Roger Pirates Headcanon:
There was a time that Shanks was angry at Buggy, when they were younger. He probably had a good reason, to be angry, since - granted - Buggy could sometimes be a little bit of a dick. However, his retaliation in typical young boy fashion went a little too far.
It was only a short while after Buggy had eaten the devil fruit, and the subject was still touchy. So, because Buggy had pissed Shanks off so much, he decided to tell him that, now that the captain couldn't sell the fruit - after all, Buggy had stolen and eaten it - he would simply have to sell Buggy to make up for the losses.
At first, Buggy pretended like he didn't believe a single word Shanks had said, but the thought stuck with him, and soon he was convinced that if he took a wrong step Roger would do exactly what Shanks had prophesied.
For a while, Rayleigh was pleasantly surprised to find Buggy on his best behavior. In fact, it had been a good few days without any major fusses of the young cabin boy. That changed however, when Buggy made a mistake, maybe he broke something or forgot to do something he was tasked with, with to Rayleigh's surprise ended with the boy having an entire meltdown, about not wanting to be sold and that he could do better, and it took him quite a while to understand what the kid was babbling about.

I touched on this a little bit in 'A promise is a promise is a promise is a...' but I feel like it needs to be said again.
When the rest of the Roger Pirates went to Laugh Tale without the two cabin boys, there was a big difference.
Shanks chose to stay behind.
Buggy got left behind.
Now, don't get me wrong, I - Cipher - fully understand that Buggy was very sick and that taking him would have been quite harmful and negligent - not just for Buggy himself but for the rest of the crew as well, because who knew if the sickness could have spread. Also, for all we know and how things appear to be at the moment, they could have had a very narrow window of time to actually reach the island. That being said, this is not about me understanding this, but Buggy. And Buggy with his extreme inferiority complex and being, well, a child - or young teen - probably did not see the reason behind this.
To him, he probably felt like he was denied from going to Laugh Tale.
And then, after Roger's execution, when Buggy asked Shanks if they would set out for Laugh Tale and Shanks explained that he wasn't ready, Shanks once again chose not to go there. While Buggy, once again, was denied.

Time for one of my opinions:
As a kid, Buggy was just as much a trouble maker and in certain ways even more so as Shanks. Sure he was scared in fights and life threatening situations but his desire for adventure was strong! And he would get them into all kinds of trouble, he was just worse at getting them out of it again. In a way young Shanks and Buggy remind me of Merry and Pippin. Both trouble makers, both idiots (affectionate) just one a little better at dealing with the situations they got in.
- Also, I can totally see Shanks saying something like:
"He's always followed me. Everywhere I went, since before we were were tweens. I would get him into the worst sort of trouble. But I was always there to get him out. And now he's gone."

So I am rewatching One Piece for my "One Piece 'Book' Club" aka the thing were we meet up and talk about one piece and cry a little, like sane people.
And I have to say, I love that Luffy says no to Nami's initial offer to team up (in orange Town, ep. 5) like a kid that's been taught not to take candy form strangers.

Do you think Luffy would be "mad" (note that this is not necessarily the right word, I just can't think of a better one) when/if he learns about the "Nothing Happened" moment?
Because to Luffy, dying while trying to become the Pirate King is fine. He thinks that as long as he is always doing his best to achieve his dream, he can't really fail at it, even if he dies, right?
Meanwhile to Zoro dying before achieving his Dream means he would fail Kuina, and sort of break his promise to her (back in East Blue he alluded to that, when he was about to be shot by Morgan's men)
So would Luffy see Zoro accepting death as him abandoning his dream, even if just for a moment?

