Eve has chosen Villanelle before
I can’t get over the fact that Eve was chasing Villanelle while she was sitting on the train. To that moment she has already chosen Villanelle’s existence in her life and what really surprises me is that she did that without knowing how much Villanelle has changed.
Before the train there was meeting on the bus where they fought and kissed. Villanelle tried her best to look confident, smug, inaccessible and all powerful in front of Eve to hide her hurt, pain and despair.
I think, Eve attacked her for showing up like that. Now it seems like Eve went through a whole heartbreak and she was upset and angry at Villanelle because she left her there (while Eve was trying to help Villanelle after stabbing her), that after all those words of love she shot her. It’s not anger like “You wanted to kill me!” but “You left me there, I trusted you, aren’t you hurt as well as I am? Why are you so cocky and smug like never happened between us?”
Only Villanelle’s words “Smell me, Eve. What do I smell off to you?” finally showed how despair and hurt she was inside and how much she wanted to get her actual confidence and power back, which she lost back in Rome.
That’s when Eve clearly sees Villanelle. She sees her eyes which looking for something, she hears how briefly breaks her voice. She kisses her as a confession, as an answer “I see you, I see real you and I love you”.
After that event they both went through a lot. What wakes Eve up is Niko’s being pitchforked, her thoughts about Villanelle’s part in it and passionate desire to prove that Villanelle could never do that. That’s when she decides to find her whatever it takes, makes a choice to kill Dasha and leave Konstantin dying. She does it again after her conversation with Jamie, she does it and realize this time that it’s her choice.
So, she was ready to connect her life with Villanelle again after memories of her shooting her and leaving, after that smirk which she gave her and their fight. She chose her after noticing despair in her actions and wish of being powerful over Eve again. Eve doesn’t know how many things changed, she doesn’t know that Villanelle’s definition of love changed as well, that she has matured, became softer and now understands and feels the weight of her actions on her chest.
It’s beautiful that Eve still wanted her without knowing all of it. Back then she chose all Villanelle, with her flaws and sins and everything she did to Eve.
What is more beautiful is that she easily noticed how Villanelle changed after seconds of being around her. She notices her hair down, her vulnerability, her sadness and she sees hurt and pain in her eyes. And then everything fades away. All her plans for the Twelve, all thoughts of how they both hurt each other, the kiss and fight just disappear.
Eve made her choice long ago. This time she shared it with Villanelle. And at the end of the episode she decided for sure - their lives are connected, they want each other in their lives, they choose each other over everything and they are together.

True Love
When I’m watching episodes from previous seasons or see some moments from them, I can’t help but see and acknowledge the characters’ development. And I’m talking about both Eve and Villanelle.
Villanelle has got a great journey this season. It was a genuine roller coaster, she really was pushed to her limits, she was broken and shattered. Of course, her development started from the moment she saw Eve. Remember 1x01? Her glance at Eve? Yes, she had a type of women, but exactly in that moment she showed a glimpse of emotions. Now I’m thinking: should Villanelle have killed Eve then? Minutes after their meeting the bunch of people were murdered by her (because they were on her way, they were witnesses). Was Eve the one too? Probably. But she wasn’t killed.
You can see a glimpse of emotions on Villanelle’s face while she was aiming Eve in 1x05. She could have killed her, maybe she even should have. Eve was the one who was investigating her kills, who took Frank from Villanelle. And yet Villanelle decided to let Eve live. She has already liked her, Eve has shown a normal behavior towards Villanelle (back in 1x01 “Are you alright?”, now she lifted her hand up and the other hand put on her chest like heart), she was really interested in Villanelle.
In season 1 it seemed like there was obsession between them more than anything else. Interest, curiosity. They both saw something in each other that mesmerized them, they both had something to respect in one another and even admire. There was strange magnetism, wish to know more and wish to catch each other. Did they like each other? Deep inside, I think so. Was there sexual tension? Definitely.
