roy mustang is one of those characters that improves the more you watch, because at the beginning you see him and think he’s an idiot and a dick, and then you watch a little more and you think he’s not quite an idiot but he is a dick, and then you watch further and you realize that he’s not an idiot at all and he is in fact a very kind person, and then you keep watching and it turns out that even if he’s selfless he’s still a dick, and then you watch some more and you realize that he’s an immensely guilty and complicated man who understands how unforgivable his actions were and acknowledges the necessity of moving forward and trying to fix things but his version of trying to fix things involves outright treason and a coup, and then you get to the very end of the series and it turns out whatever moral compass he has is hard won and partially outsourced and he’s always struggling against his grief and anger and his incredible cleverness is both a weakness and a strength but his real power is his bonds with others, and then you rewatch and you realize that he really is an idiot and a dick

Stop saying shit like "United States of Israel". The idea that Israel is controlling the US/western politics is ridiculous and actively harmful. The US is a fully autonomous player allying with & funding genocide for it's own benefit; Israel & its military power in the Middle East is a useful extension of US empire first and foremost.
This rhetoric that US politics have somehow been co-opted by a foreign government does not only obfuscate the US's actual positioning as the most dominant colonial power in the world that literally has free reign to do whatever it wants in global politics, but also veers into "jews secretly control everything" anti-semitic conspiracy. Fuck the state of Israel. But also, the US's involvement here is not some kind of corruption of the American system. It is exactly what America is and has always been, don't get it twisted.

The Gaza Strip amounts to slightly more than 2 percent of the landmass of Palestine. This small detail is never mentioned whenever the Strip is in the news, nor was it mentioned in the Western media coverage of the dramatic events in Gaza in the summer of 2014.
Before the Zionization of Palestine in 1948, Gaza’s history was not unique or different from the rest of Palestine, and it had always been connected administratively and politically to the rest of the country. As one of Palestine’s principal land and sea gates to the world, it tended to develop a more flexible and cosmopolitan way of life, not dissimilar to other gateway societies in the Eastern Mediterranean in the modern era. Its location on the coast and on the Via Maris from Egypt up to Lebanon brought with it prosperity and stability—until this was disrupted and nearly destroyed by the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948.
The Strip was created in the last days of the 1948 war. It was a zone into which the Israeli forces pushed hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from the city of Jaffa and its southern regions down into the town of Bir-Saba (Beersheba of today). Others were expelled to the zone from towns such as Majdal (Ashkelon) as late as 1950, in the final phases of the ethnic cleansing. Thus, a small pastoral part of Palestine became the biggest refugee camp on earth. It still like this today. On the eve of the Israeli occupation in 1967, the catastrophic nature of this enforced demographic transformation was evident. Within two decades this once pastoral coastal part of southern Palestine became one of the world’s most densely inhabited areas, without the economic and occupational infrastructure to support it.

"Israelis know their war crimes are indefensible, so the only option left for them is to try and convince the world that Palestinians are lying about their dead. It’s disgusting and should usually be ignored outright, but sometimes it’s important to see how low they will go."
For those who cannot see the images, click to read the full twitter thread here. And the referenced article about the Israeli diplomat Ofir Gendelman using a clip from a Lebanse short movie to try and claim Palestinians are faking their injuries...

"On July 26, 2014, the nineteenth day of Israel’s 2014 summer assault on Gaza, I saw a large group of Israelis on the news marching in the streets of Tel Aviv waving Israeli flags, encouraging their state to continue its bombardment of Gaza while chanting in celebration: In Gaza there’s no studying No children are left there, There’s no school tomorrow, There’s no children left in Gaza! Oleh! Gaza is a graveyard. Calls for the killing of Palestinian children, the destruction of their schools, and the transformation of their home, the Gaza Strip, into a graveyard are not confined to the chanting of angry rightwing nationalist mobs, as some might argue in an effort to dismiss the acute danger of such spectacles and the messages that are implicit or explicit in such displays. High-ranking Israeli officials and policymakers also speak this language of the mob. In July 2014, Israeli lawmaker and justice minister Ayelet Shaked posted the text of an article by Uri Elitzur, the late Israeli journalist and advisor to Benjamin Netanyahu, referring to Palestinian children as little snakes: 'They should go, as should the physical homes in which they raised the snakes. Otherwise, more little snakes will be raised there.' In calling for the genocide of the Palestinians while simultaneously animalizing their children, the justice minister’s rhetoric goes hand in hand with that of the mob – there shall be no schooling in Gaza because no children must remain there. ... Keeping Palestinians living as dogs, as [Moshe] Dayan stated, or labelling them 'little snakes,' as Shaked did, are acts rooted in the violent formation of the settler-colonial state. This language presents a classic case of blaming the victim. It animalizes the Other in order to normalize and decriminalize genocidal acts against them. ... Inside Gaza, an unending process of displacement and dismemberment is the way of life, amounting to an ongoing genocide." Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian, Incarcerated Childhood and the Politics of Unchilding (2019)
