clark said, trying his best to look innocent. "didn't realize you'd be here!"
lex chuckled as he began to circle clark. "don't worry, no one else will know you're here."
"why?" clark asked. "you're not gonna take the fall for me, are you?"
lex stopped walking and turned to face clark. "i'm just not going to tell anyone," he said bluntly. "i don't want you getting in any hot water back home."
"thanks," clark said, his tone a little uneasy. lex just nodded as he made his way over to a loveseat and sat down. clark followed right behind and took a seat next to him, not wanting to be alone in this ocean of unfamiliarity.
"see anyone you're interested in?" lex asked, gesturing to the people all around. clark swept his eyes around the mass of dancing bodies, though he found it difficult to focus on one person at a time.
"not really," clark shrugged. "what about you?"
lex nodded and said, "a few. not sure if i'll make a move on them, though."
"is that why you usually come here?" clark asked over the din. "find a girl to bring back to the mansion?"
lex smiled a bit and said, "sometimes. sometimes i look for a guy. it all depends."
clark heard a record screech in his head. "you like guys?" he asked.
"i'm bisexual, clark," lex said casually. "i find both men and women attractive." he scoffed and said, "of course, my father would prefer to keep that information under wraps."
clark just nodded, taking in the new information. an image popped into his head of lex making out with another man, and he felt his face start to heat up.
"why is that?" he asked, trying to distract himself from his thoughts.
"my father said that having a queer son would be a pr nightmare," lex said, his voice dripping with disdain. "as if he could be any more of a hypocrite."
he sighed, crossed one leg over the other, and asked, "how about you, clark? which way do you swing, if you don't mind me asking?"
clark glanced over to lex, gulping as his little fantasy popped back into his head. "honestly?" he said as he broke eye contact. "i think i like guys and girls too. i don't know. i mean, i think about girls more, but sometimes, i just..." clark shook his head, unable to find the words to articulate his thoughts.
"that's how it was for me," lex said. "it took me a while to fully embrace it. now, it's just a part of me."
clark smiled, a bit inspired by lex's confidence. he oozed self-assuredness, and even though clark knew that there was a vulnerable man beneath the surface, he still wanted to emulate some of lex's quiet strength.
adrift in his thoughts again, clark's fantasy cropped back up, only this time, instead of some club rando, lex was making out with clark, and the younger man could feel himself blushing again.
"are you alright, clark?" lex asked, noticing the nervous look on clark's face. "are you feeling ok?"
clark would've said, "yeah, i'm fine," but as he turned to look at lex, he found himself mesmerized. he'd hated the sensory nightmare of the club when he first came in, but as he looked into lex's eyes, everything seemed to fall into place. the booming bass drowned out the sounds of the people around him, letting him focus on lex. the lighting cast rays of blue and green and pink over his angled face. here, clark saw lex in a new light, a new and incredibly alluring light.
"do you wanna get out of here?" lex asked. the words might as well have been honey to clark, golden and sweet and perfect.
"i came here with pete," clark offered, a flimsy excuse to preserve some shred of dignity.
"we can come back later," lex said, a smirk turning the corner of his lips. "i know a place where we can go if you need to relax."
clark gulped, watching as lex's eyes glanced down at his lips, then met his gaze again. "sounds good," clark said, a nervous smile on his face.
"are you sure?" lex asked, leaning in just a bit more, moving one hand to lace his fingers with clark's.
clark took a deep breath, then met lex's eye again and nodded firmly. "i'm sure," he said, summoning all the confidence he could muster.
the smirk on lex's face grew into a serene smile, and he rose from the loveseat, still holding clark's hand. clark got up and followed lex through the horde of people, unable to stop smiling from excitement.
in his head, clark had a change of plans. he would have to thank pete for the ids when they returned home.
🎶🎶🎶
lionel luthor is queer and homophobic and he pushed that on lex. john glover told me himself
also yeah i know this doesn't line up with smallville canon, but if it means i get an excuse to write fics like this, so be it. i swear i am trying so hard to keep watching, the website i just use keeps going down which makes watching this damn show difficult lkjsfdlaj
