Look, I don’t know where I’m going with this, or if I’ll even do anything with it, but the idea of Bruno doing parkour in front of the Madrigal adults wouldn’t leave me alone. The vague idea here is that they’re trying to catch up to the kids who are off chasing some villain
They skidded to a halt, Felix just managing to grab Agustín before he could go toppling over the edge.
Before them was a chasm and the doors were, of course, on the other side. There was some sort of lever by the doors- maybe it opened the doors or somehow closed the gap?- but there was no way to reach it.
Wonderful, Julieta thought with a sigh. Pepa nudged a pebble off the side and they all watched it drop into the darkness, waiting to hear it hit the bottom.
Nothing. Who knew how long it went on for?
“There has to be another way around,” Julieta fretted. “Maybe if we turn back- BRUNO!?”
Her brother pushed past them, took a running leap and (to Julieta’s terror) easily leaped from wall to wall, even running straight across one before pushing himself off and landing nimbly on the other side of the chasm, arms outstretched for balance.
“Dios mio,” Felix gasped, clutching his chest. Pepa clung to her husband’s arm, mouth hanging open; the cloud above her head thundered and began to drizzle. Agustín turned white as a ghost.
Julieta vaguely wondered if she’d dropped dead from the shock. She couldn’t seem to feel her limbs or form a clear thought.
If Bruno at all noticed how he’d given them all heart attacks he didn’t give an indication. He just gave a pleased hum, smiled at them over his shoulder and pulled on the lever.
The ground rumbled and, for a second, Julieta expected the floor to collapse. But instead there was a grinding noise and a bridge slowly appeared from the other side, covering the gap.
“Oh, good,” Bruno said with a relieved sigh. “It worked.” When no one moved he tilted his head like a curious puppy. “Uh, are you all okay? You’ve gone sort of…pale…”
Pepa exploded, gesturing wildly with her hands. “SINCE WHEN,” she shrieked, “CAN YOU DO THAT!?”
“Oh…” Bruno shrugged. “Well, I had to get around in the walls.”
Silence reigned. Slowly, Julieta made her way across the bridge, keeping a tight grip on Agustín.
“We are never telling Mamá about this,” she said firmly. “Never. Understood?”
Her family winced at the very thought. Bruno nodded, knocking on the wall with his knuckle. “Yeah,” he said. “That’s probably a good idea. Pretty sure she’d kill me.”
Felix scoffed. “She’d kill us for not stopping you!”

Due to an influx of abusive spam comments on April 21, 2024, we temporarily disabled all guest comments across the site. We have now re-enabled the ability to leave guest comments, but if you comment while not logged into an account, you may encounter a verification page that checks that you are not a bot. We are also working on other ways to help reduce spam, including a small change to the default comment settings on the work posting form that will be rolled out soon.

Abuelitas
My newest google doc is called "Abuelitas" and assuming I actually write it it's gonna be about Dolores going to all of her abuelas shortly before her wedding, to learn traditions, receive gifts, and get marriage advice. But playing the odds and assuming I don't write it, here's how it would go in order of solid ideas in my head:
Alma will accompany her to pick up the wedding candle. Lots of talk about the candle, how wax from it was used in Pepa and Julieta's candles, how losing that is another way the family is forging a new way forward. Alma confessing she wasn't married for long, and being unsure if she has any helpful advice for Dolores. They do talk about Pedro, and "to love at all is to love entirely" comes up, it's bittersweet.
Mercedes is gracious enough to invite her to her private room, and has a gold coin for her to put in her shoe, as is traditional. She tells Dolores her wedding day will be the one day of her life she feels the most special and beautiful, and shares a photo from her own wedding because of course she has one. The facade crumbles a bit, and she concludes that Dolores' fiance will be a better husband than her Mariano had been.
Josephine, Felix's mother, unfortunately has dementia. She's preoccupied with tidying her room for when her Albert comes home, and hopes it pleases him. He's been so busy trying to find work, and sometimes it's not good work but he does his best for his family, and she hopes Dolores' husband will do the same. It's hard, finding a good man, and sometimes bad things happen to good men, and one needs to be prepared for that. (Albert has been dead for over forty years.)
Beatriz, Abuela Bea, gifts her Bisabuela Sofia's wedding veil. Unfortunately I don't have much planned on how the conversation would go, something about the joy of knowing you found The One, of persevering, of not letting him get by on charm and good looks, and- oh! They can talk about children, what makes a good father, family, la familia <3

