Well, for that, i wanted to make that the whole point, humans wanting to create things they could before, they don't care about being more connected with the world around them, they just want that "power" and control back.
But, there are people who are supposed to be opposite of those ones.
That's where my main character comes to the story. By being in a family of almost "perfect" humans, he was born green, that mutated state they tried to run from all those years ago. The story started hundreds of years ago, but we follow it through this guys eyes, finding out secrets that are kept from the public and whole world. Why they want to become like those ancestors, who controls this "breeding" process and all. And it all comes down to those who are in power.

The story is supposed to be about post-apocalyptic time, where the nuclear attacks destroyed almost every life on Earth, but by some miracle, humans evolved into plant-like creatures (they still had some human anatomy, they just became green and had leafs for hair).
Because of the drastic change, "humans" couldn't create anything that they were making before (plastic and some other things) because it also affected their health. So they needed to be human as quick as possible to continue doing what they did before.
And what they do? They begin by evolving into types of flowers and other plants, by doing so a lot of them, with generations of course, started getting some human things, skin, hair, but some go deeper into plant-like state, making problems for those who want to escape that.
Sorry for writing so much, i just had a lot of these things in my heads for a long time.

SPOILERS FOR SHADOW AND BONE BOOKS
"When female character loses their powers and becomes a motherly figure at the end of the book" being all irritated and they hold Shadow and Bone trilogy????
Have we read the same books? Same stories? Alina WASN'T READY for anything that came with those powers. Because of those powers, she almost lost her childhood best friend, was manipulated TWO TIMES (Darkling and that saint-unwashed maniac), lost her mentor, trust she had for those close around her AND MORE.
Even when she tried to hold that big responsibility, everything fell apart. Of course she loved having powers, because people around her shown her and told her that that's all she is! That's not something that can go unsaid!
At the end of the day, i am happy with the bittersweet ending. Her finally having a somewhat peaceful life with the man she loves and helping children ( like they were) live better than they lived, all while both of them reaching out sometimes for good and bad times that were taken from them.
