Thanks. I hope it all winds up being a bust. Outside of my weeb obsessions, I’m very weather obsessed.

I’ve lived in Oklahoma my entire life and have been both terrified and fascinated by severe weather. I almost took the path of going to OU to study meteorology, but I was too intimidated by the math/chemistry/physics I’d have to do. Instead I just watch a lot of tornado history, documentaries, storm chasers, live broadcasts, etc and learn that way.

So if you see me yelling about severe storms and tornadoes on my feed from time to time, that’s why.

The 1997 Jarrell tornado did not destroy the town. It wiped out the Double Creek Estates subdivision. This tornado was unique because the speed at which it was moving was next to nothing. So it just sat over the Estates and ground the entire area to bits.

Still, easily one of the most haunting tornadoes to ever exist. That along with seeing the genesis of the 2011 Joplin tornado.

Bridge-Creek Moore, OK 1999 - F5 with the highest recorded windspeeds on earth

El Reno, OK 2013 - While initially rated EF5 (now EF3 due to lack of damage to structures (thankfully) - This is the largest tornado ever recorded at 2.6 miles in circumference. This tornado killed the Twistex team, some of the most experienced storm chasers in the field.

Newcastle-Moore, OK 2013 - Last recorded EF5 as of this post (this may change with the current tornadic event unfolding in Nebraska right now wild enough, lord knows what tomorrow (4/27/24) will bring).

Xenia, OH 1974 - Ted Fujita almost rated this tornado an F6 but decided F5 was to remain the top of the chart with damage being inconceivable.

1925 Tri-State F5 - Deadliest and longest tracked tornado in US history

it’s a multi-vortex tornado. i dont remember the tribe it originates from (i think it was cherokee), but there’s a native american legend…? saying? that goes “if you see a man in a tornado, you are about to die.”

the most infamous shot of a dead man walking tornado hit jarrell, texas in 1997

it did so much damage to the town it caused the scale that tornados are measured by, the fijita scale, undergo revisions, and it made anchoring buildings in the tornado alley region pretty much mandatory. (it took the entire town off the map. only those who had taken shelter outside of the town or in underground bunkers survived.)

two more examples of dead man walking tornadoes looking like a person are a tornado from 2011 that hit cullman, alabama

and a tornado from 1975 that hit xenia, ohio

Thanks anon. I have a date set that I’ll try keep posting to then re-assess.

I know there’s one or two people out there who feel the same, but even then it still feels as lonely as being on a small island surrounded by a never ending ocean… And not solely because of MHA content. It’s a symptom rather than the core of my own problem that I’ll never find a cure for outside of self isolation. It’s the only way I can manage it. Else I risk burdening or annoying others more than I already do.