After turning point (Eve stabbing Villanelle as an act of killing old Villanelle, trying to stop her being who she wasn’t) we see how Villanelle changed. After Eve stabbed her she realized something very important, she found the proof of her theory - Eve is much more like Villanelle than she thought. She saw darkness in her and wanted to get it out of her. With stabbing the feelings came to her life (calling Eve her girlfriend, worrying about he fact that Eve forgot her, crying because of it in the bathroom). It became something more than an obsession.
Speaking of Eve, season 1 and 2 she spent in thoughts of Villanelle. Thoughts of “What makes women to kill?” I’m sure that she saw something very interesting in Villanelle, she never saw her like an assassin and nothing more (their conversation in 1x05). There was curiosity first, even admiring (Eve’s reaction to Villanelle’s kill in 1x01 “Cool!”). Even not knowing Villanelle at all she wanted to get into her mind (stabbing herself to understand how the assassin could do that to victim).
Interesting moment in 1x05. She does talk to Villanelle as a person, she confessed that she acknowledges her skills and how smart she is. But there is also one thing - Eve calling Villanelle a psychopath.
“You should never tell a psychopath they are psychopath”
“Bullshit”
A normal person wouldn’t have said this to psychopath and dangerous killer. He would have been scared. But Eve was never a normal person. And Villanelle knew this. She saw it. And that was one of the first proves of that.
Eve wanted to know Villanelle’s past. She was ready to listen to her, she really cared. She knew that something happened in Villanelle’s past. She was interested in Villanelle as a person.
Was Villanelle ready for this conversation? No. Not even now. But back then she turned everything into the joke, hid again, put on her mask and didn’t show her true self.
That’s what pissed Eve. Villanelle is hiding, covering. Being an extraordinary person and killing people for living... She thinks that Villanelle is much more than that but still refuses to acknowledge it (she doesn’t know it herself).
It was an obsession. A game where each of them tried to get a real person out of each other. Villanelle wanted to get dark Eve, Eve was ready to see and talk to real Oksana. Neither of them showed up, but the process was going on.
So, season 1 - chasing, wish to catch each other, to prove other person wrong. Eve wish to help Villanelle, to understand her nature and turn her into normal person. Villanelle’s desire to have Eve, own her, to make her face with her inner monster.
They both bring it in season 2. It wasn’t just an obsession anymore, but true feelings.
“Do you think about it?”
“All of the time”
Brilliant scene. Tears in their eyes, Villanelle being hurt by Eve stabbing her but yet satisfied that she succeed to see dark Eve. Eve touching Villanelle as an apology and this brief moment of vulnerability, honesty, pure feelings as they are staring at each other. You can see how Villanelle was melting at that short moment. But she was still an assassin and she couldn’t let herself do that.
It’s their first acknowledging that they care. Eve could have killed her (she knows and thinks about it all the time), Villanelle is hurt not only physically but emotionally too. It’s the confession that they feel, that Eve is sorry and Villanelle is truly upset. I could write a lot about this scene, but then it would have bee another post.
Season 2 is diving in their wishes. So, there is definitely not just an obsession between them. There are fellings (they always were, but now they are starting showing up), thoughts about each other. Villanelle is being soft towards Eve (I love that). Eve believes in Villanelle working with them, suggesting it everyone. She openly says that Villanelle is able to help, she can do that, Eve will help her.
Eve’s jealously? I LOVE this scene. Villanelle asking “You ok?”? One of my favorite scenes in the show. Villanelle now sees Eve, notices her feelings. It’s not just her world anymore, there are also other people, but most of it - there is Eve.
*That* night in Rome? Villanelle sending Eve flowers? Watching her and Niko? It proved that Eve can be turned on only if Villanelle caused it. Sexual tension is getting stronger, so do feelings.
But it wasn’t enough back then. Eve was right, Villanelle didn’t know what love was. She thought of it as a possessing, owning, having something. Like thing.
Eve knew that Villanelle didn’t understand. She saw her desire to posses. She rejected that attitude, because it was wrong, because they still didn’t understand each other despite the fact that they both felt something.
Season 3? God. What Eve went through was definitely a heartbreak. She even says in 3x03 (If you did I would get rid of much heartache) or something like that. She was hurt because Villanelle left her, because she shot her and wasn’t with her as when Eve was with Villanelle when she stabbed her. After such a confession she just left Eve lying there. It was the most painful- they both lived in an illusion of each other still trying to make the other like themselves.
