Welcome to a world of beauty, charm, and delicate craftsmanship. A world where every thread is precious, and every stitch is a work of art. This is the world of antique sewing sets, where beauty meets utility, and history blends with art.
Among the treasures of this enchanting world is a silver sewing etui set, crafted in 1840 by the master silversmith Joseph Taylor. A piece of art that embodies the elegance and refinement of the Victorian era, and the skill and dedication of one of the most renowned artisans of his time.
The set includes a folding blade knife with floral silver scales, a pair of scissors with fancy silver arms and oval loops, a stiletto with a bird's head and vine-shaped silver handle, a fish-shaped bodkin, and a thimble, all housed in a leather case with a plush velvet interior.
Each piece in this set is a masterpiece in its own right, adorned with intricate designs and expertly crafted details. The floral patterns on the knife scales are reminiscent of a garden in full bloom, while the bird's head on the stiletto adds a touch of whimsy and playfulness.
The set is not only a work of art but also a reflection of the social status and taste of its owner. In the 1840s, etuis were a popular accessory for ladies who were expected to be proficient in needlework. Made of precious materials such as solid silver and gold, they were often decorated with elaborate designs as a sign of their owner's wealth and refinement.
Joseph Taylor was a master silversmith known for his exceptional skill and attention to detail. His work was highly sought after and remains prized by collectors today. Owning a piece of his work is not only a privilege but also a tribute to the artistry and ingenuity of a bygone era.
This silver sewing etui set is in good condition, with minor wear and signs of ageing on the implements that are commensurate with the time. The thimble and bodkin are associated. It comes with provenance from a private collector and similar sewing kits have been featured in literature, including the "Sewing Tools and Trinkets: Collector's Identification & Value Guide" by Helen Lester Thompson and "George IV: Art & Spectacle" by Kate Heard. Etui’s are also housed in museums such as the Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum.

An Antique Singing Bird Box a true work of art with intricate craftsmanship and beautiful melodies. If you're a collector of rare and exquisite mechanical marvels, then the singing bird box is undoubtedly a must-have for your collection. This unique piece of art has been enchanting collectors for nearly two centuries and continues to do so to this day. As far as we know, only one of these remarkable devices exists, making it an incredibly rare find indeed. Crafted by the legendary Swiss craftsman Charles Bruguier, this particular singing bird box is a masterpiece of artistry and technology. The delicate flower petals and nature motifs are offset by vibrant colors, while the miniaturized bird with an ivory beak and natural feathers is a marvel of engineering. When wound, the front slide opens the bird lid and activates the movement and song of the finely crafted mechanical device. The detailing of the machinery is remarkable, while the pastoral scene adds a sense of old-world charm to any collection. It's no wonder that these highly sought-after pieces of art were a favorite of nobles and royalty alike during the 19th Century. Bruguier was a true master of his craft, and he only crafted 27 singing bird boxes a year from his small studio. While we cannot verify the origin of this particular piece, the matching artwork, and incredible technology speak to the master himself, or at least a loyal acolyte. The condition of this singing bird box is exceptional, considering the rarity of the item. The decoration inlaid in gold and silver pique work of different colors and mother-of-pearl is quite exceptional on this kind of cabinet, making this richly decorated singing-bird box quite unusual and very attractive. When the mechanism of this singing-bird box is activated, the oval lid opens automatically, and the bird appears, pivoting from side to side, flapping its wings, moving its tail, opening and closing its beak. When it stops singing, after its performance, it falls backward and goes through the grille. The movement is most likely a Going Barrell Movement, and the automata is working well, with only a tiny missing piece at the bottom of the box. If you're a collector of rare and exquisite mechanical devices, this singing bird box is a must-have. References in literature and museums that feature similar pieces only add to the allure of this singing bird box, making it a rare gem that any collector would be proud to own. Stunning jardinière! Handcrafted in the 19th Century and boasting an intricate design.
Are you looking for a decorative piece that is both elegant and historically significant? Look no further than this Hand-painted fine porcelain china Pink Jardiniere Planter with Handle. This stunning piece of fine porcelain china was originally sold at auction as part of a pair from the estate of Ringo Starr and Barabara Bach in 1995. Its hand-painted floral design is laced with pink tones and gold gilt, making it a unique and truly special decorative item. Jardinières date back to the 19th Century, when they were used by Victorian ladies as a means of covert communication. The “Language of Flowers” bloomed alongside a growing interest in botany, and potteries responded with an abundance of fashionable ceramic vessels for use in gardens and conservatories. In elegant homes, ornamental flowerpots and plant stands were called jardinières for the French word for a female gardener. This particular jardinière is a perfect example of the style and elegance of the time. Its nicely scalloped shape highlights its hand-painted gold gilt trim botanicals of cream and pink rose hues. At 6 inches tall and 7.9 inches wide, it's an impressive size with double handles, which could also be used as a centrepiece, or with champagne flutes nestled in ice or a lovely planter for your favourite orchids. Not only is this jardinière a beautiful decorative item, but it also has a rich history. It was sold by Julien's Auctions House, California, in 1995 as part of the “PROPERTY FROM THE COLLECTION OF RINGO STARR AND BARBARA BACH” sale. Later, it was sold by Brights of Nettlebed, one of the longest-established classic furniture specialists in the United Kingdom, with showrooms in Oxfordshire and London. The jardinière is in excellent condition, with its vibrant colours intact and no chips. Its 10-inch upper rim diameter and 27-inch circumference make it a substantial piece that will add sophistication and style to any room. So, if you're looking for a unique and beautiful decorative item, look no further than this Hand-painted fine porcelain china Pink Jardiniere Planter with Handle.
