Things that are making fandom toxic
(And things Iāve never experienced before when I was growing up in fandom).
Calling shippers abuse apologists, rape apologists, racist, sexist, homophobic, ableist, pedophiles, whatever, for what they read, write, draw, headcanon, or ship in fandom. Thinking that shippers condone wrong actions in their consumption of fandom.
Anti culture. Suicide baiting, sending gore/cp to shippers, intentionally triggering and misgendering shippers, sending anon hate, āgo chokeā, āugliesā, erasing lgbt+ fansā sexuality and gender by calling them cishet whenever you disagree with them or ship something they donāt like, minors in nsfw spaces by talking about them.
Taking radfem rhetoric and applying it to fandom spaces and turning around and saying youāre not a radfem (being ākink critical / anti-kinkā).
American-centrism that dominates fandom. Believing that American laws are the āone true wayā even though fandom is comprised of people of every background. (example: believing that you can only ship 18+ year olds sexually even though there are people who come from countries where the age of consent is lower and age gaps are common).
Thinking shipping only applies to healthy relationships or if someone ships something they want the ship to become canon.
Thinking that people who relate to or root for the villain are condoning the villainās actions and are probably abusers themselves.
Demanding adults leave fandom or change how they approach fandom even though adults comprise most of fandom and basically are the creators and parents of fandom (example: not interacting with minors, adding their ages onto their profiles to ākeep minors safeā, and stop drawing nsfw fanart of underaged characters or media aimed at minors).
Thinking that minors run fandom even though adults comprise the majority of fandom. Thinking that minors deserve a safe space free of kink on tumblr even though tumblr isnāt a space for children. However, spaces for children should be sfw but tumblr is not one of those spaces.
Demanding that fandom should be a safespace (mainly for minors, gay men, and survivors).
Demanding that everyone should include social justice and morality into their fandom experience. (Everyone does not share the same beliefs nor morals).
Thought crimes. The belief that thinking about something bad is the equivalent of the action (example: having an abuse kink makes you an abuse apologist, and if youāre a woman you are contributing to your own oppression).
Callout culture.
Conflating fiction with reality.
Conflating indulgent fanfiction, media, porn, whatever, to representation. Indulgent fanfiction, media, porn is and was never meant to be representation and therefore should does not have to be accurate.
Identity politics. Demanding that the main subject of said fanfiction, media, whatever, should only be enjoyed by the audience who happen to be the main subject (example: Yaoi should only be enjoyed by gay men because Yaoi is about mxm even though Yaoi was created by women for women while Bara, a genre similar to Yaoi except includes more muscular men, was created by mxm for mxm).
Thinking that women are ruining fandom with their ānasty kinksā even though men and mxm can be just as nasty and kinky (not a bad thing). Calling these women ācishetā even though theyāre part of the lgbt+ community.
Attacking cosplayers of characters you donāt like.
Calling fandoms such as Hetalia and Attack on Titan 'Nazi propagandaā and those who enjoy these shows as Nazi sympathizers or anti-Semitics.
Tagging ship or character hate in the ship or character tag even though you have an anti tag for that. Fandom is supposed to be fun and no one wants to go into their ship or favorite character tag and see that negative shit.
Less fandom-y:
Anti-kinksters. Conflating bdsm with abuse. Conflating cgl/ddlg with pedophilia.
The anti-recovery movement. Shaming neurotypicals, some who might even be recovered neurodivergents.
Feel free to add more. Antis will be blocked.

ā you have something in your hairā¦ do you want me to get it out? ā
ā you can call me whenever you want, even if you donāt have a reason to. ā
ā iām bad at texting first, so i always end up hoping you will. ā
ā no, itās fine. i can wait until youāre done talking to them. ā
ā you look really cute in that. ā
ā god, you always make me blush. ā
ā first time i saw you, i couldnāt get over how gorgeous you were. ā
ā i wanted to say i love you for the first time without stuttering, but that failed. ā
ā could you hold my hand? ā
ā my friends get so annoyed by how much i talk about you. ā
ā wanna, like ā i mean, if youāre not busy, we could get lunch? ā
ā you look so comfy and cuddle-able. ā
ā youāre hiding under the blanket because youāre blushing? ā
ā donāt give me that puppy dog face. how am i supposed to say no to that? ā
ā letās share my coat so you wonāt be cold. ā
ā you make me so happy. ā
ā would you mind if i kissed you? ā
ā i know iāve kissed you, like, a dozen times, but just a few more, please? ā
ā youāre the perfect height for me to rest my chin on your head. ā
ā would it be too cliche if i asked you on a date? ā
ā quit smiling. i canāt talk when you look at me like that. ā
ā i remember practicing how to ask you out in the mirror. ā
ā huh? oh, sorry. i was just watching you. ā
ā youāre the perfect height for me to rest my chin on your head. ā
ā i wouldāve been up sooner, but you were sleeping on my arm. ā
