What if it's a "surprise tool" for season 5? And we get a big ronance moment? Cause even after time and distance, Robin still knows Nancy's favorite music 🥹
every day i remember the fact that the "robin saving nancy from vecna with the tapes" theory got acknowledged by netflix and got a whole screenrant article on it and i mourn what we could have had

I know stancy shippers bank on Nancy diving in after Steve and taking care of his wounds. And Ronance shippers talk about how Nancy worries about Robin. But I don't think any of that can be a strong point for either ship.
That's just Nancy being Nancy.
When they're looking for Nancy's guns in the upside-down she says, "there's a 6 year old in the house. I know where I keep my guns."
Nancy cares about her people and she cares about their safety. Always.
All that to say if you remove that aspect, Ronance has a stronger case. Ronance forever.

If Season 5 is about things coming full circle and the Duffers want to go back to the groups from Season 1 then that would mean Robin fills the spot of Barb. With this all in mind, the best way to end Nancy’s character arc is by having her choose Robin(this can be in a platonic or romantic sense but I obviously would prefer romantic) over the love triangle. It would be an amazing way to bring everything back to her trauma and regret over not choosing her friend the first time.

Ive wondered if Fred and the friend that died were closeted together. What's worse than guilt over a friend dying, but that friend also being your lover.
Fred Benson and Nancy Wheeler. Fred Benson and Nancy Wheeler. Fred Benson and Nancy Wheeler and the way their trauma is so so so so similar to the point of, in episode 2, Vecna could have chosen Nancy instead of him.
The way Nancy could be the one ending up dead by the end of episode 2, because she too carries the trauma of a dead friend -- because she too views herself as the cause of Barb's death -- because she too was thrown in the grave of the dead best friend and forced to watch her body decaying and oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god, this is haunting me because no one would have been able to do a thing like they did with Max.

This whole scene drives me nuts. Especially when I see people ship Nancy with Jonathan. He brings up the real world, and this would be their reality outside of all the supernatural battles.
When they initially get fired Nancy looks down, but Jonathan looks over at Nancy. He blames her. No one forced Jonathan to go along with Nancy, but he pins it on her. Nancy doesn't deserve someone who shifts blame onto her for actions they were equally responsible for. Or for coming from a wealthy family. For her to call it the "Oliver Twist Routine" suggests he's weaponized his circumstances before, and also means he's not asking for understanding just an out for his behavior. Honestly this scene makes it seem like he resents her.
Contrast this with Robin, who only brings up that she's poor to explain why she doesn't have a license. Not to berate someone. And the whole speech at Penhurst shows Robin gets it.
Robin's speech is similar to Nancy's talk with her mom after getting fired. Karen calls those guys shitheads and tells Nancy to finish the story. She validates and encourages Nancy, which is what Jonathan should have done and what Robin actually does in S4.

Nancy deserves better part 4
S2 Jonathan lies about taking Nancy home from the party. He says that Steve told him to. Now when you watch Steve after the breakup, he clearly leaves the party and doesn't even look in Jonathan's direction.
Now unless the Duffers cut a scene, which I doubt, then Jonathan completely lied to Nancy. Why lie about seeing a drunk friend get home safely? Unless you're worried about being seen as creep. Which is valid if you took stalker photos of that friend taking their shirt off; and not only took the photos, but developed prints of them.
So S2, Jonathan lies. S4 Jonathan lies. Interesting that a journalistic warrior, a truth seeker, ends up with a liar as a sidekick.
S2 he also gives Nancy grief for only waiting a month to get back with Steve. I mean dude how long was she supposed to wait? Plus she's literally making a move telling him she waited, and he uses it as an opportunity to express the resentment he's clearly been holding onto.
Sidenote: Nancy figured out they had to water down their "Hawkins lab Barb confession" just from Murray watering his vodka down. That moment mimics Robin and Nancy's team detective energy. Robin is like a teenage lady Murray haha. I will say Murray is a little wrong. Jonathan and Nancy don't have chemistry, just tension.

Nancy deserves better part 3
Steve does not take time to recognize Nancy's emotions. He also doesn't acknowledge the reality of things and wants to see things as they were, instead of as they are. Watching S2 and comparing to S4 it's kind of a problem. Especially since it hasn't changed.
S2 Nancy is clearly still dealing with Barb's death, the guilt over the cause, and having to pretend like she doesn't know Barb is actually dead and not just missing. She gets up from the dinner table to deal with it while at Barb's, and cries in the bathroom. Surely Steve would've noticed that, but that would've been off screen so benefit of the doubt there. Then in the study room Nancy tells Steve directly, that she can't keep doing this.
While Steve acknowledges this, and makes valid points about keeping everyone safe by keeping everything secret, he doesn't validate her emotions. Instead he tries to brush it off by suggesting that they still go to the party, and essentially do what they've been doing the whole year. Pretend everything is fine.
Nancy catches a lot of flack for drunkenly calling her relationship with Steve bullshit. But in the grand scheme of things what else can you call a relationship where you don't acknowledge the trauma and guilt of your partner, and pretend like your whole world wasn't turned upside down? ( pun intended)
S4 vol 2 after Nancy describes everything Vecna showed her, Steve writes it off as Vecna just trying to scare her. While this is partly true, if that's all he was doing he would've just shown her visions of Barb. Vecnas vision wasn't a scare so much as a promise. Steve doesn't want to acknowledge the reality of what Vecna plans to do, and Vecna didn't just try to scare Nancy. He did. You can hear it in her voice. The fearless Nancy Wheeler, that had stared down a speeding vehicle, was clearly shaken.
Nancy doesn't need someone that is going to run over her emotions like a speed bump. Even if it's not malicious, it still happens. It's an incompatibility. Steve looks over her emotions, Jonathan looks over her intellectually (which I will cover later). Robin meets her on both levels.

