We are throwing back to my favorite childhood book series for today’s autistic headcanon. Junie B. Jones! I’ve seen this one talked about a bit before, but I love this series so much as a kid so I’m going to talk about why I think Junie B. Is autistic.
Of course I know she’s literally 6 years old but she has tremendous excitement for activities and new ideas and even when her parents or peers tell her that she is “too excited” she doesn’t know how to not be that way.
She very often says inappropriate things and speaks at inappropriate times and expresses confusion when told so. She clearly doesn’t pick up on the cues.
She shifts friend groups around and definitely engages in a lot of social copying.
She’s sometimes considered bossy in her friend groups.
She has a non-feminine gender presentation. She doesn’t really engage with traditional views of femininity.
She really doesn’t like change or when things don’t go to plan even when that plan is just invented in her head.
When she upsets her friends for any reason she never understand why and has to have it explained to her.
She has absolutely no sense of her body in space.
I’d have to do a reread to pick up on any stims but honestly I’m just so excited to realize why I identified with her so much.
