THAT WOULD BE SUCH A FUN MOVE THO, like in the beginning when you're choosing what your LI looks like PB tells you it's a single-LI book but then at the end you can choose the side character (tbh I rly enjoyed dumping my LI at the end of America's Most Eligible)

or at least next time (I RLY FEEL LIKE THERE WILL BE A NEXT TIME) go full-tilt unhinged like Queen B so it's at least a different story that doesn't rehash the same themes, like not engaging in an affair even though it's wrong cuz you're in love, engaging in an affair CUZ IT'S WRONG AND U LIKE IT (cheating IRL is wrong I'm not condoning it, I just want to imbibe my fictional stories and be entertained and not just reread the same story over and over again but with different hats)

I've only played the first chapter so far, I haven't played regularly for a while so I've got some catching up to do, I also only just started Crimes of Passion 2

don't mind me just coming back from inactivity to say that while the pacing in Kindred was crunchy and I thought the plot was a lil basic I RLY enjoyed the characters and felt they each had their own unique voice and found their interactions with each other well-written and engaging (loved being roasted by my sisters every time I mentioned I had the hots for Kaine LMAO) and tbh I had a great time cuz I feel like great characters can carry a plot but a great plot can't carry sub-par characters

also I named my MC Amaranth and got startled when it was the name of the magic shop lmao

Choices has books that range from all different types of tones and how rooted in reality they are and things that ‘work’ in some books don’t work in others

MAH is a lot more serious and grounded than QB, it’s a murder mystery with a generally heavy feel to it.  I’d describe QB as maybe pulp (I dunno if that’s the term)?  The characters and situations are highly unrealistic and it rly indulges in guilty pleasures that would be unacceptable irl (or even in other stories), like verbally and physically attacking your school rival or having a forbidden romance (tho I agree it was rly forced and Zoey got the short end of the stick).  If I remember correctly when u start QB they have a disclaimer saying only mature audiences should read it, which I agree with, it’s definitely not for a younger crowd!  It’s for adults who want to indulge in a little depravity, it’s not a serious story trying to portray a genuine message

If they had tried to portray a student-teacher relationship in a positive light in The Freshman series that would have been hella gross since The Freshman is a generally wholesome story more rooted in reality that takes unacceptable behaviors seriously (ex: the storyline with Manny)

Also while catfighting is generally the basis of the whole QB storyline, it really didn’t work in Red Carpet Diaries, where PB originally published a scene in the first book where Victoria grabs MC by her hair.  RCD had been a light-hearted book so far about a nice gal who wanted to be an actress, so instead of having the tone of ‘lowbrow fun’ like the fighting is in QB, the tone in RCD made it read like a serious assault.  PB listened to ppl’s reactions to the scene and they changed it so that it’s less violent (I think now she just pokes MC and that causes her to lose balance and fall through the painting instead of being basically thrown through it)

I find it wildly interesting how PB has 2 books circulating that deal with teacher-student relationships and yet the way they’ve written it and had the characters respond to it is VASTLY different.

In Murder at Homecoming, the characters were repulsed by idea of their teacher sleeping with a student, even though in the end, he was found to be innocent of it.

Meanwhile in Queen B, not only did the writers force the MC and the professor to interact every single damn chapter and gave the professor way more diamond scenes than Zoey to encourage the relationship, the relationship was encouraged by the MC’s best friend, who happened to be the other love interest getting the incredibly short end of the stick. 

Why did the writers see it as rightfully wrong and discouraged it in one case and did a complete 180 in another case? Why was it seen as repugnant and gross in Murder at Homecoming and seen as “true love” in Queen B?

 And because I know someone will, the setting being high school vs college shouldn’t be used to justify it. Any teacher sleeping with their student, regardless of if they are in high school or in college, is wrong. Period.

LMAO like if it was any other book besides Endless Summer HELL NO but I'm a huuuuuuuuuge slut for time travel and friendship!! (I've honestly considered getting more time travel theme tattoos like from Back to the Future, Bill & Ted, Best Friends Whenever, etc.) I've also been playing Choices since the beginning so I read ES as it came out over 2 years, so I got a lot more attached to the story and characters than I would if I had binged it.

Aaaand in case my love for the story waned in the future I did decide to choose a design that was more on the generic side! Whenever a rando asks me about it I just say "it's a spaceman" "why?" "cuz I like spacemen" instead of having to be like "hey who's that random cartoon white guy u have a portrait of?" "MY HUSBANDO THAT I'VE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH OVER AND OVER AGAIN IN A TIME LOOP"

Companies admitting online, in public that they’re having ‘staffing issues’ multiple times is not a sign of a healthy company.

And this isn’t the first time Choices has used staffing issues for excusing a book delay or cancellation and that’s a really bad look.

Is management that bad? 

Is the work environment so bad they’re bleeding staff? 

Is PB bleeding money so much they can’t afford to keep staff on what looks like a successful book and can only afford to fund the really cheap formulaic books?

From a business perspective, this is an unfortunate thing to admit. It raises serious questions about PB’s future.
