a wee update + a surprise
Hi all! I know I’m terrible at devlogs and keeping y’all updated in general, and I’m so sorry for that!! Self-imposed deadlines are my enemy, apparently.
A couple weeks ago, I thought I was thisclose to having chapter 2 released in full…but then I realized that I was only truly happy with about half of what I had written. I talked about it with the besties on the Discord server who convinced me that I shouldn’t release until I’m legit super happy with it, so now here we are.
To be completely honest, I’m far from happy with the chapter. BUT all the writer’s block lately has given me time to play around with coding…yay? And I was thinking that maybe it’d be fun to release….
💜 a free twine sugarcube 2 template 💜
I’m not an expert at HTML/CSS or JavaScript by any means, so there are probably plenty of ways to make this template better. But I’m hoping that having another template floating around out there (in addition to the fabulous templates by vahnya, cerberus, & nyehilism) could benefit all of the IF authors either just getting started with their game or trying to make the switch from CS<3
Please let me know if something isn’t working correctly or you have any questions or suggestions! I still consider myself to be fairly newbie when it comes to all of this, but I’ve been having a lot of fun learning more about custom templates so I figured I’d share the love.
Features include:

Custom save names/autosaving features
Settings for changing light/dark modes, fonts, & font size
Settings for toggling notifications & dialog tags

✨ FREE TWINE TEMPLATE ✨
Seeing as a lot of IF authors are now considering making the move from ChoiceScript to Twine, but are finding it a little daunting (understandably), I thought I would release my OOTB design/UI as a template for people to use and tweak into their own, as I know one of the biggest worries people have is not being able to play the game on mobile. Just wanted to help in any way I can, I feel so bad for everyone using CS.
I put this together rather quickly, so I’m not 100% everything works lol. Please let me know if something doesn’t work, or looks off, and I’ll fix it asap. Also, feel free to let me know if you want me to add more features, styles or explanations to it, as I wasn’t really sure how much to include? I didn’t populate the stat pages, because I assume people will want to make it their own? But I’m happy to add more if you want more included, or assist if you need help navigating it.
Just thought I would provide this as a sort of starting point for people, so feel free to change it up however you please.

Stuff I’ve finished:
Added ~2k to K’s route. (Total 7k)
Added 2 (new) images to K’s route!
You can now choose between some horrible breakfast items including, cereal with ice water.
Meet grandma (she’s everyone’s grandma) and choose between ice cream sandwich, Baozi, or Dumplings!
Character personalization choices in ur apartment!
add an image gallery! (for the characters) (all the characters now have art!)
Changes:
K’s name is now Kay (officially lol) i changed it u_u F to past me but ketamine is still unofficially their name & Kay is still pronounced “K”
added some touch adverse options
Making choosing pronouns more obvious & choices for gender choice more clearly labeled
making choosing if you identified as cis or trans more obvious
made for the option to change your pronouns if you ID’d as trans
added a front page warning list & contact info
all versions of Yuu & Shun are now in the character gallery.

Notes/Feedback:
Are the flashbacks in K’s route confusing :< please lemme know!
In the shop scene when you meet Shun they call you “Sir” by default regardless of gender to sort of emulate the different pronoun(?) choices you could use for “I” in japanese. And in alot of game/media I’ve seen female superior in military adjacent organizations be called “Sir.” I am trying to emulate that here. But I want to know if it makes people uncomfortable bc there’s no need to include it if it does!

That is correct, we’re opening mod applications once again!
This blog proves to be lots of work in order to keep an active queue, keeping track of all the updates and events, answering rec lists, hosting events… and so on. On top of that, as mods all of the team is currently extremely busy with real-life ordeals and haven’t been able to give as much attention to the blog as we’d love to.
So, for that reason: Are you interested in creating a more united interactive fiction community, giving a voice to all authors and their various works, and helping us sort out all of our asks and recommendations we try to provide?
Then we welcome you to fill in our application!
There’s no set deadline as of right now, but once we consider we’ve gotten enough applications and we’ve decided who we want to incorporate into our team, we will announce it right here!

I just started reading the demo and I’m honestly really interested in where it’s heading. (Like, superpowers? Cyberpunk dystopia? Fashion designing? Yes please!) Though in the beginning, there seems to be a problem with a set of choices- there are two choices to be shorter than Eros, and only one to be the same height as him. There doesn’t seem to be an option to be taller than him.
I’m so glad you like it!!! ;o;; glad my niche interests are not so niche after all which is a gr8 feeling tbh.
AND that is because Eros is 6’1 and being a short king myself I am like “there’s NO way peole are taller than that” but I am once again wrong and will add a taller than Eros option in uwu thank you for the suggestion!

Hi! I've noticed you often write "your" instead of "you're", so I thought I'd give you an example.
"[...] your more demanding abilities [...]" is correct.
"Your hurt" is not, though. A couple times before that you've used "your" instead of "you're" as well. Just thought I'd point it out so you can easily fix it.
Yea! Honestly, I have adhd and have a hard time catching these things :/ but they do take away from immersion and a good reading experience! So thanks for bringing that to my attention, tbh what I’ll do is just like a max fix/ slow read thru everything and try to catch them as I come across them u_u no doubt some (or a lot in my case lol) will slip thru but I’ll try my best!!!

Hi, this is the anon from before, about the height choices ask. Ok, just one more question and I’ll finish bugging you, honest. I did a flashback to Sophomore year in the demo and Eros starts calling me Bella when that wasn’t the name I gave my mc. Jdhdh I think it’s a bug or something. Anyway, have a great day/night/whatever!
Honestly, I’m thinking about changing that to be honest, it was supposed to be “beautiful” in Italian but maybe that’s too werid/focused on looks? Like what if u were called “precious” in English lol so I’m gonna think of another nickname probably! Maybe something a little more jabby or an inside joke 😊
