UPDATE: I'm leaving, I removed every reblog, like or post I made on this or my second, now deleted profile, but I'll still have this profile open jut in case some of my mutuals don't see this right away.

Everything I said in this previous post still stands. I recommend any type of artist to switch to sites like Inkblot or Artfol.

If anyone wants to stay on Tumblr, please go to your profile visibility settings and prevent third party sharing, but bear in mind that it will only send a request to not use your data, which can be ignored by scrapers.

I know I am more paranoid than regular individuals, but if Tumblr truly makes a deal with Midjourney, I will private/ delete all my posts except this one.

To any of my followers/ mutuals who still want to see my art or chat, I'll (most likely) still be on Instagram and YouTube, but also on Inkblot and Artfol. The last two are sites specifically for artists that prohibit the posting of AI images in their TOU. I'm Blue_Sun on everything, but here's an official list. They are very small communities (especially Inkblot which is still in beta), but the users are welcoming and I'd say that these sites have a lot of potential.

I hope I'm wrong and that I won't have to delete my account here since it's pretty weird yet kinda fun, everyone here seems passionate about their art and fandoms, but I won't hold my breath.

If the worst comes soon, I'd like to see you on some other, hopefully better, site.

What is this about the tumblr staff wanting to sell art data to midjourney?

An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don't have any more info. They probably won't have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:

I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.

Tumblr's CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and 'AI' companies.

A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data... tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)

So I don't have any extra info yet, but I'm keeping my ears open.
