angry ex-swmrs fans: wow billie joe is a piece of shit for not airing out his family business to millions of people about how his son, who he raised and loved, groomed a teen girl
billie joe, 1998: yeah a lot of people have pushed me into sexual situations after i’ve said no. it’s felt invasive
it’s obvious people don’t actually care about lydia knight and just want to blame this on someone so they don’t have to put responsibility onto the rest of swmrs like cole, seb or max lol. like bisexual men are 50% likely to have suffered childhood sexual abuse and 67% likely to have suffered assault as an adult and 83% of these assaults have been committed by other men. and that’s just what’s been reported.
you honestly don’t think that billie joe armstrong, bisexual icon who’s had people kiss and grope him without his consent on stage/while being filmed hasn’t experienced some sort of sexual assault of his own? like if that’s what happens in broad view, you don’t think worse has happened behind closed doors? you don’t think he has tried his very best to teach consent to his children and he’s shocked and horrified and trying his best to cope that his son is a piece of shit regardless of getting everything he’s ever wanted in life? he’s called joey his baby well into joey’s 20’s, he’s tried to give everything he can to him so he can have the life he never had growing up, and his son has turned out to be one of the very types of people that he’s worked to avoid.
he doesn’t owe it to anyone to explain his grief and disappointment or whatever he’s feeling about the situation, because honestly? it’s none of our business. lydia isn’t asking for billie to say anything, so this call for him to speak isn’t for her lol. like these people do not exist in the real world if they don’t think a father like billie joe would have deeply complicated feeling about this whole situation
how unbelievably selfish and un-empathetic lol

Mental health is a more prevalent theme in music these days, but back when Green Day were starting out and writing songs about your own anxiety, did you ever have any internal battles about not putting that side of yourself out there?
“I feel like I started going through a mid-life crisis when I was 20 (laughs), because I didn’t think I was gonna live that long! It’s something that’s always been in my head. Whether it’s people dealing with PTSD or… like, everybody’s got a part of their brain that is neurotic, or maybe even paranoid, or bi-polar, or they have a personality disorder. The punk rock scene, for me, was a scene of all these people with personality disorders coming together a lot of the time. And I didn’t really realise that until later on. If you’re into punk and hard rock, it kinda mellows people out. In a way, it’s the antidote for really troubled people. And I think that maybe Green Day is kind of the same way: I sing about a lot of anguish and despair – but I try to do it in a funny way. And I think that’s maybe what’s relatable about it… I don’t know. It’s just being real.”
Speaking of being real, are there any misconceptions out there about Billie Joe Armstrong that really bother you?
“Hmm. Misconceptions? I kind of revel in the misconceptions about me! I don’t know. I’m not sure. I feel on the spot and you’re making me crazy right now (laughs). I feel like everybody gets it wrong, in a lot of ways. It’s like they say, ‘Oh, you’re this punk!’ And I’m like, ‘No I’m not.’ Or, ‘Oh, you’re a popstar!’ And I’m like, ‘No, I am not.’ Or, ‘Oh, you’re St. Jimmy.’ ‘No I’m not!’ So then it’s, ‘You’re not St. Jimmy!’ ‘Yes I am!’ I don’t know, I just think I’m a little bit of everything.”

billie joe armstrong is someone who, for all intents and purposes, seemed like he would have fallen through the cracks of society because of the circumstances he was born into........
growing up poor, struggling with sexual orientation, not having a father growing up because of a traumatic death, being mentally ill, not living up to standard expectations of gender/masculinity, being homeless and squatting in a warehouse, being an alcoholic.........and despite all that................he is now a living legend
