To My Dear and Loving...
An aromantic poem I wrote for my English class.

To my dear and loving
People are saying
Loving husbands, loving wives
Loving parents, loving lives
Tales of history
Never a mystery
My Romeo, my Juliet
It’s always love they’re out to get
“Love, the greatest tale of humanity”
Forgive me if I disagree
“Love is what makes us human”
In that case, I think I’ll be leavin’
I do not like romance
But I think I’ll take a chance
Describing what I feel
The closest I can get to society’s ideal
I’d rather not date
And it’s not because I hate
But I’d rather be friends
As no one recommends
Still a life partner
Though I feel it’s not smarter
Than conforming to society
But that wouldn’t be me
Thinking this through
I’m feeling kind of blue
This isn’t the normal
But that would feel too formal
So I will love platonically
Though society may not like me
And to whoever this turns out to be
I can’t love you, but we can be free
Together