About the AO3 "No Guest Comments for a while" warning
If you're not following any of AO3's social media accounts you might be in the dark as to what kind of "spam comments" have engendered this banner at the top of the site:
Tumblr media
These spam comments have been posted about a great deal on the AO3 subreddit for the past couple of days. Initially they comprised a bunch of guest (logged out users) bot comments that insulted authors by suggesting they were using AI and not writing their own fics. Some examples, from the subreddit:
Tumblr media
But it then escalated to outright graphic porn images and gifs being posted in comments, again by logged out 'Guest' accounts. Obviously, I'm not going to give examples of those, but between these two bot infestations, AO3 has clearly decided to act and has temporarily closed the ability to post comments for users who are not logged in with an AO3 account.
Unfortunately, this means that genuine readers who don't have an AO3 account won't be able to leave comments on fics that they enjoy.
If you are a genuine reader who doesn't yet have an AO3 account, I strongly suggest getting yourself on the waiting list for one. More and more AO3 authors are now locking their fics down to registered users only - either due to these bot comments or concerns about AI scraping their work - which means you're probably missing out on a lot of great stuff.
Hopefully guest commenting will be enabled again at some point soon, but I suggest not waiting until then. Get yourself on that list.
Wait times are going to be longer than usual at the moment, due to the current Wattpad purge [info on Fanlore | Wattpad subreddit thread], but if you're in line, then your invite will come through eventually.
Update: There's now a Megathread about this on the AO3 subreddit.

I regret to inform you that Discord's new Terms of Service includes an arbitration clause. You can find it here https://discord.com/terms/#16. This clause includes an opt-out, which I have transcribed here:
You can decline this agreement to arbitrate by emailing an opt-out notice to [email protected] within 30 days of April 15, 2024 or when you first register your Discord account, whichever is later; otherwise, you shall be bound to arbitrate disputes in accordance with the terms of these paragraphs. If you opt out of these arbitration provisions, Discord also will not be bound by them.
These clauses are underhanded ways that corporations seek to deprive you of your right to participate in class-action lawsuits and your right to a jury trial. (This does only apply to us users ,other people still spread the word though )

Agustín’s family—himself, his parents, and no more—only found refuge in the Encanto once he was already a young adult. Their arrival was a sharp slash of terror to punctuate weeks of fear.
Agustín arrived at the Encanto injured. So, even before meeting Alma Madrigal, his new neighbors led his family to Julieta Madrigal.
She waited in a windowless, candlelit room beside the plaza, furnished with a plush sofa, a small dining set, and a broad table covered in food. There was a rack beside the door with a broad-brimmed blue hat on one hook and an umbrella hanging from another.
The woman inside greeted them with a gentle smile. Fangs, sharp and long as a hunting cat’s, poked over red-painted lips. Her ears had points. The candlelight caught oddly in her pupils.
Agustín did not grow up in the Encanto, with stories of a miracle that needed to be fed. His childhood held different stories. When he first looked upon a vampire, he was afraid.
Then she gave him an empanada.
In exchange, she slid those fangs into his wrist and drank his blood.
---
Agustín, Bruno, and the desire to belong.
Vampire AU Agustín/Bruno/Félix. Rated M.

Before the triplets were born, everyone was probably telling Alma to prepare for heartbreak. Triplet pregnancies are risky. They will be born small, too small. It's unlikely they will all be born alive, and if they are, they will be sickly and may not live long. Having a baby is such a risk anyway. So many things can go wrong.
(It's a small town in 1899. There's no specialist care, no NICU.)
Pedro, taking on all the chores so Alma could rest, told her he would do everything he possibly could to protect their babies and make sure they lived. Everything.
Everything.