This seasons shows how Villanelle changed her mind.
“It’s not good for both of us”
She realized that chasing and torturing is bad for them. Now Eve is equal to her. They are equal. Not “you’re mine” anymore. It’s “us”.
She matured. Accepted her inner monster, accepted the fact that meeting with her family fundamentally changed her. She calmed down.
Eve this whole season was slowly accepting Villanelle being in her life. She stopped blaming her for ruining her life, she realized that it was her choice.
“I think I wanted it to”
I think Villanelle was happy to hear it. Finally she wasn’t blamed, finally Eve acknowledged and accepted her darkness. Villanelle always wanted for Eve to accept herself.
Eve finally reached for Oksana she always wanted to see. This fragile, complicated and unusual girl.
And there they are. On the bridge. Alike. Equal.
They were always the same. But it didn’t mean that Eve in season 2 was like Villanelle back then. It meant that deep down inside their souls are similar. They met in between.
No more games, no more anger, no more hurt. Acceptance. Understanding. Villanelle was ready to let Eve go. She gave her a choice.
Eve confessed about her feelings for Villanelle. She wanted to stop becoming darker person, she was afraid of it - or she thought so. She knew that she loved Villanelle, she desired for her, she wanted her in her life. Eve realized that it would “consume them both”, that this relationship would be so difficult and destructive for both of them, that she decided to set them free. And she knew that only Villanelle could give her that - freedom.
But. Being apart - is that freedom? Is that her real wish? Opposite. It’s being trapped, because only together they let themselves being who they truly are. They want each other. Despite everything. The danger, risk, hurt, pain. Because they not only cause each other suffering of being together, but also suffering of being apart. They brought interest, light, new experience into their lives also. And there was a choice.
Whether be together and go through it shoulder to shoulder, back to back while holding each other or continue to pretend who they are not.
And they chose each other. They chose love.
And this time it’s real love.

Eve and Villanelle: The Dance of Two Hearts, One Beat
Tumblr media
I can’t believe we predicted a dance between them and it ended up coming true. I’ve always been a sucker for my ships to have a slow dance together so this scene satisfied me a lot.
I love that it starts off with Eve and Villanelle just talking to each other. After everything that these two have been through together it was nice to take a moment and allow them to just have a casual conversation—albeit, it included the discussion of murders, but what else can we expect from these two?
I liked the part when Eve is informing Villanelle about what Dasha had done, only for Villanelle to be off in her own world and then later changes the subject. The reason why I love that moment is because—for those who have read the books—that felt very similar to how Villanelle acts in them. Eve describes how Villanelle sometimes goes off in her own world and she can’t reach her, so she just waits for her to come back, and I feel like that’s what happened here. Where Eve was trying to talk with her but she was off somewhere else, but then when Villanelle engages with her on a different topic Eve just goes along with it.
There’s something sweet about how Eve seems to recognize when Villanelle has these moments of not really being present—more so just talking at her—but she doesn’t snap her out of it. Instead, she continues to speak to her and keep her company while it’s happening, even if her words aren’t being entirely taken in by Villanelle.
I also love that Eve could tell that something was wrong with Villanelle. She could see that something was bothering her and causing her to be distant, which is when she then decides to ask Villanelle to join her in a dance. I feel like that was her way of trying to get her mind off of whatever was occupying her thoughts and to bring her back into the present with her.
Tumblr media
The playful little shoulder shake and smile that she gives to Villanelle to get her to follow her was so cute and really should be appreciated more. It’s the first time where we’ve seen Eve being so playful with Villanelle, and even a bit flirtatious. Then, for Villanelle to look so unsure of herself and nervous about dancing was quite endearing. It’s such a great shift in the dynamic of these two, where we see Villanelle pushed completely out of her comfort zone and Eve being the one who looks in control and is helping to navigate her in this new environment.
