His voice always takes people by surprise because heās so painfully quiet. The reason why he barely speaks is a tightly held secret between the Black brothers until James earns his trust & he tells him how (even now) Walburga would try to punish his āboyish voice out of him.ā
A few days later Regulus receives a frantic owl about his motherās mysterious āsudden illnessā that has taken her voice entirely; leaving her irreversibly mute.
His eyes snap to the Gryffindor table to find James Potter, looking down at his breakfast with an impossibly smug smile.

Idk why but I find it extremely entertaining the idea that Regulus, even though incredibly intelligent, cannot for the life of him figure out muggle āmagicā tricks. How muggles achieve such things without any real magic is his lifeās biggest mystery. What makes it even worse for Reg is that James is surprisingly talented at doing them and refuse to tell him how itās done.
