Just wanted to share an update on our dog we adopted from the Coon Rapids Animal Humane Society a month ago. He was a stray named Bagel by AHS, but we have named him Chester. He was 18 pounds and very underweight when we adopted him. Since then he has gained two pounds and become an irreplaceable, snuggly member of our family.
He’s learned basic commands, how to use our doggie door and has become fully house trained. His “big brother” Coco came to us from the Golden Valley Animal Humane Society six-years ago and the two of them bonded instantly and are almost inseparable.
We can’t thank AHS enough for all their work helping animals find forever homes. We will forever be a supporter of their work and will definitely adopt again from AHS when the time is right. Thank you!

My boyfriend and I were looking for a dog to add to our family and the first time we saw Cooper (formally Gavin) we fell in love!
Originally we were told he would destroy the house being he was already returned once but he is the best boy! He cracks us up with his high energy but he is also our snuggle puppy and couch potato. He fits right in with our family!

We adopted Tango (the stray named Happy by AHS) in December and did not expect that adding a third cat to our household would actually make things more peaceful! She recovered fast from her surgery and has been having a lot of fun playing with our other cat, Fluffy. Now that Fluffy has a new friend to play with, he has had less time to bother our elderly kitty, Violet, who is not amused. Tango enjoys climbing and birdwatching and has claimed a napping spot on the kitchen radiator by a nice sunny window. Thank you to Animal Humane Society's Coon Rapids adoption center for bringing this perfect baby into our lives and for taking such good care of her before we could bring her home.

Did you know that when it opened in 1973 at just over 775 ft the IDS Center in downtown Minneapolis was the 16th tallest building IN THE WORLD? By comparison the 16th tallest building today is the Lakhta Center in Saint Petersburg, Russia which is nearly double the height at 1,516 ft!

We adopted our kitty Polly from Animal Humane Society's Coon Rapids location back in July. AHS did a great job fixing her all up, and even though she was recovering from a kitty cold, mites, and a spay but when we spent time with her she immediately plopped down in our laps and started purring and we knew we had a winner!
She is now living her very best life and enjoys, among other things, balls of yarn and chewing on pens. Also we love her extra toes!

We just love having Dietrich as an addition to our family. He definitely came in and stole all of our hearts. He’s so playful, attentive, & he loves to cuddles and get lots of love.
He loves to be outside free and running in the back yard. He looks forward to morning and evening walks. We get a lot of compliments on him. Thanks for allowing us to adopt him & make him our family the best choice for us by far.

Mugshot Monday - Maggie's "Cat & Mouse" coffee mug by Crate & Barrel with Morning Glory Signature Blend by Peace Coffee
We bought this Cat & Mouse coffee mug for our dear neighbor Maggie. She had a cat named Rory who looked pretty much exactly like the cat on this mug.
It seemed like Rory was an old cat when we met her in 2002. She seemed to live forever.
I can remember going over to take care of her when Maggie would go away on trips. Every day, she'd come marching down the stairs loudly scolding me with ever footstep for not coming over sooner to feed her.
I'd apologize and she'd lean into my leg, purring. I'd be forgiven and we were all good again.

Rory passed a couple of years before Maggie died and we miss them both so very much. I'm grateful to have Maggie's cat mug--it makes me smile remembering them.
Cheers to Maggie and Rory. RIP. ☕️ 🐈‍⬛

Early morning fire guts Elliot Park neighborhood bar
If you lived in the area of 15th Street and Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis back in the day, the morning of February 28th 1996, brought you either joy or despair depending on your view of the demise of this local neighborhood watering hole. The Star Tribune gave this account of the fire..
The huge plume of smoke rising from the remains of a bar in Minneapolis’ Elliot Park neighborhood early Tuesday signaled the end of an era for some residents. The demise of Danny’s - a fixture at 15th St. and Chicago Av. S. meant for some residents a lessening of the heavy partying and loitering that has marked the corner in recent years. But for Clem Vandermoon, like many other longtime residents, the loss of the bar was much more personal. “This is my home away from home,” Vandermoon said as he watched the building burn to the ground. “It was just a nice place.”
Someone tell Mr. Vandermoon I’d like to buy him a beer.
