This page will be filled with things that make me happy. Or curious. Or at the very least stuff that's interesting. This may include yarn, Ninja Turtles, math, and who knows what else.
One of my treasures is a baby blanket my great-aunt knitted for me. It’s actually kind of ugly - late 70’s/early 80’s indestructible acrylic in orange, gray, and yellow. But my mother wrapped me in it when she brought me home from the hospital. I have pictures and everything.
Last year I got to knit a blanket for my great-niece, and her mother wrapped her in it to bring her home from the hospital. I hope she still loves it forty years from now.
When I was a kid, I had a shawl.
I don’t remember where I got it, or even exactly when. I’m not sure I had it in elementary school, but definitely by middle school. It was very simple, a white triangle shawl done in granny square style and basic acrylic yarn, and I felt so . ⋆ ★ ✨fancy✨ ★⋆. whenever I got to wear it. Any really special occasion I wanted to have it on, and to twirl and swirl, living out my Stevie Nicks dreams long before I had any idea who she was.
I don’t know where the shawl is now, and I don’t remember when and how it left my life, but I remember how it made me feel. I think that is part of why I make so many pretty shawls, and frequently sell them for far less than they are worth.
This weekend I sat down to reattempt, after uncountable failures which are shocking considering how simple a pattern it was, to recreate that pattern. Stitch for stitch this still isn’t exactly correct, but it has the color, size, shape, and feel.