Why these boys don't deserve Nancy part 2
Steve and Jonathan both challenge Nancy about who she is, and not in a growth kind of way. They have a made up, idealized version of who she ought to be. For Steve, it's the good girl gone bad. For Jonathan, it's the good girl who doesn't conform. They both polarize her personality.
Women are allowed to party and still want to study. They can diverge from the norm and still want to conform. Which is the Nancy we get in S4. Which is part of why neither of these boys work.
Even with Steve's growth he still has an idealized future with Nancy, and it doesn't acknowledge the fact she doesn't want a nuclear family. Sure he mentions seeing the country in an RV, but what are the Harrington brood gonna be doing the rest of the year? Living the nuclear lifestyle.
With Jonathan we see him doubt Nancy in S3, and she was right the whole time. Then in S4 he thinks telling her about college will make her give up her dreams and move to be with him... Jonathan. Boy. Whatever Nancy you think will do that isn't our Nancy. Has he even paid attention to her drive and instinct? Does he even know her outside of their shared trauma?
S3 Robin thought Nancy was a priss. She then witnesses her being a badass, changes her views, and from that point going into S4 assumes the best in Nancy. Even with the Creel theory she assumed the best in Nancy, then doubted her, but ended up calling Nancy a genius. Later Robin states Nancy is full of surprises. And we can't forget her digging through Nancy's room. Robin quickly let her assumptions of Nancy be shattered and from that point was curious to know she really was.
Again Duffers. Who's the healthiest choice here?
Shoot, let Nance be single if she's not with Robin.

That Tom Cruise poster has been up since S1. Probably the last symbol of Nancy's heterosexuality 😂
I mean think about it, it's old and still hanging up. She's been getting rid of old stuff, but Tom remains.

Neither of those boys deserve Nancy Wheeler like Robin does.
I'm rewatching season 1 and from the first episode Steve is incredibly coercive and doesn't respect Nancy's boundaries. (He's changed a lot / amazing character arc, but even in S4 he's trying to push his nugget dream on Nancy)
Then we have Jonathan who completely violates consent by taking the photos of Nancy. (Also has some great development/ love his moments with Will, but in S4 lied and continued to lie about college)
Then there's Robin who the minute she felt like Nancy was upset with her, despite barely knowing her, tried to clear the air. (Only lie she keeps is for her own safety in a homophobic era / tries to suggest the Steve relationship, but readjusts her views in the woods after hearing Nancy out)
Who's the healthiest option Duffers?

Quick ronance analysis cause I'm fixated
NANCY LITERALLY SHAKES HER HEAD NO after Steve tosses his keys to Robin in the first gif.
Tumblr media
In the second one Robin says "this is stupid" and Nancy nods in agreement.
Tumblr media
Nancy totally preferred Robin coming with her over Steve.
Honestly I think it's because Robin didn't see her as a damsel in distress and just wanted to get the show on the road.

That shot in the dark research day? Nancy was jealous of Steve, not Robin.
Steve has clearly been in multiple dating scenarios with different women. Even at the basketball game he brought a girl with him. Do we really think detective Nancy hasn't noticed that?
So what would make someone so prickly if it isn't jealousy? Well she wasnt sure about her Creel theory, and already had her doubts. Perhaps she was defensive and didnt want to sound silly. But no one else was 100% sure what was going on in their theories either. However, people have pointed out that Jonathan didnt believe her theory the last time. So her confidence in her intuition was probably a little rocked.
So with Robin asking all these questions, albeit genuine, Nancy could've felt like she was being mocked. But if that was the reason for her attitude, why would the attitude only drop after Robin stated her and Steve were platonic?
What else can bring up someone's defenses? Being confronted by things you aren't ready to confront yet.
Nancy was clearly agitated by Robin, but only when they were alone. In the group setting at the trailer park she was fine with Robin, and Robin was sitting right next to her. But when you're unsure of your feelings, especially new ones for the same gender, the group setting is safe. Alone with them is not.
Imagine you're Nancy. The girl you've been thinking about (not sure if you're attracted to or whatever it is but it's something) has good rapport with your ex, suddenly volunteers to ride with you, it's just the two of you for almost two hours, and on top of that she starts questioning your theories. How are you supposed to feel? She even asks if she's offended you, but even you can't pinpoint what's bothering you.
Then she states she's not with Steve, and the agitation doesn't dissolve. It stays for a moment, because something in Nancy has been called out, but then it turns into a different tension.
Nancy doesn't even say "Robin I'm not worried about you and Steve. " Because she can't say that. Not only is it untrue, but if she did it would lead to follow up questions. Nancy is a journalist, she knows certain types of answers lead to more questions. Questions like "then what is it?" or "you say I haven't offended you but obviously I've done something". Keep your response short. An answer thats not really an answer. It's easier to let Robin think it's jealousy over Steve, instead of something else. Instead of jealousy OF Steve.
Robin, is Nancy's Tammy Thompson.
