This year, my daughter @k_liltank had the idea of making very special baskets for the front line workers that bring us our mail, packages, pick up our garbage and recycling and so much more. We have given them out to our @ups @uspostalservice and @fedex drivers who were blown away. If they do what they do everyday, a little basket to keep them safe and warm is the least we can do. #Repost @itsjasonflom (@get_repost) ・・・ ‼️BREAKING NEWS‼️ @innocenceproject client Termaine “Maine” Hicks was just officially exonerated after 19 years in prison!!! Philadelphia police shot Termaine three times in the back, and then planted a gun on him, lied about the shooting (falsely claiming he had a weapon) and then prosecuted him for the attack of a woman who Termaine had actually come to the aid of when she was being assaulted in the street. Police realized that Termaine did not match the description of the attacker provided to 911 by a neighbor, and was unarmed. Rather than acknowledging what happened, officers launched a cover-up: falsely testifying that when they got to the scene they saw Termaine attacking the victim and that they shot him because he pulled a gun from his pocket and pointed it at them.   Based on the presence of a partial male profile from the victim’s clothing, a motion for a new trial was filed based on DNA and new forensic evidence regarding the shooting and the directionality of the bullets.    Over the past two years the @innocenceproject team have engaged in further investigation, legal maneuvering to escape a hostile judge, and focused on a deep dive into the officers involved.   Yesterday, Termaine’s conviction was overturned based on the finding that three officers lied under oath at his trial about the shooting and the recovery of the gun. The judge acknowledged that police had gotten the wrong person and the enormity of what had been done to Termaine.  Because of COVID, it was all on zoom and Termaine was not in court. He expressed feeling proud of himself for continually asserting his innocence before the parole board in 2015 even th he knew it meant he would do all of his time, and he talked about Jacob Blake and all of the other people who didn’t make it, and being thankful that he could walk out of prison, and that he made it home. Termaine, you have all of my respect 🙌🏽 https://www.instagram.com/p/CI6zcgWHYW_/?igshid=1nuy9uee8cmep

2 days before Thanksgiving I was able 2 tell a client, "Enjoy Thanksgiving, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hannukah & New Years," because I was able 2 get his sentencing postponed till 2021. It was a good feeling knowing he was free, with family and friends and Covid19 free. @metcalflawnyc (at Rockland County, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CIKeGi6nAa-/?igshid=3yo21656vuoj

#Repost @itsjasonflom (@get_repost) ・・・ Just stop.⁣ ⁣ Stop thinking this is just like the flu, it isn’t . ⁣ Stop telling me the survival rate so it’s not a big deal, it is a big deal.⁣ ⁣ Stop saying healthcare workers signed up for this, we didn’t. Stop ignoring science based recommendations of masking, social distancing, hand hygiene, and not gathering in large crowds, they work.⁣ ⁣ Stop thinking that only unhealthy people with preexisting medical conditions or elderly people are the ones dying, they aren’t the only ones.⁣ Stop being confident that if you get sick from anything, the resources to save you will be readily available, that may not be in this stage of the pandemic.⁣ ⁣ Stop believing hospitals aren’t being overrun because of the massive influx of Covid patients at this moment, they are. ⁣ ⁣ Stop believing that doctors are profiting from this pandemic, they aren’t. Stop politicizing this virus, it’s a public health CRISIS. ⁣ ⁣ Below is me after spending 5 hours inside a Covid positive ICU room working to save a patient.  In this moment, I felt defeated because I already knew what the outcome.⁣ ⁣ The inability to save a patient despite doing everything you can is mentally exhausting. Now imagine doing that on repeat for 8 months and counting. ⁣ ⁣ Imagine being the nurse crying with your patient when they realize that everything we’re doing to help them STILL may not be enough and death is a real possibility.⁣ ⁣ Imagine being the nurse or doctor holding that same patient’s hand and stroking their head weeks later while their ventilator is removed because they haven’t improved and their family then says goodbyes and I love yous over FaceTime while they take their last breath.⁣ ⁣ Now PLEASE IMAGINE BEING THE COVID ICU PATIENT. The breathlessness, pain, fear, loneliness, isolation, anxiety, hopelessness, and sadness. The need to use all your energy just to breathe.  The true realization you may not get better and facing your own mortality. ⁣ ⁣ Please do not discount all the lives lost or affected by this pandemic any longer.  We need to come together as a country, NOW.