The little bickering moment that they had about who was leading who was also really adorable. I just love how unfiltered and honest they are with each other. How Eve snaps at Villanelle as if they’ve been married for forty years and for Villanelle to openly confess she has no idea what she’s suppose to be doing. Something that probably doesn’t come easy to admit for someone who is deeply narcissistic. It was sweet to see how Villanelle felt comfortable enough with Eve to let her know that she was way out of her comfort zone, and for Eve to take notice of how she was feeling (yet again) and helping her through it.
Tumblr media
Then it goes into—probably my favorite part of the dance—which was when they both closed their eyes and got transferred back into their own world together. Everything about this moment I’m in love with.
I loved the detail of how when they do close their eyes the music then fades away and becomes distant. Such a great symbolic choice to make. Eve and Villanelle have such a deep connection with each other that in that moment they don’t even exist on the same plane as those around them. That’s why I love the pull out shot where it shows them both dancing together in the middle of the dance floor. Although, they’re dancing with others next to them they couldn’t be further from everyone else. As soon as they allow their souls to re-connect they’re once again swept away and exist only with each other for the rest of the scene.
They finally find the beat to their own rhythm and after a short pause Villanelle spots an older couple dancing together, and asks Eve if she wants to be like that. What’s great about this shot is that it continues to show how they’re far off together because when they both notice the couple, it felt almost like they were observing them from afar.
Eve then makes the response that she no longer desires that, which Villanelle does seem a bit upset by because—as we know—deep down she does crave some form of normalcy with someone, and she wants to share that with Eve.
Tumblr media
One of the best moments though is how Eve responds to Villanelle next. After, asking Eve why she doesn’t want that anymore, Eve makes the comment: “We’d never make it that long. We’d consume each other before we got old.”
“We”…that’s the part that got me. When I first watched this moment I actually wasn’t thinking about how Eve and Villanelle were referencing their relationship when looking at the older couple. I had initially assumed Villanelle was asking Eve about being happy with someone and growing old together with them, not necessarily with her.
So, when Eve then used the word “we” and referenced them getting old together, I was freaking out. We’ve never had them discuss a future together this openly before. Sure, there was the season two finale where Villanelle told Eve about her plans to take them to Alaska. But for that particular incident she was just making it up on the fly and was more in the head space of having “won” Eve. It wasn’t so much a discussion and more of an ownership of taking Eve with her. But, here, we actually get a moment where they try to imagine a possible future together, how it may look, and I love Eve’s response in regards to them consuming each other.
I think she’s correct in her assessment that if they were to have a future as a couple it would be all consuming for both of them. It wouldn’t be a normal relationship like others have. It would be intense, chaotic, destructive, peaceful, passionate, calming, insatiable, satisfactory…
Their connection is so deep and they’re both beautiful whirlwinds of chaos that being together would entirely consume them. By being together it would cause their “monsters” to find ultimate peace in each other, but it also can (as Villanelle said in the finale) encourage the other, which would result in insurmountable destruction. But, what makes me swoon for these two is how Villanelle responds with: “That sounds kind of nice.”—and the way that Eve’s face softens when she says that shows that she thinks so too!!
That’s what is so beautiful about their relationship. Whether it’s “good or bad” to be together in terms of how society may view it, for them it doesn’t matter. Their relationship transcends norms and is something completely above any regular connection that people have with each other that it can’t be viewed with such simplicity or morality. I can understand why Sandra keeps reiterating how their relationship is undefinable, because it’s true. What they have together is a connection at its most purest and intense form. These two understand each other like no one else can and connect with such intimacy that it is beyond beautiful to watch.
Tumblr media
One of the sweetest moments is when Villanelle tells Eve that she’s killed many people and how Eve simply responds with: “I know.” Then to see how Villanelle becomes genuinely touched by her words. There was no judgement in Eve’s voice, nor did she shy away from her. Instead, Eve acknowledged what Villanelle has done and accepted that part of her. That’s exactly what Villanelle has been searching for throughout this entire season, to find someone who would accept the totality of who she was. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Villanelle saying that line was almost exactly what she said to her mother.
