from what i understand, a voxel is the 3 dimensional version of what a pixel is in 2 dimensions.
So, if a program broke apart into cubes, and the cubes are voxels, then you'd imagine that before they broke apart, the program would have been made up of pixels/voxels the size of those cubes
which could not be the case with Legacy programs? because they're like really high definition?
so... if you took them apart into the smallest building blocks of their render, those would probably be too small to see?
so in order for this

me, a tronblr who watched atla years ago but barely remembers it, and is 100% settled into imagining that I am a pattern recognition program hanging out in the Encom system, seeing stuff like this come up on my dash...

like... I get why it happens, and why it works for most people.

i hate when ppl act like the only reason to not like a "sad" ending is because you can't take it or whatever. personally as a tragedy enjoyer, i hate a poorly written ending. i hate an ending that is just kind of a bummer. i hate an ending that feels mean-spirited to the audience. i hate an ending that's redundant. i love a sad ending that is thematically consistent, poignant, and bespoke to the rest of its narrative.
#hated the ending of The Good Place#because i was struggling so hard at the time with the idea of mortality and the fact that all things end#and how it made me feel like nothing had a point and life was meaningless because everything was just gonna be over#and then to get slapped with the classic old theme that actually mortality is what makes life meaningful#and that the whole problem of people in an eternal paradise losing all sense of purpose was solved by giving them the option of suicide#was so very counter to absolutely everything i was personally experiencing at the time#it made me feel 100x more hopeless and meaningless on every level

Hahaha look at me drawing a full-on fanart comic of Kesomon's story "Overcharged" about computer people made of computing livin' and lovin' inside a computer and I'm using ink pens and colored pencils and paper and hand-lettering and making it look like these dudes are fairies in the bottom of a garden or something

reminds me of my headcanon that if Michael Burnham from Discovery met Black Panther, he would likely not consider her to have a "boy's name" (since Michael is probably not a common name in Wakanda) but, having been raised on Vulcan, she would absolutely view "T'Challa" as a girl's name

I have a personal headcanon that Flynn's denomination of User-ism has been heavily infused with elements of both buddhism and taoism. Along with that whole monotheistic spin.
Yeah, seems to fit very well with how he acts in Legacy.

Well there is one problem: Aside from Flynn's denomination, User-ism is demonstrably shown to be a polytheistic faith which Jewdism is a decidedly a monotheistic religion.
yeah I mean-- honestly, User religion is so unlike any actual human religion that I'm impressed to even see it in fiction. Like it borrows from a lot of polytheistic lore but some details are just unique. Gods who created people, but each of them created different people? (I mean, as an extension of the idea "what if programs worshipped their programmers" it is kinda obvious, but WOW it is some alien worldbuilding.)
And I really have no idea how programs' faith would change, once they learned more about the Users, and the faiths that Users have.
Like, what would you do if you were a polytheistic believer, and then you found out your gods existed and they also believed in other gods further up the hierarchy? --and some of them only believed in one, some in multiple, some none, and their beliefs all conflicted?
I guess you'd continue believing in your multiple gods (since they just proved their existence) ...but then you'd also have to decide which Higher Gods you believed in. And since those Higher Gods won't prove their existence, who do you even listen to?
Do you keep treating your favorite god's word like the Word of God? Or have you now lost whatever made you consider them gods in the first place? Finding out they're messy and complex and fight with each other over which totally unproven higher gods to worship?
Maybe Ram does go fully from User-belief to Judaism, and starts thinking of Roy as more a friend or family member. I'd understand that.

so since Passover is these past few days, I got thinking about holidays again
back around Chanukah I did that sketch of Ram and Roy and the 8-bit menorah which was an idea that just jumped very easily into my pattern-recognition-program head
because, aside from feeling like it's probably reasonable to guess (based on name) that Roy Kleinberg is Jewish, and that Ram, being a devout User-Believer, would happily follow his User's beliefs as soon as he found out about them
...apart from that, Chanukah is a holiday that I just sorta intuitively felt would appeal to programs
(miracle about extra-long-lasting energy source? yay!... plus the significance of the number 8 in programming)
but, as an atheist from a sorta-Catholic family (albeit they were quite secular and very knowledgeable and willing to teach me about other faiths, which I'm grateful for)... I'm curious if Jewish Tronblr has ideas about Passover? because nothing immediately occurs to me, plus I don't wanna overstep boundaries and I know Passover is a more important holiday than Chanukah with different themes
anyway i'm rambling, but I hope Ram and Roy have a good Passover, whatever they end up doing <3
