New year update
I would like to give an update on how things have been in the past year, I have a message for you all and it won’t be pretty.
First off, you may have noticed I don’t post as often in the time since I started this blog. The thing is, I’m starting to lose interest in this Max blog in general. I’ve been focusing more and more on other stuff like introducing myself to so many games and movies that I missed out on all my life. I wanna focus more on that this year, but adding a goal of watching a movie I’ve never seen before every day this year means there’s less time to post on here, and honestly it’s for the best.
I’ve been running out of stuff to post related to Max. I wanted to do a bunch of posts showing off Max in Pokémon Journeys if he ever got his episode, and I also wanna show stuff like merchandise with Max in them, but with the former, that didn’t end up happening, and with the latter, there’s barely any Max stuff out there. And besides, even if I do find something else, it’s barely gonna get any attention (outside of my manga posts but that’s beside the point).
So yeah, I’ve been feeling less confident in this blog, and thus, I feel like stopping this blog in general. Losing the momentum of followers and likes my previous blog had kinda had this feeling of wanting to stop doing this within me, and it grew more and more as I focused on other things.
That, and the people I talk to in this fanbase are… out of my ballpark, to be generous.
If anyone wants to continue the legacy of Max in a blog of their own, that’s completely fine, nobody’s stopping you. It’s just that, to me, I barely have any reason to keep posting on here anymore. I hope you all understand.
And with that, I would like to give you all a parting gift. This fanfic about Max and Bonnie travelling together is really good and I wanna give this more attention, and it’s still regularly updating too, so enjoy everyone.

I’m disappointed.
The series finale of Pokémon (or at least Ash’s journey, the series will still go on with new characters) just came out, and after one final season where a ton of companions come back… I’ve been very underwhelmed. Now, I don’t mean to diss any of the other companions here, not at all, but I was kinda hoping everyone would’ve been treated equally.
Misty and Brock reunited with Ash and had a small journey of their own again in the last 11 episodes.
Tracey said hi to Ash in Pallet Town and his Venonat evolved.
Dawn was very prominent with her return, even appearing in a 4 part special, The Arceus Chronicles.
Iris and Cilan also reunited with Ash for a bit and it was nice to see them again, same with Clemont and Bonnie and the Alola gang.
Serena got her own solo episode as a rising star in Hoenn.
And as for May and Max…
This is all we get.
I get it, May’s Japanese VA isn’t here anymore, but as someone who actually likes Max, they shouldn’t have brought him down to silent cameo hell with her. I would’ve been happy with Max getting a prominent episode or two, separate from May, similar to May’s return in Diamond and Pearl, and he could’ve finally had that battle with Ash that he promised him before his departure. Heck, the least they could’ve done is one huge reunion with every single companion and they couldn’t even do that.
I’m kinda mad. Everyone else came back in this final season filled with returning Pokémon, returning travelling companions, and the end of Ash’s journey as a whole. Each companion had a nice little bookend to their stories in just one, two, four, or even upwards of eleven episodes, so why do nothing with May and Max?
I have a feeling that they had a story planned for May and Max, seeing as May is seen in a new outfit (and it would’ve been cool to see her and Serena perform together), but they scrapped it because May’s VA isn’t working with them anymore. Very unfortunate.
All I can say is that, if companions from Ash’s journey are allowed to make an appearance in the sequel series, it would be very nice to have May and Max come back just to make up for their absence in Journeys. They deserve more.

Everyone’s talking about the latest Pokémon episode. Cameos from every single one of Ash’s Pokémon and travelling companions, and without getting into heavy spoilers, it might as well be considered a great finale to the Journeys anime, probably the anime in general.
Now as for the Max fanboy in me… I’m a bit disappointed. He finally returned in Journeys… and it’s a cameo.
Most of the other companions got a spotlight episode, more than one if they’re lucky, and for a season that’s about going back to the other generations and meeting old friends, they really skimped on Max here. May, I can understand, her Japanese VA has been retired for years so bringing her back was mostly impossible over there. It made sense to reduce May to a cameo because of VA problems and I feel for the May fans but happy they finally got what they wanted despite it being limiting. They shouldn’t have brought Max down too is what I’m saying.
I was hoping for a Max-focused episode for a while where he’s separate from May, has grown up to be a trainer, and has the Ralts he promised to catch by his side. Now it has only been reduced to a dream for a possible spinoff that could never happen.
I was also hoping for a full-on companion reunion for the finale. For Journeys especially, it stunk we didn’t get that in the end. The fact of the latest episode being the end of Journeys is up in the air right now but we’ll see what happens.
If Journeys canonically ends and this is all we get from Max, who I still think is underrated and one of my personal favourites of the Pokémon anime, then of course I’m disappointed this is all they did with him. He deserves better, especially for his online reputation. Most fans I see still hate him but while I see the flaws, I’m not bothered by him at all, I’m more entertained in fact. I’m still sad he’s reduced to cameo status every chance they get to include him.
He’s been the companion that’s spent the longest since his last major appearance in an episode, that being the Battle Frontier finale, and I’m sad it’s staying that way after the latest episode.
There’s still some hope. Eventually he’ll make a comeback… someday… and I will forever patiently wait for that day to come until I die.
