Sorry we put your autistic boyfriend in the fandom and they completely infantilised him. Sorry yeah he's an innocent baby who's never even heard of a sex and doesn't know a single swearword now. Yeah they're treating him like the team kid and calling his friends his parents I'm so sorry about this. Yeah I know he's committed felonies in canon but it doesn't matter it's too late now I'm sorry
so as all imazighen know, finding sources about our people, made by our people is hard.
I'm lucky enough to have found a tiktok creator who has made a resource specifically on Amazigh Tattooing, and she is descended from the Azamura tribal group in Libya.
The Amazigh Tattooing source is linked here.
Her TikTok user is abrarduhh.
Please reblog the resource for other Imazighen, and for allies of us who wish to learn more about us and our heritage!
I'm gonna say this loud and clear even though I know y'all won't listen:
It is impossible for you as a white, western person to learn bellydance without it being appropriation.
End of. The entire reason bellydance entered western culture was because of Orientalism and fetishization of women from West Asia and North Africa (and yes that includes Turkey). The culture of bellydancing being studied, taught, and preformed in the West comes from that. You will not be able to escape it because this is so deeply entrenched in the attitude around bellydancing in the West. These attitudes have changed somewhat, certainly, but only in the name of white feminism and progressivism- and other people's culture isn't your empowerment.
For reference, I'm from where bellydancing flat out originated, and I would never walk into a Western studio. If I ever decide to pursue classes, they will be private between me and someone from my culture that I trust (which is unlikely to happen for a few reasons).
Absolutely do not learn our folk dances. They are not for you and in my opinion that is even more disrespectful than being a white bellydancer and being paid to perform what often feels like a mockery of Raqs Sharqi. There are already white styles of bellydance that take our traditional clothes, jewelry, and cosmetics and use them in horrendous and bizarre ways without you trying to take on dances that always involve traditional clothes, jewelry, and often have a fair amount of cultural or religious significance.
If you want to "appreciate" our cultures so badly, you can pay OUR dancers, who are sometimes socially maligned and struggle to get work because of white women pushing them out of the industry in their own countries. You can listen to our dancers. You can stop wearing a fake fucking bindi, "harquus", skimpy clothes based off of ours, and kanzashi all at the same time. You can stop making money off of us. You can stop trying to learn and perform dances of Indigenous groups and minority groups in our cultures that face even worse appropriation because Indigenous WANA people deal with oppression in their homeland and abroad.
Appreciation is defined on the terms to whom the culture belongs. Far and away, what I see from white bellydancers is not appreciation. It is desire to possess, to use something to elevate oneself however you see fit to do so.
A world where humans are considered similar to Analogue Horror creatures
It's just an idea that popped into my head when I was having another binge watch of analogue horrors. It can work with a normal story, the Isekai (other world) genre, or with Humans Fuck Yeah! stories, or maybe more.
Aw man, imagining an alien freaking out and recording a human in a analogue horror-esque style would both be so cool and extremely funny.
[If you see a Human in your vicinity, run away and hide.]
This is so ridiculous but it's an interesting idea, no?
