Cars from my life, with Boyricer. #3
After my Peugeot 206, I was looking for more power. I found a Peugeot 307 s 1.6 16V, at the time, I didn't really want to go for another Peugeot, however, the car seemed right, after having such good reliability with the Pug 206, and so I bought it for £1800, a black 5 door 2007 Peugeot 307 S hadn't.
Tumblr media
The last day I had her.
Petrol heads have a term for a car being a "money pit", this car was no exception, when you work out how many faults I had per month of owning this shed, it ends up being 1.2 faults a month! Being a modern car, it wasn't cheap to fix. Upon buying the car, I knew the paint work had seen better days, and I could see it had been crashed, as some panels weren't correctly aligned, but the luxury's of the car, and the speed and practicality drew me to buying the car.
Tumblr media
Taking up the work car park!
Housing a TU5J4S, the same engine as a Citreon Saxo VTS, and a Peugeot 106 GTi, meant this car had plenty of power, and a fantastic rev range. With me being 18 (at the time), and able to get a DOHC 1.6 for cheaper insurance than my 1.1 206, I was happy as could be at 1st! Then, I changed the radio in the car, and this is where the original problem began, the car immobilised itself!
Tumblr media
Before someone says it, no the filter isn't on in this picture!
The 1.6 S model, came with the a lot of extras, to keep a young boy racer happy. From coming from a 1.1 206, which only came with electrics windows, and no ABS, this meant the 307 had a lot of toys to play with! (and a lot of toys to go wrong.) My model came equipped with front fog lights, electric windows, trip computer, white dials, digital oil temp, 6 way speakers, cruise control, A/C, bucket seats, ABS, ESP, heated wing mirrors, outside temp and airbags everywhere!
Tumblr media
This 307 was surprisingly fun on B roads!
If the car didn't encounter all the problems which I did have, I'd still have it and be enjoying it! 1.6 16v models have 120HP & 150NM's of torque to unleash at the front wheels, which often span due to the lack of a LSD, which meant the car would do 0-60 in just over 10 seconds! With a 5 speed box, equipped with a hydraulic clutch, quad vented disc brakes with twin pot callipers, and good firm, road holding suspension. All this seems to be a perfect formula for an ideal commuting vehicle as you can have great fun, enough to get you into trouble, and ever forgiving suspensions and brakes which can get you out of trouble again.
Tumblr media
My 306 GTi6 & 307 s.
Doing all this and retaining over 42MPG, which is a nice figure to see on your trip computer! However, I can't help but feel my car was just mistreated by previous owners, hence the problems. I had problems with my exhaust, rear suspension, "anti pollution" misfires, clutch, engine mounts, airbags going faulty, whinning diff, drinking oil, electric boot failing to open, and the killer which forced me to give the car away for repairs for £700, the gearbox broke.
Tumblr media
White dials added to the 'sporty' feel.
I'd recommend this car, however, I'd strongly suggest going for a 308, both cars haven't got bad reliability reviews, mine just must of been a bad egg. I'd like to add, it's been months, and the car still isn't on the road, I don't think the guy knew quite how much was wrong with her.
Tumblr media
The twin headlights and front fog lights lit the road up!
LOOKS 7/10
This only applies for the facelift model, like mine. The car looks modern and fairly posh for a family hatch! 3 Door models obviously, looking better than 5 door. But it's amazing how practical it is, often we carried 5 adults, and 4 dogs in the boot, no strain on the engine either.
HANDLING 4/10
The car has all you need to make you feel sure you'll be stuck to the road well, however the suspension is set for comfort, and the car often cocks a rear wheel around corners due to this! With big 205 tyres wrapped around 16" alloys, it certainly helps with every effort.
SPEED/ACCELERATION 6/10
The 1.6 variant is very quick for the engine size (1587cc), The car will give most 1.8 and 2.0 litres a run for their money. If you opt to buy a new 307 or 308, go for a diesel model, simply because the diesel retain the same horsepower as the petrol, but allows for far more torque! I'd only ever achieved a top speed of 105MPH in the car, simply as the car isn't built for speed 90+. I can't help but feel, the car need a 6 speed gearbox.
BRAKES 8/10
Defiantly some of the best brakes I've ever used! The quad vented discs stop the car from any speed almost instantly! The handbrake is perfect, I found 1 click would hold the handbrake on any hill. I'd never experienced any locking of the wheels, in fact, the braking is so harsh that the "oil pressure low" warning came up on the screen!
MODDING 3/10
While the pre face lift model has loads of rice-tastic body kits, the face lift model doesn't have much going for it in the favour of mods. In the time of owning the car I only put a K&N filter on it, as that's the only mod I could find that was worth the time, that didn't break the bank.