@jazminetoad I put it under the cut, because it has gotten a little longer than I expected
I have to admit, this one had me stumped for a second. But then it hit me!
Beauty and the Beast AU or more precisely a Story based solely on these lyrics from Beauty and the Beast:
"There's something sweet And almost kind But he was mean and he was coarse and unrefined But now he's dear, and so unsure I wonder why I didn't see it there before"
And I know what people are going to say "dear, unsure?", Cipher, that's just out of character and to that I say... okay yeah, maybe! But come on! That man is so 眉ber confident, I am SURE that there is at least one part of his life, where he is a little shy. It must be. And I am deciding to take creative freedom and say that part of his life is experience.
Okay, now that that is out of the way, let's get this started.
For the sake of this story we would have to get Nami on the Victoria Punk - for my mental state's sake, I'm going to pretend that the recent chapter didn't happen. How exactly that happens isn't of much importance to us. Maybe there was a hot exit required on the last island and with the ninja-pirate-mink-samurai-alliance still going strong, Nami had to board Kid's ship. [It's okay though, they will meet with the Sunny as soon as possible]
Now on the Kid Pirates Ship we get a bit of a "Barbosa and Elisabeth Swan" Moment, where Kid in all his "maturity" decides, to try and scare Nami with his crew. After all, the aesthetic of the Sunny, vs the aesthetic of the Victoria are... different. However, he does not expect Nami to be as unfazed as she is. Sure, she is a little weirded out by some of their antics, but beneath it all she sees a crew that deeply cares about each other. And she can relate to that.
She also reprimands Kid and tells him, that it is foolish of him to assume that the Sunny can't get as rowdy as the Punk, just because their color scheme is different.
At this point, Kid say something along the line of: "You pretty princesses always get scared of shit like this."
Which would lead beautifully into a "You think I'm pretty?" "No-, I said you look shitty!" Situation, btw.
That kicks off a sort of "rivalry", where both Kid and Nami will try to antagonize the other [Nami is far more successful in riling Kid up, because Kid is easily riled up] and they settle quite well into that dynamic. It almost turns into some kind of game.
Now, a few days into them lying low - again, the reason for that is to be decided - Nami decides to take a peak at Kid's maps - to see if there is any information she can take from them, that she doesn't already have herself.
While doing that, she stumbles across some of his mechanical drawings. Of things, he built or wants to build etc. She also sees that quite a few of them have a some splashes of ink or lines, where they shouldn't be any.
So she decides to show Kid, how she draws on the Sunny, so that her ink won't smear - even with a rowdy crew.
Kid is, surprisingly mellow at the time, maybe even thankful for the tip - not that he would admit that - and they get talking. About how and why they spend their times drawing on their ships. Neither reveals their full backstory, but it is enough to ensure that the other understands why their work is important to them.
They get surprisingly close during their conversation and Nami realizes that Kid has a far softer side to him, something she saw glimpses of before, when he protected his crew. It is a welcome change to his usual brash behavior, and she finds it strangely endearing, when he blushes and pulls away, when they get a little too close to each other.
Nami uses this moment in his quarters to steal something of his - something not too important, just a little trinket she can keep. But something that, once noticed, he would miss.
So when a while later the Sunny and the Victoria meet up and Nami returns to her own crew, she shows Kid the trinket just a few seconds before the Sunny bursts away. Thus, starting a cat and mouse game, where every time the two crews meet, Kid and Nami will try to steal something off the other (Nami is FAR more successful, but Kid manages ones or twice) until FINALLY one of them steals a kiss!

Suddenly struck with a need to explain to you how boat pronouns work (I work in the marine industry).
When you're talking about the design of the boat, you say "it".
When the boat is still being built, your say "it".
When the boat is nearing completion, you can say "it" or "she".
When the boat is floating in the water you probably say "she", unless there is still a lot of work to be done (e.g. no engine yet) then you say "it".
When the boat is officially launched and operating, you say "she". If you continue to say "it" at this point you are not incorrect but suspiciously untraditional. You are not playing the game.
If you are referring to a boat you don't really know anything about you may say "it" ("there's a big boat, it's coming this way"). But if you know its name, it's probably "she" ("there's the Waverley, she's on her way to Greenock").
If you are talking about boats in general, you say "it" ("when a boat is hit by a wave it heels over")
If you speak about a boat in complimentary terms, it's "she" ("she's a grand boat"). If you are being disparaging it may be it, but not necessarily ("it's as ugly as sin", "she's a grotty old tub").
If she has a boy's name, she's still she. "Boy James", "King Edward", "Sir David Attenborough"? The pronoun is she.
If it's a dumb barge (no engine), you say it. But if it's a rowing boat (no engine), you say she.
I hope this has cleared things up so that you may not be in danger of misgendering floating objects.

I know I am usually here for the sad Buggy content. But let's explore the sad Shanks content for a second.
Imagine you are the golden boy. The one everyone celebrates, the one who is supposed to one day fill your captains, your idols, shoes. Of course you have doubts. Of course you are worried that you will never live up to the myth everyone makes of you. You are strong, but can you ever truly be strong enough?
And then your captain dies, the time for you to be the person everyone expects you to be, has come. But you can't. You just can't. You are a teenager, you barely started being you, how can you become a myth?
So you decide that you will wait, you want to be yourself just for a little bit longer and when you turn to your best friend, the one who always stood by your side, and tell him that you don't want to step into your captains footprints yet he rejects you. He turns you down and calls you a coward.
Guess that must hurt.
