Gloria James was 16-years-old when she gave birth to her son. LeBron’s father was never in his life, and when Gloria’s own mother passed away when was 19, she took on the responsibility of raising him on her own. They moved 12 times within a span of three years as LeBron shuffled from one school to another. His son is appreciative, “I don’t have the words, I can’t sit here and explain I had my mother to blanket me, to give me security. When I was growing up, she was my mother, my father, everything. To grow up in a single-parent household, to see what she could do all by herself, that gave me a lot of strength.” Earlier this year, LeBron penned this heartfelt piece as a tribute to his mom.
