Also thank you for highlighting the teary-eyes -Jue. His face is so cute. There absolutely couldn't be better casting. Now I'm conditioned every time I see his face I want to give him a hug.
If you don't mind me asking out of curiousity, what are your favorite tropes/tropes you like?
Hi anon! I'm so sorry it took me this long to reply 😭
Thank you so much for all the kind words! I didn't post it here because of tumblr restrictions when it comes to NSFW works, but I'm very touched that you liked it this much <3 <3
As for the tropes, I really love hurt\comfort, both physical and emotional hurt. I love sick fics and illness recovery fics, any scenario where my favorite characters are cared for.
I love de-aging too, if that's considered a trope, just having that character as the most innocent and vulnerable version of themselves so other characters can protect them or finally empathize with them.
I love "cursed to speak the truth" and "completely oblivious to romance", I really like "monstruous\inhuman character is finally shown love and affection" and unrequited love when i'm feeling angsty.
Oh and soulmates! And when characters are totally chill with weird\spooky things happening to them.
So we all know that Tumblr is US-centric. But to what degree? (and can we skew the results of this poll by posting it at a time where they should be asleep?)
The concept of not using your top sheet is totally foreign to me. I guess it’s because I grew up in a drafty old house sleeping under down comforters, antique quilts, wool blankets and other pieces of bedding that were a sensory nightmare/difficult to clean. I see people in my generation joke about the uselessness of the top sheet and I’m like. Idk, I think it has a pretty important job to do protecting you from touching the creepy haunted quilt your great grandma sewed.
This might be unpopular but I’m not going to use simpler vocabulary in my writing if it’s out of character for the narrator. If my POV character is a botanist, he’s going to call a plant by its name. If you don’t know what it is you can either Google it or move on just knowing it’s a plant of some sort.
I don’t like this trend of readers being angry that not everything is 100% understandable for them. I want my characters to be believable as people and sometimes people use words people outside of their field will not understand. That’s not a bad thing.
You don’t have to understand every word to get the gist of what’s happening. I’m not going to slow down an action scene to describe every weapon because someone might not know them by name. They can just assume it’s a weapon because that makes sense in the context of the scene.
Most annoying NMJ or JC take is when someone that dislikes them is like "oh you're a fan of him? *scoff* Well obviously you've only seen cql, where he was super watered down. In the novel he's a dislikable asshole and that's the objectively superior canon I'm working from instead of your woobified fanfic." Meanwhile your main canon is novel canon and you genuinely find novel Jiang Cheng and Nie Mingjue complex sympathetic characters.