Both times Villanelle was trying to find someone to understand and accept her, but with her mom she rejected her darkness and thought her to be a monster. But, with Eve, she understood her darkness and embraced her monstrosity because she too had that within her.
This dance was such a great way to reunite these two again. Not only was it heartwarming to watch them fumble and then find peace in each other’s arms. But it was also so symbolic of their relationship. Their dynamic does feel like a dance between two partners, which is why I love the line when Eve asks Villanelle whose leading and she responds that she has no idea. I think that perfectly encapsulates these two. They’ve continued to stay in this forever dance together with neither knowing who truly is leading anymore. But, just like in their physical dance together in that scene, it doesn’t end up staying a “who is leading and who is following” dynamic anymore. Instead, they both decide to sway together—transforming their dance from being one who has a leader, to now both of them orbiting around the other.

Villanelle killing Rhiann
Let’s talk about the final kill which Villanelle did in this season. I think it’s very important moment in the show, because clearly shows what’ve Villanelle become. First of all, I think that Eve helped Villanelle A LOT to do this. Their slow dance gave Villanelle enough strenght. She was literally melting in Eve’s hands, she got Eve’s acceptance of Villanelle. She finally healed that wound between them which hurt her all this 6 months when she thought that Eve was dead. Eve accepted her, held her tightly and softly, supported her without words. Villanelle’s confession “I’ve killed so many people, Eve” -was accepted. Eve didn’t keep silence, she didn’t try to argue, didn’t judge her or start talking about her own mistakes. “I know” She really knows Villanelle and sees her. Real her. Did you see how hard it was for Villanelle to let Eve go when Rhiann showed up? She knew that Eve would be in danger near Rhiann. She repeatedly was telling her to go and promised to meet her after. She followed her with eyes I Eve was going away. Eve was concerned, buy listened to Villanelle and looked away several times. So, what does Villanelle do when Rhiann comes to her? She switches to Villanelle being unpredictable and playful. She dances with Rhiann to distract her from the fact that she was dancing with Eve. She makes her to think that she was dancing with different people and is ready to dance with her.  So, Eve charged her. She gave her confidence, acceptance, forgiveness. She became a person worth to fight for. Second, the way Villanelle has killed Rhiann. She was pressed by the wall at first (would old Villanelle allow that?). Then, when she realizes that the only way to get freedom, as she said to Eve, is to kill Rhiann and to kill her right now, she says “I’m sorry” This is not something killer would say. It’s desperate person who knows that he has to do something wrong but understands a need of it. She attacks Rhiann with all fury and hits her with all her power. She is fighting for live, for Eve, for freedom. She is fighting with old version of herself which she sees in Rhiann (perspective, young, violent, ambitious). But she can’t strangle her to death. She can’t kill in cold blood anymore. So she uses train. You can see how she struggles to do that, but does it anyway because she has to. Villanelle is sorry to do that but it was a need. You see? She killed not for a thrill or money or just like that but because it was a need. Eve killed because of a need too. So they met in halfway. “We are the same”

Killing Eve 3x08 thoughts
I didn’t have words after watching this episode. I was prepared for everything that could have happened. But this... this episode was the best episode of Killing Eve, which excellent summarized everything that happened between Villaneve before.
First I was surprised how close they became. We had almost a whole season of them being separated, 6 months in their timeline, but they only became closer, first of all, spiritually.
Villanelle and Eve went through a lot this season and season 1 and 2 as well. They started to change back in season 1, but their separation only gave them understanding and unbelievable development.
Villanelle with her hair down in front of Eve. I was waiting for this for so long! It meant that she was ready to open up to Eve. And she did. Eve right then understood that something happened. I think they will time to discuss everything in the future.
Let’s talk about the dance. I was picturing it for weeks and it was exactly how I imagined it!
Villanelle was fully vulnerable in front of Eve. Nothing like in season 1 or 2, not that smug asshole from 3x03 (that was one of the reasons why Eve attacked Villanelle - because after everything they have been through Villanelle acted like nothing happened and tried to look like Villanelle from season 1). Now it was real Villanelle. And that’s why they seemed to be so close this time. They’ve already been vulnerable in the end of season 2, but this time they are finally on the same level.