BHP - 120
Torque - 147 NM's
0-60 - 10.4 Seconds
Top Speed - 118MPH
OVERALL SCORE       28/50 (56%)
The car is a brilliant mix of practicality, economy and speed, however I'd strongly recommend going for a 308 instead. If it's a bigger car you need, don't let the outside trick you into thinking it's a small car, it's not!

Cars from my life, with Boyricer. #2
Most people have such a strong attachment, when they get on the road with their 1st car. You can't compare the feeling of your first true love with a car, it's a completely different feeling rather than the usual feeling of love. For me my 1st car (in my name) was a Peugeot 206 Lx. The car boasted a TU block, in my case a TU1JP which was a 1124cc inline 4, with 8 valves, and a SOHC. Yes, not a lot in this car screamed SPEED and POWEEER!
Tumblr media
When she was stock!
My love for 206's started with the classic game, Need for Speed : Underground. It was the 1st car I choose on that game, and I loved it's unique styling, it really stood out to me, and it was one of the first cars, that made me want to learn more about cars, and engage more with cars. When I first got my hands on this game, I was only 8!
Tumblr media
I'd like to note, I didn't like white cars, now I can't get enough of them!
Needless to say, when a colleague at my work offered me the white pug, I said yes, and with £350 out of my pocket and a white Peugeot from the year 2000 into my life. As a 16 year old driver, I could not WAIT to get on the road, so when I passed my test at 16, I soon learnt was this car had to offer, I also learnt about the infamous suspension and durability of Peugeot cars (apart from the electrics).
Tumblr media
My interior, again stock!
With 60BHP at the wheels, and a shed load of torque, I was one of the fastest in my friends group, and straight away the mods started to happen! I began with the good old, boy racer special, an "uprated" air filter... I didn't know anything about cars, and I put it next to my radiator and exhaust manifold. I got an aftermarket radio, and speakers, again, the boy racer in me wanted more!
Tumblr media
"She has to have those sort of eyes". She loved her garage!
I could go on about my history with this car for days. But you won't bother reading this (if you already have been bothered to read this far). My mods consisted of; Cold air induction kit, 1.4i radiator, 11 spoke mazda MX5 MK1 cooling fan, Catcams camshafts, stage 1 black diamond clutch, decat, 2.5" lightweight straight through stainless steel exhaust, with 3" tail. This gave the car, a much more noticeable power increase. I also had red sparco mudflaps, GTi spoiler, 16" nimrod alloys (wrapped in continental tyres), Black angel eyes, and just to top it off with the wider wheels, I also had F&K coilover suspension, and uprated anti roll bar at the rear! The car was a boy racers dream!
Tumblr media
BWAAAARRRPP!
The 206 was (and still is) Peugeot's most successful selling car, production went on from 98-07, and then it had it's successor made, the 207. The 206 only weighed under a ton (900KG's) meaning for the torque educed TU series engines, they went like no one expected them to. However, the 207 weighs a lot more due to safety, and general bulking up, however keeping the TU blocks, meant the 207's were slower, uglier, and less agile.
Tumblr media
Not my best picture, but that's a TU1 Block.
I'm sure you've heard that the "French can make an amazing, reliable, fast, economical, and soulful motor, but they can't do electrics". There was no exception with the 206 (or any other French car I've owned). When I'd got the car, it had central locking issues, it'd unlock itself when it wanted to, the tachometer stopped working (after 6 months), starter motor failed, ECU failed and some dash lights stopped working, however, this didn't stop me enjoying the car any less.
Tumblr media
3"Sportex back box
LOOKS 7/10
Now this is quite hard, because I'm basing it on a standard 206 on the street, not my modded version, and not the GTi180 version either, both of those are a solid 10! But the styling on this pug is still looking great today!
HANDLING 5/10
Again, not for my particular 206, as that car would corner better than any other car around. I'm grading this for before the mods, when the car would understeer with it's skinny 14" steel wheels.
SPEED/ACCELERATION 4/10
The 1.1i variant is no rocket, however while still achieving 50+ MPG's, it sure is a fun and lively car to drive, with power across the rev range... just not enough power at times! Although the Peugeot has a quoted top speed of 98, I'd made it to 113MPH once I'd modded mine.
BRAKES 2/10
Typical cheap car set up, solid discs up front, drums on back. My brakes often over heated, and felt spongy. With my model not coming with ABS etc, it meant my wheels would often lock up, however it has taught me how to brake properly.
MODDING 8/10
I thought that this is one of the easiest, and defiantly the most spoilt for choice, when comparing to similar cars, with small displacement engines, it has too much to choose from!
BHP - 60
TORQUE - 92NM's
0-60 - 14.4 seconds
Top speed - 98 MPH
OVERALL SCORE     26/50 (52%) I'd highly recommend this car. However if you do a lot of motorway driving, I'd got for the 1.6 16v XSi model, but if you want/need something cheap, cheerful, economical, but quick enough to put a smile on your face, this is it!
