On 10th April we’ll watch one episode from the ’Granada Holmes’ Adventures TV series & a Documentary. These were produced by the British tv company Granada in 1984 and starred Jeremy Brett and David Burke.

A Brief Explanation of Location in OFMD
So speaking with fellow fans who are not from North America, I realize there is some misunderstanding occuring about where these characters would be going, and the time and distance it would take. Like of course the dinghys being able to magically pinpoint any location is comedy, but the jokes about them being able to go across ‘the whole ocean’ stems in not knowing where these pirates set up shop.
The pirates of this show are working primarily on the Caribbean Sea, and Blackbeard irl only having gone as far north as Virginia. The stuck to the Caribbean as it was a center of trade among the multiple empires colonizing the Americas.
Stede is from Barbados, and returns to the island at the end of episode 9, notice how close it is to the tip of Florida. This area in itself was the prime realestate of pirates.
St. Augustine is not an island! The red dot on Florida is St. Augustine, it is one of the oldest cities in Florida, having been a Spanish Colony. Jim is a Floridian! And so the stretches of space going from Florida into more open sea and ocean, or stopping in The Bahamas to get supplies- its a small area.
Nassau was the irl ‘Pirate Kingdom’ founded in part by Ben Hornigold, and was the start of many pirates such as Blackbeard. It was the base of operations, because many ships would follow trade routes going through or around the island. Giving space for them to regroup and still go out to capture.
In Conclusion, the time for the characters to travel fits very easily in actual movements in the period. Ships of various empires move across the water in predictable routes, and the pirates who were working primarily in the Caribbean took advantage of it. They aren’t crossing oceans, and the ‘ocean in ofdm is a puddle’, its that they are travelling in the Caribbean sea which is a relatively small area.

Stop. I'm tearing up again. Yes, it was beautiful and my heart was not expecting this. So beautiful.
I fucking love how Our Flag Means death has explicit, unabashed queer romance and character but ALSO has wall-to-wall metaphors and symbolism. We can have the kiss but we can ALSO read into the colors of wardrobes and whether a character wears gloves or not. We can read into the metaphor of Stede’s secret closet and letting Ed in, and ALSO have a fully fleshed-out storyline about a gay man in a loveless marriage telling his wife “his name is Ed.” We have the red silk scene in the moonlight, of gently handling a bit of cloth to represent a heart, and we have “what makes Ed happy is…you.”
We get all the subtle details of brief touches and meaningful glances, but not instead of explicit queerness—it’s that the unabashedly queer characters and story deserve that level of build-up and poetry.

So, about that interview... Moftiss are saying that they would do more Sherlock stories, now, that they have ideas and could start writing tomorrow if it wasn't for Ben's and Martin's schedules. Hmm, but can I be happy that they're talking about it? Maybe they're starting to prepare us for the big news? They've already talked with the actors and know when they can film? I just want Sherlock back. Especially now. I know they planned 5 seasons and we would be desperate for S5, but I'm really ready for this hiatus to end. In the meantime, I'll re-read your TFP meta ; )