Eve knew that something happened and noticed how desperately Villanelle wanted to feel happiness while watching the couples dancing. So she did the best choice - offered Villanelle a dance. Am I surprised that it was Eve? Absolutely not, because if you look at their dynamic closely, you will notice that it is Eve who has always made first steps.
Just look at Villanelle’s face. That’s how I pictured it. Pain, hurt, relief and fragile happiness. She is relaxed, letting everything go, moving slowly with Eve while softly touching her shoulder.
Tumblr media
She is almost crying. She is overwhelmed and she knows that there is still one battle she has to fight. But she is so happy that she is not alone anymore, that someone is hugging her and holding her softly yet tight. And she is grateful to Eve for that.
They are finally closing their eyes and just giving in the moment. Total trust, softness, understanding. No anger, violence, madness.
Tumblr media
They both have changed and they both have noticed it. But their love - as I said - only grew more.
Villanelle’s first words in the ballroom after Eve asked her why they had to meet there were her confession in killing a man. She wanted Eve to know. Maybe she wanted to end this circle of murder right there. And while they are dancing Villanelle confesses to Eve again.
“I’ve killed so many people, Eve”
Her voice breaks. She just wanted to say it out load.
“I know”
There it is. Not a silence, no judging, just acceptance. Eve knows. And she still chooses Villanelle.
Tumblr media
This is genuine happiness on Villanelle’s face. The most important person in her life didn’t reject her no matter what. She accepted her, she acknowledged Villanelle’s sins. And she is choosing to dance with her and hug her while they are moving.
Tumblr media
Eve realizes that Villanelle is not the same anymore. She finally sees Oksana she was trying to reach for all this time. This fragile, vulnerable, complicated and broken person who wants a redemption.
She understands that they are the same.
How Villanelle is struggling to let Eve go after the dance because she sees Rhiann. She let her go because she wants Eve to be save. It was her battle, her fight for freedom.
Eve is concerned for Villanelle’s well-being when they meet in Paul’s house.
The softness. The care. Love.
They looked like a married couple. Talking quietly, sitting together, leaning towards each other.
And Villanelle running after Eve just like Eve was in the previous episode?
I think I will do another post about every moment of them.
What I can say, is that they are soulmates. There is a greatest love story for me. The love of hearts and souls. Understanding, accepting.
Villanelle finally knows what love is. Eve accepted Villanelle in her life and confessed that she sees her in the future.
“Its all about choices”
They finally chose each other. Their lives and fates are connected forever.

Hey!! What are your thoughts on the train scene? Personally I thought it was gut wrenching, seeing eve try to catch up with V only for her to give a little wave - I feel like V is losing interest, or else she would’ve stood up or gone to eve - something!! She just doesn’t seem to be pursuing eve as adamantly as before. What are your thoughts?
Hey!:) I think that train scene was a great one. The fact that Villanelle just waved and didn’t go to Eve doesn’t mean that she has lost interest in her:) It means that she finally decided to stop their chasing game (that’s what she means when saying “We have to stop running into each other like that”), she want them to stop and have a real meeting and conversation.
Villanelle has matured so much! She was really surprised and glad to see Eve, her sad look changed like some light (Eve) came through the darkness. She waved her to show that she saw her, that she was happy to see her. But she wants to have different relationship with Eve now. Not angry one, violent, spontaneous, but honest, true, like grown-up people. She stayed at the train because she finally knew that there wasn’t a need to go to Eve right back then. She knew that Eve finally made her choice and she chose Villanelle. And with a knowledge of that she stayed and waved her, because she knew that they would definitely meet again and very soon. But this time it would be different, and maybe even better

Just think about what Villanelle was feeling after seeing Eve... Joy, genuine hapiness, love, relief, all that mix of feelings... The one she loved the most loved her too. After thoughts that she was utterly alone Villanelle sees Eve. And there is light in her life. There is love. There is meaning. And she had funny, ridiculous, sincere smile on her face. Tears in her eyes caused by Eve’s gesture, who saved her soul, who lighten up Villanelle’s life again.  They are soulmates.
