I’m just thinking about a vampire hunter who lost their arm. They replace it with a prosthetic one made out of silver. Imagining the pain when they grab a vampire, or pin them down by their neck while their skin burns under the silver and there’s nothing they can do because it hurts so much. Fingers desperately trying to find something other than the arm to grab onto to try and pry them off.

living weapon whumpee who's never known anything but pain and violence.
their existence hurts. they were made to be effective, not happy, and their masters decided that keeping them in constant pain provided better results. they're wilder, more unpredictable, and the pain keeps them from thinking straight enough to question anything.
they're only given painkillers, only allowed a respite from their seemingly endless suffering, after a successful mission. it keeps them loyal, and most importantly, teaches their brain to associate acts of violence with relief and rewards.
everyone they've ever met has treated them as a tool, a monster, or both. they don't know how to be anything else.
that is until they're rampaging through a village, destroying, killing, whatever their masters demand of them. whatever will give them a few blissful hours of numbness.
one of the villagers steps out of a ruined building and looks them straight in the eyes. whumpee expects fear, hatred, disgust, the things they see in the faces of every person who's ever crossed their path. but they see something completely different.
compassion.
whumpee is so stunned, they don't think to move or do anything at all as the villager steps closer, gently reaching out a hand to cup whumpee's face.
"oh, poor thing." they murmur, taking in the creature in front of them - part human, part animal, part machine. "they've done a number on you, huh?"
whumpee blinks at them. pain continues to course through their body, but the gentle hand on their cheek distracts them, even if just a little. all the indistinct noise in their foggy, addled mind finally goes quiet.
caretaker had stepped out in front of the being destroying their home with the intention to get through to it or die trying, and the expectation to absolutely die trying.
they did not at all expect the seemingly feral mishmash of metal, fur, and flesh to lean so heavily into their touch that they nearly collapsed into caretaker's arms.

I am so glad resources like this exist. As someone who works in the medical field, I hate that deflating feeling I get when I see or read medical inaccuracies. It makes me feel so pretentious but I just can’t fully enjoy it 😭
Ref Recs for Whump Writers
Violence: A Writer’s Guide:  This is not about writing technique. It is an introduction to the world of violence. To the parts that people don’t understand. The parts that books and movies get wrong. Not just the mechanics, but how people who live in a violent world think and feel about what they do and what they see done.
Hurting Your Characters: HURTING YOUR CHARACTERS discusses the immediate effect of trauma on the body, its physiologic response, including the types of nerve fibers and the sensations they convey, and how injuries feel to the character. This book also presents a simplified overview of the expected recovery times for the injuries discussed in young, otherwise healthy individuals.
Body Trauma: A writer’s guide to wounds and injuries. Body Trauma explains what happens to body organs and bones maimed by accident or intent and the small window of opportunity for emergency treatment. Research what happens in a hospital operating room and the personnel who initiate treatment. Use these facts to bring added realism to your stories and novels.
10 B.S. Medical Tropes that Need to Die TODAY…and What to Do Instead: Written by a paramedic and writer with a decade of experience, 10 BS Medical Tropes covers exactly that: clichéd and inaccurate tropes that not only ruin books, they have the potential to hurt real people in the real world.
Maim Your Characters: How Injuries Work in Fiction: Increase Realism. Raise the Stakes. Tell Better Stories. Maim Your Characters is the definitive guide to using wounds and injuries to their greatest effect in your story. Learn not only the six critical parts of an injury plot, but more importantly, how to make sure that the injury you’re inflicting matters.
Blood on the Page: This handy resource is a must-have guide for writers whose characters live on the edge of danger. If you like easy-to-follow tools, expert opinions from someone with firsthand knowledge, and you don’t mind a bit of fictional bodily harm, then you’ll love Samantha Keel’s invaluable handbook

Shhhh! Keep your voice down and don't be loud. Whumpee is sleeping (or has just fallen asleep).
In Caretaker's arms after being rescued.
In a hospital bed in a recovery ward (or perhaps an ICU) after receiving care and treatment or perhaps emergency surgery.
On a bed in a room in a recovery house. Bonus points for the house are that the house belongs to the Caretaker and the bed BELONGS TO CARETAKER (AND CARETAKER'S BEDROOM)!!!!
In the passenger seat. Sleep on your back in the back seat or sleep in a half-sitting position after the seat is lowered slightly on the driver's side seat. Bonus points Caretaker puts on the jacket or coat to cover Whumpee.
On the sofa in front of the fireplace.
In a wheelchair while taking a leisurely walk.
On the couch on the terrace.
On the Caretaker's lap. Bonus points with the accompaniment of Caretaker's soft voice lulling Whumpee to sleep and caressing Whumpee's hair.
Sleep leaning on the Caretaker's shoulder when sitting side by side. Bonus points when they are in a discussion with the team members and Whumpee suddenly falls asleep exhausted.
Anything you want to add?

Really enjoying the concept lately of humans crash landing on a far off planet. The planet is much like Earth, but of course the inhabitants are much different. And much more intimidating. Creatures with exceptional intelligence that equals our own, if not exceeds. Creatures with feathers and horns and claws, rivaling humans in terms of strength and agility.
The humans are met with a cautious curiosity. They keep distance from each other, studying each other from the shadows. Perhaps the humans send out their bravest to meet the strange beings. They hang around their camps, watching, waiting.
Eventually, the alien creatures attempt to befriend these smaller, strange beings that appeared on their land. Tossing food to them, much to how the cavemen tamed the wolves. Though still apprehensive, the two species slowly settle into a calm peace.
The humans begin to rely on the larger beings for food and protection, as they are much too weak without weapons to hunt the larger prey that lives on this planet and defend themselves against the beastly predators.
The others begin to find small enjoyments within the humans. The way they wrestle with each other. The way they splash in the water when the weather is hot. The decorations that they place on their skin and hair. How they interact with each other. The humans act not as pets, but as new symbiotic life within this planet.

I have been SO inactive from from account lately but I promise I’m still here. Work seems to be slowing down (not much, but some) as winter draws near so I finally have a little more time to be in my online communities.
However, (of course there always has to be a “but”) my lovely immune system seems to have let in a little influenza guest into my body, which in turn caused me to have a GI flare up of my existing conditions.
In shorter words, I promise I’ll make more of this account very soon!

Whumpee coughed as another cloud of smoke was blown into their face, their eyes squeezing shut as they closed their mouth shut as tight as they could.
"Oh quit being such a baby," Whumper scoffed, twirling a cigarette between their two fingers before bringing it closer and closer to Whumpee, smirking as they watcjed the other lean away with a whimper, eyes glistening with fear.
"Open up." Whumpee's mouth stayed glued shut, eyes suddenly burning with defiance, making Whumper chuckle, "Fine, have it your way," And with that, Whumper shoved the butt of the cigarette against Whumpee's cheek- soaking up the cry of pain from the younger.
Whumper squeezed their eyes shut;
Quit being such a baby...

BREAKING NEWS
I just learned about a bird species called Golden Plover. Their chicks have an amazing camouflage: their baby fluff resembles MOSS!
LOOK AT THEM! JUST LOOK AT THEM!
...Oh to be a tiny golden plover lying in the moss safe and sound waiting for your mom to bring you some worms...

Whumpee being so scared or delirious when they're being rescued that they put up hell of a fight, so while Caretaker is in front of them keeping their hands up, assuring Whumpee that they're not there to hurt them, a Team member sneaks behind Whumpee's back and knocks them out because it's the only way to get them out as soon as possible.
